National Teams

The teams that represent the UK at ultimate are coordinated by UK Ultimate. These teams continue to play under the name "Great Britain Ultimate" (GB).

GB players continue to meet virtually all of the costs associated with playing for their country. The staff and volunteers supporting the Junior squads normally receive a limited amount of direct funding from UK Ultimate

We would love to provide our GB players with more support.  We do already provide proof-of-selection letters to all GB players to help them apply for help - and in some parts of the UK players are able to access a scheme called "FANS" which grants free or reduced-cost fitness training facilities to international athletes.  We have also set up a page on easyfundraising.org.uk which provides a platform whereby retailers make a percentage donation to a good cause of your choosing when you shop with them.  Please see our easyfundraising page for more information - and thanks very much if you are able to help.

There are GB teams in all of the divisions that currently exist in international ultimate. The senior divisions are: Women, Open and Mixed.  There are now up to four Masters divisions: Masters-Open, Masters-Women, Masters-Mixed and Grandmasters; and the four youth divisions are: Women (Junior & U17) and Open (Junior & U17).  As of 2010 WFDF announced the creation of a new Under-23 tournament with teams in Open, Women and Mixed divisions: the event now runs on a 2-year cycle on odd years.

We now also have regular international beach competitions.  These competitions feature all seven of the senior and masters divisions.

Every four years our teams at the World Ultimate & Guts Championships compete to qualify for the World Games - and if successful, we send a team to that event too - as we did in both 2013 and 2009.

Teams competing in 2017:

WFDF World Championships of Beach Ultimate (WCBU 2017, Royan France):

Open, Women, Mixed

Masters-Open, Masters-Women, Grand Masters

European Youth Ultimate Championships (EYUC 2017, Veenendaal Netherlands):

Under 20 Junior Open, Under 17 Junior Open

The Programme

UK Ultimate is responsible for selecting and supporting the leaders of the GB squads and reviewing their progress and results.

The GB Oversight Committee is an appointed sub-committee of the UKU Board that oversees activities across all of our GB squads.  In any given year there can be as many as 18 or 19 different GB squads in action and we have a growing need to ensure appropriate levels of coordination between squads and help ensure managers and players understand what to expect and what is expected of them.  For more information please see this page - including the Terms of Reference.

GB Ultimate - Senior Squads (Open, Women, Mixed, Masters, Beach)

Once appointed - the GB managers/captains of the senior squads (including the Beach squads) are largely free to run their squads in the way they believe will deliver the best end results - although as noted above we are increasing the level of coordination between squads, and working to remove as much adminstrative burden as possible from the squad managers so that they can concentrate on their team's performance.

The GB Junior Programme coordinates across four youth divisions: Junior Open & Women, U17 Open and Girls.  The programme operates under the GB Oversight Committee and is led by Ruth Flight, the GBJ Programme Manager.  The team coaching and management roles are shown below.  Basically the coaches are responsible for the Ultimate, and the managers are responsible for the broader "well-being" of the players.  Each of the four squads has a Team Coach and a Team Manager.  Generally we try to make sure there is at least one Assistant Coach involved with each squad aswell.  Current role descriptions can be found here.  Most of the squad coaches are keen to involve additional guest coaches at training sessions during the year, so please contact them or Ruth if you are interested in getting involved at that level.

The GB Junior squads are managed and coached by a team of trained and dedicated volunteers.  We’d like to say a BIG thanks to everybody who puts time and effort into making junior ultimate a success in Britain. Thanks to the coaches, teachers and parents who give up their time for the players.

If you would like to volunteer your time to GB Juniors, we would LOVE to hear from you - please contact us using the webform - or contact Ruth Flight directly.

GB Beach 2017

Here you will find all the information you need regarding the GB Beach teams competing in 2017.

GB Claim Silver at World Championships of Beach Ultimate

In June, 119 teams from 32 countries took to the sand in Royan for the World Championships of Beach Ultimate.

The USA took Gold in all the divisions, except the Women's division where Russia staged an incredible comeback to win the final on universe point.

GB were represented in all 7 divisions and came away with 2 Silver medals and 1 Bronze, which matched the number of medals won at WCBU 2015.

GB Open got off to shakey start but finished the tournament very strongly making it to the final with wins over Canada in the quarters and Philipinnes in the semis. USA took a very entertaining final but GB can be very proud claiming their second Silver medal in a row.

GB Women got through to the semi finals where they came up against the eventual champions Russia. They convincingly beat Canada to win the Bronze medal.

GB Grand Masters won a very credible Silver medal beating Finland in the semi final but USA were too strong in the final.

GB Mixed lost to Germany in the quarter final but finished 7th with a convincing win over Portugal.

GB Masters Men finished 8th after a couple of loses on universe point.

GB Masters Women finished 4th after making it through to the semi finals where they met a strong Canada side and then Australia in the 3v4 game.

