Here you'll be able to find information about London Ultimate, a sub-section of UK Ultimate that is organised by players in London, for players in London.

As well as continuing to run and evolve the established London Summer and Winter Leagues, London Ultimate also aims to assist the UKU in further developing Ultimate in London.

We have previously aimed to build up the following areas - but honestly - things have petered out rather.

** DO YOU WANT TO HELP RE-ESTABLISH A LONDON-ULTIMATE COMMITTEE TO WORK ON THESE THINGS?  IN THEORY WE HAVE A LOT OF CAPACITY TO DO MORE IN AND BETWEEN THE GROUPS AND TEAMS ACROSS LONDON.  PLEASE GET IN TOUCH BY EMAILING london@ukultimate.com. **

Pick-up Games

There are a number of pick up or informal games that happen across London, the below links will take you to more information:

*London Pick-up Group on Facebook*

*Tuesday night in Fulham*

*Tuesday night in Hyde Park*

*Sunday Afternoon in Hyde Park*

*Sunday Afternoons in North London*

London Calling will kick off the UKU Open & Women's tour 2012 with strong international teams in town as part of their preparations for the World Championships in Japan.

The event is also moving all four divisions to the fantastic UCL playing fields near Jn 22 on the M25 (St Albans).

Cost

The fee per team will be £190.00

Accommodation

We do have onsite camping.  However the venue is charging us £10 per tent.  The charge is £10 regardless of how many nights.  I.e. if you stay two nights it will work out at £5 per tent per night.  This fee was set by the venue, and they are incurring additional costs as a result of the camping.

We will provide additional updates on whether you can prepay for camping, but there will be an option to pay on arrival.

Catering

Onsite food and bar will also be available throughout (including Saturday evening).

We are looking into the possibility of the venue providing an evening meal on Saturday evening as we hope to stage several show games - including GB Open vs. one of the major international teams, and GB Women v Germany.

Volunteer

As with all large scale tournaments a lot of work goes in behind the scenes to make sure the weekend runs smoothly.  This year we are seeking volunteers to help make sure London Calling goes as well as possible.  Ideally we are looking for people who can help on either/both days of the weekend and possible on Friday afternoon and evening too.

Some of the roles we are looking to fill are below, however if you feel there is something in particular that you might be able to add please let us know.

  • Water dispense
  • Score collection/Time keeping
  • Parking Marshals
  • Litter collection
  • Site set up

If you are interested in volunteering either for the whole weekend or just one day please fill out the form and we will be in touch.

****Register as a volunteer****

Accomodation and transport:

This venue is very easy to reach by public transport:

  • Get a train or tube to Putney station (NOT East Putney!!!!) and then exit.
  • Directly outside, is a bus stop where the 85 heads straight to the fields.
  • Get on the 85 and it will head out of Putney and onto the back roads alongside the A3.
  • Stay with the bus until it reaches a T junction with the A3.
  • It will turn right here and then you need to wait until the bus has passed Asda and Texaco on the left and get off by the Roehampton Campus stop.
  • The fields are there on your left.

You can get to Putney quickly from Clapham Junction, Vauxhall, Waterloo and also on the District line.

You should be able to reach the grounds easily from places like Kingston (e.g. using the #85 in the opposite direction) and Wimbledon but please check http://www.tfl.gov.uk/

Driving

You can only get to the fields from the southbound A3.
The turning into the grounds is at the bottom of the hill after Roehampton, just after a large ASDA superstore (on the left) and basically opposite the Robin Hood Gate entrance to Richmond Park.

If you are coming from outside London the simplest route is to use Jn 10 of the M25 which puts you on the A3. Arguably it might be quicker to cross London if coming from the North or West depending on the time of day.

If coming North up the A3 towards London, you will NOT be able to access the fields unless you turn around and head back down the southbound side of the road. To do this, follow the A3 towards London and at the Robin Hood roundabout (A308 to Kingston on your left) head straight on and then take the next left turn, signposted to Putney Vale Cemetary. This will take you under the road and allow you to join the A3 heading south on the other side. Rejoin the A3, stay in the left hand lane and then take the left turn which will be sign-posted Richardson Evans.

If you miss the turning, as it's quite possible to do, then don't panic, get in the right hand lane and do another one 180 degree turn at the roundabout and try again!

Location

Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields
Roehampton Vale
London SW15 3PQ
United Kingdom
Please bring:

items that will make your participation more comfortable: London Winter League can be, and often is, cold and/or wet; there's very little shelter pitchside; and there are no food or drink facilities onsite.

Suggested items include, but are not limited to:

  • snacks;
  • water bottles (there are taps on site);
  • flasks containing hot drinks;
  • undershirts, leggings, hats, etc. to keep you warm whilst playing;
  • hats, gloves, coats, overtrousers, etc. to keep you warm between/after games;
  • a towel & warm dry clothes to change into at the end of the day;
  • a waterproof bag to keep the above items dry
    (bin liners work well, and can be used to dispose of any rubbish at the end of the day!)

A weather forecast for the day can be accessed via Metcheck.

There are toilets on site, and we may have use of changing rooms with showers.

