The GB Junior Open training squad will be competing in the Open Tour events this season. Players are asked to represent their club team if they are playing top 16 Ultimate - A Tour - and to represent GB Junior Open if they aren't. This is to ensure each player is reaching the best level available to the, in terms of competition or pitch time.

Following the selection of the final 21 players for WUGC2008, training will take place roughly once a month before the tournament following the Open Tour season. More information to follow when it is available.

GB Junior Women

The British Junior Women's squad is home to the brightest stars of junior women's ultimate frisbee.

This season, we will be selecting teams in two age divisions:

• U17 (Born in 1992 or later)
• U19 (Born in 1989 or later)

A message of condolence.

Emily Harrison (August 1991 to October 2007)

The British Junior Women wish to express sincere condolences to the family and friends of Emily Harrison following her unexpected and tragic death. Emily had been a member of Arctic Ultimate in Sutton Coldfield since the clubs inception in 2005, and had trained with the GB junior women last season. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as somebody who made the most of the opportunities she had.

Organisation

The British Junior Women’s squads are managed and coached by a team of trained and dedicated volunteers.

We’d like to say a BIG thanks to everybody who puts time and effort into making junior women’s ultimate a success in Britain. Thanks to the coaches, teachers and parents who give up their time for the players.

Cath Moore...

Cath founded the first junior womens team back in 2003 and has now gone on to win her own medals playing for the GB mixed team this summer.

Kev has supported the junior divisions through their infancy for over ten years, and continues to offer us guidance and support as we grow from strength to strength.

Coaching Team

Meet the Management:

	Gemma Taylor (Squad Manager, Coach and U17 Manager) Gemma is the British Junior Women's Squad Manager and a UKUA qualified coach. She is currently representing British frisbee at senior level playing for the GB Women, as well as playing / coaching for her local midlands team (Mu). 	James Hall (Head Coach, Manager of U19 1st Team) James is the British Junior Women's Head Coach. He has been coaching junior sports for 9 years and this is his second year leading the GB Junior womens efforts. James is a qualified coach in a number of sports including Badminton, Basketball, Trampolining and Tennis. He currently plays for his local side in Leeds. 	Linz Wilkinson (Coach, Manager of U19 2nd Team) Linz is the Manager of the U19 second team. She is a qualified teacher currently teaching in Wakefield. 	We also have a pool of coaches to attend the various regional selection events and tournaments:
	Amie Channon (Coach + Ex Junior) Amie was the captain of the 2007 U19 British team, winning Gold at Southampton. She is currently training to be a PE teacher in Chichester.
	Lindsay ‘Cuthers’ Cuthbertson (Coach) Lindsay is currently part of the 2008 British Mixed training squad, hoping to represent Britian at senior level in Vancouver. She has been coaching university ultimate for 5 years and currently plays with her local side Mu in the midlands.
	Tom Howard (Coach) Tom is a ex junior turned UKUA coach. He has been coaching university ultimate for around 4 years and has been part of the British Junior womens coaching team since 2005.
	Phil Sturt (Coach + Ex Junior) Phil was part of the 2005 British Junior Womens team, and has since joined us as a qualified coach. she currently plays for Sheffield Steal.
	Sasi Milmo (Coach) Sasi is an old hand at ultimate who joined the coaching team in 2006. She has coached at university level for many years, and has been playing ultimate for around 7 years.
	Mara Alperin (Coach) Mara is our resident UPA qualified coach form America. She has been part of the GBJW coaching team since 2005 and is currently living and playing in London.

GB U17s

GB U17s

Training for 2008 will begin shortly. GB U17s Open will be competing in the European Championships next summer somewhere in Eastern Europe (possibly Poland) at the beginning of July. To be eligible to play, you must have been born in 1992 or later.

GB Beach Ultimate

The National Beach ultimate teams run independently of the "main" squads. In 2007 GB had a very successful trip to the World Championships in Brazil with the Women winning gold and Masters winning silver medals. The open and mixed teams finished 4th and 7th respectively.

Organisation

The UK Ultimate Association is responsible for selecting the leaders of the GB squads and reviewing their progress and results. Once appointed - the GB captains are largely free to run their squads in the way they believe will deliver the best end results.

In 2007/8 the GB Captains were also offered the opportunity to run the squads at the World Championships Beach Ultimate 2007 in Brazil. This offer was taken up by the Open and Mixed squads. The Women's and Masters beach squads are being run independently of the main squads.

In 2007/8 the UKUA also took the step of creating two cross-squad roles:

1. Hannah Nistri is GB Squads Coordinator to support the captains and players in areas that typically require coordination across squads such as practice venues, kit, and tournament accommodation; and

2. Jeff Jackson is GB Fitness Coach.

The GB Medical team will be supporting the squads during the tournament - but are also becoming increasingly involved in helping players work out the best way to stay healthy before the event:

The team is led by the UKUA Medical Advisor Dr Usamah Jannoun. We are also lucky to have three physiotherapists working with the squads: Clare Whittingham, Parys Edwards and Petra Tanner.

As with all other roles associated with the GB Ultimate teams - these are volunteer roles.
