Coach Registration Scheme

Introduction

The UKU Coach Registration Scheme is part of the wider of UKU Coaching Scheme. We have put together a process for coaches to registers on our database so we can give them support through benefits such as liability insurance.

Registering as a coach is a requirement for anyone who is doing more than just informal coaching in their main club. Anyone who has (1) done the level 1 award, and/or (2) are coaching ultimate outside of their main club, should seek more information below.

Benefits

  • Formal recognition of status as UKU Registered Coach.
  • Option to publish contact details on UKU website's coaching pages.
  • Option to join the coaching map scheme.
  • Enables UKU to direct third parties (e.g. schools or sports development officers) to appropriate and interested coaches, on a local and regional level.
  • Includes £5M public liability insurance cover.

As the UKU Coaching Register grows we will look to provide additional benefits such as discounts with suppliers of coaching equipment, etc.

(1) People who have done the UKU Level One award

Please note that people who have attended the Level 1 course are not required to register with the scheme if:

  • They are not actually involved in any coaching at the moment, or
  • They are a player doing some informal coaching in their main club.

(2) People who are coaching outside of their main club

Anybody who coaches sports is responsible & liable for the health and safety of those they are coaching. The UKU Coaching Scheme now offers liability insurance for ultimate coaches, as well as coach education pathways, in the form of UKU Coaching Awards.

People who are coaching Ultimate outside of a club, for example in the community or at a school, should attend a UKU Level One coaching course and then register with the UKU Coach Registration Scheme.

What Next

For those who have decided that they need to, or want to register there are a few more parts to understand. We have identified that there will be two different groups of coaching wishing to join the scheme; (1) those who will be coaching children & young people and (2) those who will not. To avoid creating barriers to registration, we have established two different pathways for each group.

(1) Coaching Children & Young People
This pathway requires that the registering coach completes two additional elements. Please navigate to the additional pages before submitting the online form.

(2) Coaching Only Adults
This pathway does not require the coach to complete additional elements of the process. Please be sure to tick that you are "opting out" of working with children and young people on the online registration form. Not completing the additional elements does mean that you cannot coach anyone under 18. You will not have liability insurance if someone under 18 gets hurt while in your care or as a result of your coaching.

If you are happy with opting out then please progress straight to the online form.