GB Masters Mixed finished 5th with good wins over Finland and Spain.

GB Juniors 2017

Hello,

My name is Ruth Flight and I am the GB Junior Ultimate Programme Manager- big title, but basically I cover everything to do with the planning and running of the GB junior Programme.

The main bulk of my time is taken up with the planning and running of trials for both the U17 and U20 groups, and then the organisation required to take 90-100 players and approximately 20+ staff away each summer for either European Championships and/or World Championships where ever they may be held.

We at UKU Juniors aim to provide all players and staff with a safe, competitive and fun environment within which they can grow and develop both in their sporting abilities and on a social level, learning to adapt and work within a highly ambitious team setup, whilst having a blast at the same time.

Ultimate is still in general terms a ‘fairly new sport’ within the UK, but it is growing rapidly and juniors is the fastest growing section across the board.  With this in mind we are constantly updating and developing our systems and each year I am in post gives me fresh challenges to overcome and incorporate into our working guidelines.

All our staff are DBS checked by the UKU so you can rest assured that your children/players are in the best of hands.  Our staff are all volunteers and give up their time willingly to help coach and work with the young players, so please bear this in mind if you are waiting on a reply to email etc, they all have ‘normal fulltime jobs’, so it is not always  easy for them to reply quickly, please be patient.

***************************************************************

We're currently in the process of updating this section of the website, if ou have any queries please get in touch with us on either rfgbfrisbee@gmail.com or using the contact form and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

***************************************************************

Kind regards

Ruth Flight

USA Clean Sweep at WUGC

The USA took an impressive clean sweep in all the Divisions at the World Ultimate & Guts Championships in London, while GB claimed a couple of Bronze medals.

In June the best ultimate players in the world came to London to compete in the 14th World Ultimate & Guts Championships. This tournament was the biggest in it's history with over 120 teams competing from more countries than ever before, and had even been expanded to include a Masters Womens division for the first time. GB had teams in the Mens, Womens, Mixed, Masters Open, Masters Women and Guts Divisions. Despite at times playing in some extremely challenging weather conditions the competition was fierce and a fantastic advertisement of the sport. The Finals day was played in front of a full house at the Allianz Park Stadium with an amazing atmosphere and streamed live all across the globe.

In the Men's Division the USA won the title 15-11 in arguably the most exciting game of the day against Japan. Earlier in the day Australia had claimed Bronze with a convincing win against Canada 15-10. Earlier in the tournament GB had lost 15-11 to a very strong Australia team in their quarter final but comfortably took 5th place.

In the Women's Division the USA proved far too strong for Columbia winning the title by 15-7. GB Women put on an exciting game against Canada to start the tournament in front of a large crowd at the UCL Playing Fields. In the end GB Women finished 16th overall.

In the Mixed Division the USA again proved worthy winners beating Australia 15-6 in the final. GB Mixed lost to France in their quarter final but took 5th place with a fantastic win against Japan on universe point.

On the previous day the USA won the Masters Men's Division beating Canada 15-10. GB Masters Men did fantastically well to win Bronze against Denmark 15-9 in the 3v4 game.

In the Masters Women's Division it was a repeat performance for USA as they beat Canada 15-10. GB Masters Women did really well to get into the top pool and finished 6th.

In the Guts Division USA 1 beat Japan in the final, while GB won a tight victory over USA 2 to claim GB's second Bronze of the tournament.

Congratulations to the organisers and volunteers that did a fantastic job despite some unseasonably bad weather conditions, which meant a lot of games had to be rescheduled. The players showed great patience dealing with such a difficult situation and also put on an amazing show of top quality ultimate.

GB World Games

The World Games is the pinnacle of an Ultimate player's career. It is the biggest and best tournament you could ever play.

With fierce competition for places and the opportunity to represent Great Britain on the highest stage, the World Games is something special.  Taking place in Cali, Colombia in July, the event showcases non-Olympic, high-participation sports under the patronage of the International Olympic Comittee.

Playing in packed stadiums, with the world watching, alongside sports such as squash, karate and rugby 7's, will be a proud moment for the 13 players selected to represent GB. But our mission is clear: to bring home the gold medal.

The event only takes place once every four years, and will see athletes from at least 90 countires compete in over 35 sports. Visit www.worldgames2013.com.co for more information.

For Ultimate, only the top five nations at the World Ultimate Championships in 2012 plus the host nation qualify to compete. Great Britain will be facing USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and Colombia.

It is the best in the world competing against the best in the world.

The Campaign

Selection

Interested players were asked to submit detailed application forms, from which players were invited to a tough and hard fought set of trials held in November.

A squad of 28 has been selected and will train until the final team of 13 (6 women and 7 men) is chosen.

A reserve of each gender will also travel to Colombia in case one of the team is unable to play.

