LAST CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR SQUAD LEADERSHIP ROLES IN OPEN, WOMEN, MIXED SQUADS FOR 2011-12.

Deadline of SUN 8th AUG 2010 to receive final applications for those roles.

Final decisions will be announced by MON 23rd AUG 2010.  UKU reserves the right to adjust the timeline if circumstances make it possible to accelerate a decision, or necessary to delay.

UK Ultimate invites applications for the following roles:

• GB OPEN - squad leaders [Deadline Sun 8 Aug]
• GB WOMEN - squad leaders [Deadline Sun 8 Aug]
• GB MIXED - squad leaders [Deadline Sun 8 Aug]
• GB MASTERS - squad leaders [No deadline set]

We will also be starting a similar process across the GB Junior squads within the next few weeks - although in that case the roles that we require will be specified up front by UKU.

Please note

1. The role title "squad leaders" has been left deliberately open, so that there are no specific limitations on the organisational approach taken within each squad.  I.e. applications may be made by an individual or by groups, and may be on the basis of being a non-playing coach, a team-manager, a committee, player-captains, etc.  Please provide a document that outlines the approach you plan to take with the squad, but please review the GB Manager Application Form below and ensure that you are at least covering the sections in that document.  You are welcome to use that form as a starting point if you like, but it is not a requirement.

2. Whilst internal team tactics and approach will be left to the squads to determine, we will be looking to have more coordination across squads (e.g. on training dates/locations) than has been done in the past - and squad leaders will be expected to support this.

Process

The UKU Board will appoint a group of appropriate players/ex-players to review the applications.  Applicants will be given an opportunity to voice any concerns they have about the panel prior to any decisions being made.  The Board will take any such concerns into account, and may, if deemed appropriate, make changes to the composition of the panel.

GB Squad Leadership - Application Criteria
The successful applicant(s) will be required to undertake the following:

• Elect and invite an initial squad of players.
• To plan and run all training sessions in the preparation for the World Championships and to arrange appropriate competitive practice.
• To make the final team selection, at the appropriate time as required by the event organisers.
• To devise playing strategies and implement these in training sessions and competition.
• To maintain regular communication with the UKU to ensure players receive timely information regarding admin-related issues (including but not restricted to payments, registration, kit, travel to the tournament).

Team Managerment Ideals
All members (players and non-players) - but in particular the leaders - of a GB squad are required to positively represent Great Britain and UK Ultimate.  All managers, coaches and captains are required to demonstrate leadership and organisation of elite players whilst maintaining high standards of sportsmanship/spirit of the game.

Candidates who wish to apply for the role of team manager are required to submit an application which should cover the following areas, as per the application template:

• Experience of playing in and managing teams at elite level
• Details of experience in that division (open/women/mixed)
• Details of the training and preparation schedule, including information on warm-up tournaments or competitive practice.
• What he/she is looking for in players
• Information on how final team selection will be made
• Details of any support required from either the UKU or the wider ultimate community
• Any other relevant information to support the application.
