Introduction
The introduction of the UKU Coaching Register is part of the wider of UKU Coaching Scheme. The aim is to enable UK Ultimate to be able to differentiate between active ultimate coaches and individuals that simply want to attend some modules of the UKU Coaching Scheme for their own interest.
Please note that it is a requirement that you join the UKU Coaching Register if
- You have done the Level 1 award, and
- You are coaching Ultimate outside your immediate club (see below for more details).
Benefits
- Formal recognition of status as UKU Registered Coach
- Option to publish contact details on UKU website's coaching pages
- Enables UKU to direct third parties (e.g. schools or sports development officers) to appropriate and interested coaches
- Includes £5M public liability insurance cover
As the UKU Coaching Register grows we will look to provide additional benefits such as discounts with suppliers of coaching equipment, etc.

Validity
UKU Coaching Registration lasts for 1 year and will need to be renewed annually
Requirements
In order to join the UKU Coaching Register you must:
- Be a full member of UKU (Full or Uni/U18 membership)
- Have successfully completed the UKU Level 1 coaching course
Please note that individuals that have attended the Level 1 course are not required to register if:
- They are not actually involved in any coaching at the moment, or
- They are a player doing some informal coaching in their main club.
Future Requirements
From 1st June 2010
- Hold a current Basic First Aid qualification (e.g. equivalent to 1-day British Red Cross “First Aid for Appointed Person”)
- UKU will determine whether a particular First Aid course is sufficient.
- First Aid course with focus on sport is preferred
- Licences will not be valid for individuals that have not obtained such a qualification by this date unless they can provide evidence of a date on which they will be attending a course in the near future
From 1st January 2011
- Have attended Sports Coach UK “Safeguarding and Protecting Children” (or equivalent) within the previous three years
Unspecificied Date
- We may introduce a "refresher course" to ensure coaches remain up to date
- UKU also reserves the right - with adequate warning - to introduce additional requirements if it is deemed to be necessary or good practice