Warm-up Tournaments

The World Games squad will enter some UK tournaments over the coming months, and will also be travelling to America to compete against top international teams.

World Games

The World Games takes place in Cali, Colombia from 25th July to 4th August. Ultimate will be played over three days from 28th to 30th July.

Corporate Sponsorship

Become part of the greatest sport on Earth - support Team GB Ultimate.

Captivating players and spectators alike, Ultimate is a modern sport built to last. At the last World Games, in Taiwan, Ultimate sold over 40,000 tickets and will this year be one of the banner sports.

Supporting our team will ensure that your company is backing the fast-growing, community minded, elite sport Great Britain has to offer. We can also ensure brand promotion to huge audiences through logo placement, banners or using your product.

The recruitment opportunities are vast. Students and recent graduates are the core of the Ultimate community and GB will be running Student Development clinics.

Its rapid growth, both in the UK and around the world, is a testament to the sport's ability to inspire both children and adults on a truly universal basis. The sport's clean image, player enthusiasm and commitment, and community spirit attract new starters every week. They are drawn by the competitive, yet welcoming, atmosphere that is evident from the grassroots up to the elite level. GB nurtures this, offering development skills sessions to all.

To find out a bit more information download our brochure.

If your company shares our values and vision, don't hesistate to get in touch.

Why We Need Sponsorship

Although Ultimate is recognised by Sport England, it receives limited funding, and so even at the highest level all the training and tournament costs have to be met by the players themselves. Every season some GB players are forced to drop out as they can't afford the costs involved.

In order to achieve our ambition of winning a medal at the 2013 World Games, we are pushing ourselves to the limit; training six days a week, travelling across the country to train together. Sponsorship money would go towards training facilities and venues, equipment, coaching, and physiotherapy, as well as transport to an international warm up tournament and the World Games event in Colombia itself.

We need to raise £55,000 to cover the whole team's training costs and take us to Colombia. A breakdown of these costs can be provided upon request.

What We Can Offer in Return

We are happy to discuss a wide range of options from advertising your brand on merchandise, this website or at events to coming to you to deliver fun, team building skills sessions.

Download our Sponsorship Proposal to find out more, or email gbwgsponsorship@gmail.com if you are interested in providing sponsorship.

Love GB? Want to help out, get involved, or follow us?

Help Out - Funding

Unfortunately, we currently receive no funding and no sponsorship. We want to take the best team possible to Colombia, however, every year, GB players are forced to drop out due to the costs involved.

We have therefore launched our crowdfunding site - http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/take-gb-ultimate-frisbee-to-the-world-games.

This will enable you to donate to help us fund our training and costs for our coaching and support team.

Help Out - Volunteering

The Ultimate community is a wonderful thing, and skills or time sharing can be a rewarding way to help out.

We will advertise here and also on BritDisc.

GB Strike Gold in Copenhagen

GB managed to equal their record medal haul at the European Championships when they traveled to Copenhagen to take on the rest of Europe. For the first time countries were competing across 5 divisions and GB were represented in each of them.

GB Masters Open got the ball rolling by taking Bronze in their division with a convincing 17-9 win against Germany in the 3v4 playoff.

GB Masters Women managed to put a disappointing semi-final defeat on universe point behind them and rallied to beat Denmark 17-4 and claim Bronze. They also won the Spirit Prize for their division.

GB Women finished 5th despite winning 9 out of their 10 games. Unfortunetely a quarter-final defeat to Italy meant that they could only finish as high as 5th but they showed great spirit to claim that place.

Then came golden Sunday. In the Mixed Final GB took on Ireland, who had claimed the title at Windmill in their build up to EUC. But GB managed to win the final 17-12 to claim Gold.

In the Open final GB took on Germany, who had also gone through the tournament undefeated. In an exciting match GB managed to come through 17-14 to win the Gold.

Thank you to all tournament organisers, volunteers and medical team for making such a good event. The pictures are courtesy of Claerwen Snell, Phil Garner and Paul Cronin.

WCBU Kit Ordering Information

You should have received the following information by email, but we have seen some spam-filtering problems, so we have put the information online here too.  The ordering deadline is THURSDAY 4th DECEMBER.

Please note that further to the credit card problems some GB players experienced in 2013, JUMP+REACH / GAIA Europe implemented a complete overhaul of its payment system.  Credit card details are NOT sent to, NOR stored by, JUMP+REACH / GAIA Europe.  The four GB Junior squads competing in 2014 used the ordering process outlined below with no reported credit card problems.

