Promotional DVD - can you help? ************************************************ 1. Junior Ultimate - News Roundup You might think that the European Championships starts at the end of July in Southampton. But for the Great Britain U17 Girls' team it all kicks off this week! A squad of 19 players (selected from over 40 that were involved in trials) are heading out to Latvia to compete in the U17 Girls European Championships against Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Russia! Come on GB! The team have also entered as an additional GB Junior Women's team at EUC07 in Southampton. Good luck also to the GB2 Open team that is playing in the Baltic Open tournament at the same time. The first junior women's indoor nationals took place in October - and we expect the event to repeat this Autumn with more than 10 teams. The Junior U17s had a 14-team Indoor Nationals in March - and the standard continues to improve. Selection for the GB U17s team was tougher than ever this year with 17 players selected from a group of over 60 that were hoping to play. The Junior Open GB team looks set to be one of our strongest ever - with all of last year's players retaining their place following their experience of going to Boston last year. Many of these players are starting to establish themselves in Open club squads and are getting excellent, additional experience as a result. Senior (Open/Women/Mixed) club teams that have juniors in their squads should in general have two named adults responsible for the juniors on those teams - and those adults in particular should have an Enhanced CRB check in place. The Enhanced CRB check can now be done through the UKUA. Please contact Admin for more details, or if you have questions about your own club's situation in this regard. And finally - this weekend saw the largest ever Junior Open Outdoor Nationals. In all 18 teams entered with Mowers taking the crown for the 3rd year in a row. They beat Arctic (Spirit of the Game winners) in a very windy final. Third place went to Catch Those. The full results will be out soon (if not already). ************************************************ 2. Mixed Tour Results Congratulations to BOOM for winning the UKUA Mixed Tour 2007, and also to Bristol Plastic Factory for winning Spirit of the Game at two of the three events. Full results ************************************************ 3. Open/Women's Tour Tour 1 saw 60 teams battling the weather and the noise of Heathrow on 23-24 June. Clapham 1 and Iceni 1 walked away with the main titles - not for the first time. Ltd Release (B Tour winners), Flyght Club and Devon 1 gained promotion to the A Tour. SOTG went to Fusion (A), Lucky Huckers 2 (B) and Strange Blue (W). There were a couple of relatively serious injuries - best wishes to those involved for a speedy recovery! A lost property list will be made available before Tour 2. And check out Keith Hodgson's callahan in the final; plus action from the sudden death point of the Fire vs. Fusion semi-final courtesy of Push Pass' Clip of the Day! ************************************************ 4. EUC 2007 Good luck to the GB teams and players in their final preparations for Europeans in Southampton. Train hard, eat well! No doubt our teams would welcome some home support at Europeans. If you're not directly involved why not check out the website for details on when the big games are going to happen? Hope to see you there... ************************************************ 5. "Introduction to Ultimate" leaflets As mentioned in the last member update, the UKUA has printed a large number of promotional leaflets to help members that are involved in trying to promote the game or expand their club. Please contact us if you feel you can make good use of these leaflets. Thanks again to Paul Hurt and Lookfly for their help in making these leaflets happen. ************************************************ 6. Individual sponsorship pack Have you successfully obtained sponsorship or free support? E.g. from the company you work for, or a local scheme for reduced costs of sporting facilities. If so - and if you are willing to share your experience - please get in touch so that we can do a better job of giving individuals (primarily those travelling to international tournaments) the tools to go out and win more support. Vancouver in particular is going to be an expensive trip! ************************************************ 7. Promotional DVD - can you help? We're very grateful to Lookfly who gave us their remaining stock of "Student Guide to Ultimate" DVDs to give to people on the UKUA Leader Award course. But we've almost used those up and really need to create an updated version of this DVD to continue the good promotional work that Lookfly started. Can you help? In addition to the existing material that Lookfly and Roadie Films have given us permission to continue to use - we're very pleased to say that Push Pass Productions will also contribute material to the cause! So we have material but would benefit from some support putting it all together. In addition to using the new DVD with the Leader Award course we hope to provide copies to the University clubs as they start their annual campaign to swell the number of ultimate players in Freshers week. And on the subject of DVDs - look out for Push Pass Productions' new highlights DVD - UNO2006 - which was filmed at the University Outdoor Nationals 2006. Full details of how to get your copy are available from their website.