GB teams competing at WCBU 2015 will be using the same designs that we had for GB teams in 2013-14 – with the updated event name and date on the sleeve of course.  If you have the minimum required uniform (red jersey, white jersey and blue shorts) you are able to re-use that kit if you prefer in order to save money.  You MUST email Ian Vidgen [gb.admin@ukultimate.com] and your team captain to confirm your number so that we can look out for duplicates in each team.  Checking for duplicates is the responsibility of the teams, but we will try to help.  We do expect that the other GB teams competing in 2015-16 will have a new design for the base kit.

STEP 1

You may have done this in 2013-14 and so provided it is based on the same email address as we have for this year, then you should be able to login immediately (i.e. there is no need to register again).   Your status will switch to "GB National Team" automatically with your first login (ignore the first two sentences of STEP 2) and you can immediately place your order following the steps below.

- OR -

Register as a CUSTOMER in the JUMP+REACH / GAIA Europe Online Shop
www.JUMP-and-REACH.com/login2.php?language=en
Ignore the questions about Company Name and VAT ID.

STEP 2
The GAIA system will switch your status to "GB National Team" automatically *when you next login* provided you have used the same email address as the one that we have uploaded to their site.  To move on with your order immediately, simply log off and log in again and your status is switched.  If you do not see the GB National Team options or your customer group (top right corner of the JUMP+REACH / GAIA Europe Online Shop) still shows "Customer" or "GAIA Europe Membership" instead of "GB National Team" then the most likely source of the problem is that you have registered with a different email address to the one which was uploaded to the GAIA server.  Please email Ian Vidgen gb.admin@ukultimate.com

*************************

To place your order, please follow these steps:

1. Login here with the account you have set up recently: www.JUMP-and-REACH.com/login2.php?language=en

2. Select "GAIA Kit GB WCBU 2015" in the Categories menu on the left side

  • If you cannot see that option immediately contact Ian Vidgen to check if you’re registered with the right email address.

3. Click on the item of choice to see all the details -> please *carefully* read the "ORDERING NOTES"

4. Select the respective order details (scroll down in case you don't see them):

  • Player Number
  • Size
  • Event
  • Team

5. Click on "In Cart" to put it in your shopping cart

6. In case you want to order some additional items, simply do the above again till you are done, always start with clicking on "GAIA Kit GB WCBU 2015" in the Categories menu on the left side.

7. When you are done, click on "Checkout" and follow the online order form

  • "Shipping with present uCustomize Team Apparel Order" is the only available delivery option, no need to click anything. Your kit then will be shipped with the other kits of your team members in one big box to your team captain / kit responsible.
  • "Credit Card VR-Pay virtuell Payment" is the only available method of payment, no need to click anything. Your CC details will be asked for in a later step.

8. Ensure you finally click "Confirm Order" to place your order.  Enter your credit card details now to complete your order.

  • You will be forwarded to a new and external site of a credit card processing company to enter your CC details. This is the most up-to-date and most secure way to handle your CC payment.
  • In case your credit card details did not go through you have to place the order again (even though you may have received an order confirmation email).

9. Please carefully check that your order went through and is correct:

  • You *always* receive a confirmation email to the given email address within the next 1-15 minutes (also check your spam folder)
  • Please *carefully check your order* to make sure everything is filled out correctly. Typical errors in the past have been: one part of the order completely misses the player number or the size, one part ordered to the wrong team/event, mix up of Men's and Women's sizes, some parts ordered with a different player number, etc.  Please let GAIA know within 24 hours in case something needs to be changed.
  • In case you did not receive a confirmation email, log in to your account again and click on "Account" (top left menu bar) to see your order history. If there is no order history then please place your order again.

*** Please remember the following ***
•    You need the correct email address in order to be able place your order.  If you don't know what that is check with your team captain/coach/manager to find out what email address they provided to Ian Vidgen (GB Administrator)

•    If you are having a problem logging in using a gmail address, please try the alternative @googlemail.com version in case that is the version registered on the server.
•    You can only order one base kit per player.
•    You need your player number in order to be able place your number.  If you don't know what that is check with your team captain/coach/manager.
•    Delivery will be done for the whole team - free of charge.
•    Please check your spam filters if you aren't getting emails from GAIA.
•    In case of ordering problems you can contact GAIA by email: service@JUMP-and-REACH.com
•    Orders to be completed by Thursday 4th December 2014 please

GB Masters Mens Beach Player Applications

Opening applications to tryout for GB Master Men for World Beach Championships 2017 in Royan, France.

We would like to invite applications from players that would like to try out for the GB Masters Men team competing at WCBU2017. The tournament is going to be held in Royan, France from 18th to 24th June 2017. After a 4th place finish in Dubai at WCBU2015 and two bronze medals at EUC2015 and WUGC2016 we are looking to build a team capable of medalling again.
To be eligible for the masters men division players must be 33 or older in the year of the tournament (born 1984 or earlier). More info about the tournament is up on the website (www.wcbu2017.org)

The team will be headed by David Povey and supported by Paul ‘Voodoo’ Waite and Ewen Buckling. As stated above we are looking to build a team capable of medalling and would encourage applications from anyone who will be 33 or over next year. The last two years have seen some great success for the Masters programme and while we are looking to harness that we are also looking to bring in new players. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone just turning 33 and ready to dip their toe into the Masters division.

We will be entering a team into UK Beach Nationals (Sept 17/18 in Bournemouth) and using this as part of the trial process. We appreciate it’s towards the end of a long season and attendance at this is not compulsory but it is encouraged; especially if you are new to the masters scene. If you’re interested in WCBU next year but can’t make UK Beach Nationals then still reply and get yourself on the list.
An initial selection will be done from email applications and those that play at UK Beach Nationals with further training dates announced in due course.

To register your interest please send an email to davepovey21 at gmail.com with some comments to the following:

Name:
Date of birth:
Summary of playing experience and teams represented:
Why you feel we should consider you for the squad:
Can you make UK Beach Nationals in Bournemouth on 17/18 September?

The deadline for initial responses is 2nd September. Further details of the next steps will be sent to all that apply.

Application for Assistant manager/coach

Assistant manager/coach – GB Open @ ECBU2013.

The European Championships Beach Ultimate 2013 will be held at Calafell Beach (Tarragona, Spain) from the 27th to the 30th of June 2013 and is expected to be played in 6 divisions (Open, women, mixed, masters and mixed-masters and grand-masters).

We are creating a team to win Gold at the tournament, and are looking for an assistant manager/coach to join the team management/coaching set up. In collaboration with the team manager/captains, this role would comprise the following duties, depending on experience.

  1. Team logistics for trials, training, and tournaments.

  2. Collate training information from the squad and liaise with the Strength & Conditioning coach.

  3. Planning and delivering training sessions (coaching).

  4. Scouting opposition players/teams.

  5. Calling lines, making tactical adjustments etc during games.

  6. Other duties as necessary.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity as part of an elite athletic programme, to develop strategy and tactics in partnership with the team management for an international event. They will play a key role in the development of GB calibre players and provide leadership in the formation of the team. This experience could be used as a “stepping stone” for future club or international coaching/management roles.

It is unlikely that financial remuneration will be available for the successful candidate, and therefore the ability to self-fund will be a necessary part of the selection decision.

Key Milestones for Role

13/14 October 2012 – Trial 1 (London/Bournemouth TBC)

3/4 November 2012 – Trial 2 (London)

March 2013 – Training Camp (1 day)

Candidates should complete the attached application form and send, by 5pm Thursday 4 October to gbopenbeach[at]gmail.com with the subject Assistant Manager – {Your Name}”. Any questions can also be directed to the same address. Player Applications

**Please note the training squad has been finalised.

We are creating a team to win Gold at the tournament. Players with the commitment and dedication to be part of this journey are welcome to complete the application form.

Selection

A trial squad of approximately 30 will be selected from the paper applications. On selection, the trial squad will be provided with a strength and conditioning program and an abbreviated playbook to familiarise themselves with ahead of the selection weekends.

A selection weekend will take place on 13/14 October. Saturday will be on grass in London, comprising fitness tests, technical drills and games. Triallists will then travel to Bournemouth (TBC) for the beach element of the trial on Sunday which will primarily be playing 5on5 Ultimate. A second trial will be used to finalise the training squad on 3/4 November.

The trials will facilitate the selection of a training squad of approximately 18 that will work as one team until final selection is made, and will facilitate the management of any dropouts due to injury, loss of form, other commitments etc. An essential part of the preparation will be for the training squad to play at Paganello in 2013. The tournament will also be used to select the final team for ECBU.

GB Beach 2013 - Mixed Masters

Hello to all Beach Ultimate lovers,

If you're interested in playing for the GB Mixed Masters team competing at the European Beach championships in Spain next Summer (27th - 30th June, Calafell Beach, Tarragona) Please email me, Lucy Byrne (ljwbyrne@yahoo.com) with the following details, by Sun 30th Sept

1. Your name
2. A brief statement about your beach playing experience/history/attributes
3. D.O.B. You need to be 33 or older to play (date of birth must be in 1980 or earlier)
4. If you are trying out for other GB Beach teams? (Open Masters, Womens, Mixed etc.)

Having won Gold and Spirit at the last world beach championships, I'm looking to run an equally spirited, committed and skilled team to compete at the highest level at Europeans next summer.

The first trial will be: Sun 4th Nov at Sandbanks (Poole). My hope would be to make this Trial completely open, however there is a limit to capacity and I'm looking for experienced players, so I will reserve the right to make an initial 'Paper selection' if required (Any unsuccessful applicants would be informed by Sun 7th Oct).

The 2nd trial would be provisionally Sun 3rd Feb (Open to cancellation if poor weather) then Sat 23rd or Sun 24th Feb at Sandbanks

Commitment will also be expected for a European beach tournament in March and for one (whole or half) weekend per month till the championships in June.

See you on the sand,

GB Juniors 2016

Hello,

My name is Ruth Flight and I am the GB Junior Ultimate Programme Manager- big title, but basically I cover everything to do with the planning and running of the GB junior Programme.

The main bulk of my time is taken up with the planning and running of trials for both the U17 and U20 groups, and then the organisation required to take 90-100 players and approximately 20+ staff away each summer for European Championships in Veenendaal.

Please get in touch with the relevant staff member should you have any questions regarding your child or player.

My aim is to use the website and in particular this page to publish all the information necessary in regards to GB juniors, so please keep your eye on this and check here first before contacting staff.

Kind regards

Ruth Flight

Player Costs and Payment

The payment plan DOES NOT INCLUDE TRIALS payments, these are payable to your Team Manager/coaches on the day of trials!

2016 GB Junior Ultimate U17 Women & Open Team Costs

The following costs are an estimation as I have not had confirmation of a few of the major costs, i.e. hotel and food.  With this in mind, I have created a payment plan where the final payment in June will be confirmed once I have these costs finalised.  I have worked on an ‘educated guess’ from previous years’ experience and costings, and will adjust the costs as soon as I have received the relevant confirmations.

The UKU is not a large corporate company with the financial ability to send large lumps sums of money without consulting our finance department, so please bear in mind that payment due dates are the FINAL date which the money should be with the UKU.  Also, please feel free to make payments before these dates if possible, as I have to send Team Fees as early as March 31st with player fees due soon after.

This years’ costs are inclusive of all your weekend team training costs, but NOT any tour costs, if your team are planning to play at tour as a warm up for Europeans, then you will pay for those weekends separately.

Please download the attachment 'GBJ 2016 Payment Details' for instructions on how to make payments.

The payment plan for the Under 20 teams 2016, is as follows:

Payment Due Date      Amount Due

March 30th                                           £200.00 DEPOSIT -  is confirmation of your place in the team and is non-refundable.

April 30th                                              £200.00

May 31st                                               £200.00

June 30th                                             £200.00 – TBC -when confirmations received

GB Juniors 2015

Our new staff for 2015/2016 have just been appointed and you can see their names and contact details here

Please get in touch with the relevant staff member should you have any questions regarding your child or player.

My aim is to use the website and in particular this page to publish all the information necessary in regards to GB juniors, so please keep your eye on this and check here first before contacting staff.

Kind regards

Ruth Flight

GB Junior Ultimate Programme Manager

GB Juniors Take on Europe

In Frankfurt GB took on the best in Europe at the European Youth Ultimate Championships. GB were competing in the U20 Open, U20 Women, U17 Open and U17 Women divisions.

The GB U20 Open team came through a close quarter-final game against Ireland before losing to a very strong Germany team in the semi-final. They then beat France 15 - 11 on the final day to win Bronze.

GB U20 Women unfortunately lost their quarter-final on universe point to the eventual winners Austria. However, they had a great tournament and took 7th.

GB U17 Open did extremely well to beat France 11-7 to take Bronze, especially considering France had beaten them earlier in the tournament.

GB U17 Women had a good tournament and convincingly beat Sweden 15-2 in their last game to take 5th.

Congratulations to all the players that represented GB who performed very well in extremely hot conditions. Congratulations should also go to the Team Managers and Coaches, as well as "The Dream Medical Team" Alethea Black, Sarah Jones, Hayley Griffiths, Melissa Gollan and Hollie Taylor who helped the players perform so well.

There is no food provision at the school so make sure you bring  adequate food and drinks.

There is plenty parking at the school for anyone driving

For people arriving by train, the nearest station is Warwick Parkway – please let your GB team manager know if you plan to travel by train. It *may* be able to arrange pick you ups to get you to the pitches. We also suggest getting a young person’s / student rail card to help reduce costs.

Accommodation will be provided on the Saturday night only, on the floor of a local village hall a short drive from the venue – so everyone will need to bring a sleeping bag and roll mat/blow up bed or similar in water proof covering please!  You do not want these to get wet pitchside! Black bag will suffice.

We cannot guarantee that we will not be sharing the changing facitilities at school, so all your kit must be taken pitch side with you.

Both the school and the accommodation have shower facilities.

An evening meal will be arranged for the Saturday night, as will a basic breakfast on Sunday morning.

Please note that, although a large section of players attending these trials will be 18 or over, that all GB trials, trainings and events are completely alcohol and drug  free on a zero-tolerance basis, and you are expected to behave in a responsible, mature manner or the UKU staff can request that you return home.

INFORMATION FOR GB JUNIORS - 2015

  Information for GB Juniors 2015

 European Junior Ultimate Championship’s 2015

Frankfurt, Germany   August 3-8

For those of you aiming to make GB Junior Ultimate Teams this year, here is a little information to help with your planning should you make the team.

Costs will be in the region of £600-£700, we cannot give a final cost as yet because we do not have those figures from the German organising committee yet.  I am basing this on last year’s costs, so hopefully this will give us a starting point.

Payments will be collected in the following manner:

Due date                                Amount

March 31st                             £200 (deposit-non refundable)

April 30th                               £150

May 31st                                £150

June 31st                               £150 or remaining balance in full

We will be aiming to travel out on 1st August - returning either overnight on 8th or early on 9thAug

KIT COSTS

Kit costs - the required base kit will be in the region of £30-40 once again I have not had the final costing for this but will let you know as soon as I do.  There will be additional items available for you to order, but these will be non-essentials, only the base kit is required as ‘official team kit’.

BOOTS

Football boots and or blades are required for playing, NON METAL STUDS are essential!  You will not be allowed to play or train in trainers as these do not give you the grip required whilst playing ultimate.

FUND RAISING

You may have noticed there is a lot of GB going on this year.  We will have 19 different GB teams competing at various different World or European championships in 2015.  We have started an easy fundraising page to raise money towards the central costs such as medical support team, coaches & managers costs for the youth teams, etc.  If we are successful we will publish information on how it was spent of course.  This is really easy to use and DOESN’T COST YOU ANY EXTRA AT ALL! It just helps us raise funds for GB Ultimate-great cause J

If you are able to help – that’s awesome – thanks very much.

Using easyfundraising.org.uk is pretty easy to set up:

Keep an eye on this page as all updates will be posted here in the coming months.

Child Protection

All managers, coaches, players and volunteers operate under the UKU Safeguarding Policy.

The UKU is committed to procedures and philosophies which have been developed to protect children and young people, and which also protect adult members of the project from misunderstandings and false accusations of abuse.

Our policies and documents are available here.

Fitness

Links to the GBJ fitness plans will be posted here in the coming weeks.

If you are have any questions or are finding the exercises too difficult / too hard, contact your team coach.

If you experience any severe pain whilst exercising, stop immediately and contact your coach.

Remember: Always make sure you are in a safe environment when exercising. Make sure no obstacles are within your working area and be sure to stay in well lit areas if working outside. Exercising in a group is safer, fun and good for motivation!

Stretching Routine

This is a basic guideline for stretching. Feel free to add your own stretches.

This routine should be done at the END OF EVERY fitness session.

You may feel like stretching isn't necessary, but it is key to INJURY PREVENTION.

GB Senior Squads 2011-12

GB Open 2011-12

GB Open is holding the first of two tryouts towards selection of its 2011-2012 squad on the weekend of 09-10 October 2010.

Recognizing that, more so that in any of the previous selection years, there is now a huge pool of talented players across the whole of GB, these tryouts will be walk-in and we encourage players from any club to come and match themselves up against the best.  Juniors and under 23s (over 18s only) are encouraged to come to the trials.

Selection will be based on skill and athleticism, as well as in-play vision and timing.  On day one, players will be put through a series of specific drills which will allow selectors to grade them according to their skill and/or potential.  On day two, a considerable time will be spent on providing players with some basic marking, throwing and cutting drills in an effort to lift the skill base of the squad during the off season.  An initial cut will be made after the first trials and players will be personally invited to the second tryout weekend (date tbc - but probably 30-31 Oct).

We do need to know who is coming in advance.  Please fill in the informal application form and then email it to gb[dot]open[at]ukultimate[dot]com - so we know who you are.

GB Women 2011-12

GB Women's Trials

The Committee:
Jenna Thomson - Captain
Sophie Watson - Vice Captain
Jools Murray
Gemma Taylor

We invite you to attend the first of 3 GB women's trials on the 9th and 10th of October 2010. We believe that there is an exciting group of talented women in the UK and we would like to see as many of you as we can to achieve our aim of creating a motivated team that is capable of medalling at Worlds in 2012.

We believe that the success or our team lies in unifying the strengths and experience of individuals to create a team that will train, play and develop together on a two year journey to Worlds 2012.

What we are looking for are women who:

- Want to play for the GB Women
- Want to improve
- Value the contribution they can offer to the team
- Have the confidence to attend our trial dates

We encourage women of all levels of experience to try out. (All attendees must be over 18 unless having received a personal invitation prior to trials.)

Please download and complete the application form and email it to ultimate[dot]women[at]gmx[dot]com.

We will be on hand before, during and after trials for any questions or feedback you may wish.

You are expected to make all three trial dates (dates TBC soon).

If you cannot make all 3 please contact the group using the email below with an explanation why.

After the 3 initial trials we will pick a squad of promising players. These promising players will then be given feedback/homework to do over the off season to prepare our bodies and skills for the exciting season ahead.

A retrial will be held in January (date TBC) where we will pick the GB squad that will train throughout the spring.

The final team selection will be made towards the end of Spring, with a focus on preparing for Europeans 2011.

It is important that you all feel confident approaching trials so please do not hesitate to contact the group with questions or concerns.

GB Masters Open 2011-12

GB Masters 2011-12 will be led by Stu Mitchell, Ben Mitchell & Si Hill.

Latest info:

We're going to start with two trials.  We'd like people to attend both as far as possible.  Depending on numbers we MAY do some selection prior to and after the first trial.

Dates: 26-27 Feb and 2-3 April.  Locations TBD but expect somewhere between Coventry and Leeds...
Times will be approx:
Sat: 1pm-5pm, followed by a short(ish) meeting approx 6pm-7pm.
Sun: 9am-1pm

The trials are completely open to anyone that is eligible to play GB and meets the age criteria.  The eligibility rules from WUC 2008 can be seen here
http://www.wfdf.org/rules/NTPER_WFDF_Ultimate_Worlds_Events_2007-12-17.pdf
 - its pretty unlikely there will be substantial changes.

To be eligible for EUC 2011 your date of birth must be in 1978 or earlier.
To be eligible for Worlds 2012 your date of birth must be in 1979 or earlier.  We want to hear from you too, and you are welcome to get involved straight away during 2011.

We will have more info about additional dates, etc, at the Feb session.  I know some people are worrying about which tournaments we might do.  *IF* we enter a European tournament in 2011, we will aim for Windmill Windup - but we may look for other ways to get some match practice in June/July.

We expect to create an extremely competitive team...  If you aren't quite sure about committing right now - please put yourself forwards to come to one or both of the trials and find out how we see things shaping up.

To put yourself forwards for selection please email gbmasters@ukultimate.com (or email Si directly at his blueyonder address if you have it) with the following info:
1. Name
2. DoB
3. Which year(s) you want (or are able) to play
4. Some playing background: current/past teams - that sort of thing.
5. What player "class" you are if don't have a UK passport (see WFDF eligibility link for details)
6. If you cannot come to one or both trials please say so.

There are some great Masters players out there who might only hear about this through word-of-mouth.  If you know of anyone that might be interested please feel free to forward this message to them - we will certainly consider strong players that might otherwise not be playing.

GB U24 Team Manager Application

The WFDF World U24 Ultimate Championships will be held in Perth, Australia in January 2018.  GB will be sending teams in the Mens, Womens and Mixed Divisions.

To apply for the position of Team Manager please complete the attached application form and email it to gb.admin@ukultimate.com and si.hill@ukultimate.com. The deadline for applications is 31st July 2016

Core to the vision of the GB U24 squads is a collaborative, cooperative and mutually supportive approach between the three divisions of Open (Men), Women and Mixed. This is considered particularly important at the Under 24 stage of the performance pathway, as this is the first point at which players can participate in, and may have a choice between, a single gender or mixed gender squad. Consequently, Managers of squads at this level are expected to work closely with Managers of the other Under 24 squads throughout the planning, selection, preparation and competition phases of the Under 24 season. In light of this, willingness and capacity to work collaboratively will be considered when selecting Managers for the Under 24 squads.

All the successful Team Managers will be expected to attend a planning meeting which is likely to be held at the end of August or the beginning of September 2016.

We have received some questions about the scope of the role(s).  We hope this will help.

The costs for this event will be high and so we are looking to keep the number of non-playing staff reasonably low.  The position is described as Manager because we expect you to take responsibility for the team.  We expect in general this will involve being the lead coach.

You will be responsible for:

1.       Selection, training sessions and coaching.  You don’t have to do all of this on your own of course but you are responsible for making sure it all happens.

2.       Working collaboratively with the managers/coaches on the other teams to the benefit of the overall programme (e.g. on selection, training dates and locations)

3.       Ensure team meets all the event-entry procedures (registering players, etc)

4.       Ensuring you and the team adhere fully to the UKU Code of Conduct and uphold the Spirit of the Game at the high levels expected of a GB team

Finances and kit are handled centrally by the GB Administrator who will also be able to provide some assistance with organising trainings and the team/player registration processes for the event.

Applications from more than one person are welcome but we are likely to limit the funding to the equivalent of one person per team.

Applications that propose an approach working across all three squads are also welcome.

GB Player Pathway

The UKU are collecting data about and from GB players (past and present) to help guide planning around GB Squads and player development in the future.  If you have ever played for one of the GB teams, we would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete the survey.

We estimate it will take 5-10 minutes for most people to complete and your responses will be treated confidentially.  Thanks for your support - and please pass the link to other people that you know played for GB in the past - we’re keen to gather as much data as we can.

Thanks