There is an ASDA approx 15min walk from the fields, open 11:00 - 17:00, with a Cash Machine and a Cafe - see the ASDA website for more details.

  • snacks;

  • water bottles (there are taps on site);

  • flasks containing hot drinks;

  • undershirts, leggings, hats, etc. to keep you warm whilst playing;

  • hats, gloves, coats, overtrousers, etc. to keep you warm between/after games;

  • a towel & warm dry clothes to change into at the end of the day;

2010 London Women's Winter League

Hey All-

We had a good turnout for teams at the inaugural women's winter league last year, and the scope of the women's game in London is looking perfect for us to mix things up a bit. This year, to help increase numbers and give people more experience, winter league will be run more like a hat tournament. We're encouraging women of all levels (from beginner through to GB) to turn up to play any number of events they want; we'll be splitting teams up evenly before the first event and each hat team will be the same throughout all of the winter league events. Even if you can only make one of the events, it'll still be great to come out! This is going to be an awesome opportunity for women to learn the game, get some great coaching, meet new people, learn new drills, and gain more experience.

There are a lot of initiatives going out for women in London ultimate this year, but none of them will work without lots of participation. So get involved, we'd love to see you out for even one winter league event!

Women's winter league dates:
    Sunday 28 November
    Sunday 19 December

    Sunday 16 January
    Sunday 13 February

All of the above to be held at Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields (near Wimbledon). Schedules haven't been finalised or anything, but each event is likely to be a round-robin of three or four games.

The cost for all four events has been solidly capped at £35 (and you'll be able to pay for individual events), however, we're still finalizing pricing.  The object is to keep the cost down and run a good tournament.

***************************************

You can register and pay for each event here

***************************************

Please fill out the attached form and e-mail it back to me (kaleigh[dot]maietta[at]gmail.com) no later than Wednesday 10 November. Anyone who wants to play but gets their form in later than that may be charged more per event.

Can't wait to see everyone out there!

    London Ultimate Christmas Hat 2010

    Event date:
    Repeats every day until Tue Dec 28 2010 .
    27 Dec 2010
    28 Dec 2010
    Event details:

    As well as working on the 'official' London Winter League, the London Ultimate Committee have been putting thought into being more organised than usual about a Christmas Hat tournament.

    We've particularly realised that, with Christmas Day being on a Saturday, many of you may consider some post prandial perambulation to be in order... unless you're planning to sit around getting fat whilst watching re-runs of Bond movies...

    So,

    it’s going to take place on Tuesday 28th of December, the second of the Christmas bank holidays.

    The venue will be Tooting Bec Common, Balham . This is the same place as the London summer league pitches - Balham pitches on Streetmap.co.uk

    Balham tube on the Northern Line is closest and there are no works scheduled as yet. From the tube, walk up Balham Station Road past the Sainsbury's car park on your left. Cross over Bedford Hill at the lights (where The Bedford is) and walk down Fernlea Road. Turn R at the end of the road and go under the little railway bridge. You'll see a kids playground, and behind it a big grassy area. We're playing there.

    Currently I working on a start time of 10.30am with a finish of about 2pm depending on the number of games.

    Depending on numbers the plan will be to play a couple of games and then decamp to The Bedford for food, drinks and the comparing of Christmas jumpers.

    If you want to play please drop me an email (so that I can get an idea of numbers in advance and don’t spend the day stood on my own in the cold) just saying that you would like to play or fill in the poll at http://doodle.com/2g2t4yhbnmtt7dsm

    London Winter League 2011/12

    As the nights draw in and the sunshine of the summer fades as a distant memory it’s time for the return of London Winter League.  As with previous years we will be running open and mixed divisions across different weekends with four match days for each division. We have tried to schedule these to minimise the clashes with any other major events however some will always occur.

    Building of the success of last year we will again be running a Hat format for the Women’s division of 3 of the four match days. The final Women’s event will be a team event to give teams an opportunity to play together ahead of tour. Due to a lack of fields at REMPF and the desire to bring the womens division to a more central location to encourage greater participation we will be playing all but the first event at locations closer to central London.

    ****Everything you need to know is in the essential information document here****

     ****You can register to play  here****

    Where and when

To do this, follow the A3 towards London and at the Robin Hood roundabout (A308 to Kingston on your left) head straight on and then take the next left turn, signposted to Putney Vale Cemetery. This will take you under the road and allow you to join the A3 heading south on the other side. Re-join the A3, stay in the left hand lane and then take the left turn which will be sign-posted Richardson Evans.

    If you miss the turning, as it's quite possible to do, then don't panic, get in the right hand lane and do another one 180 degree turn at the roundabout and try again!

    Event date:
    07 May 2011
    Event details:

    On Saturday 7th of May London Ultimate will be hosting a corporate tournament in Totting Bec common - nearest tube station is Balham and it’s the same venue we use for summer league.

     This is your chance to show your colleagues what ultimate is all about. I know there are already a fair few work based teams out there but it would be great to see some new entries too. Don’t worry if your workmates have never played ultimate before, on the morning of the event we are also running a beginners skills session meaning they can come down and get a comprehensive introduction before battling it out for corporate glory. Beginners day info can be found here - http://www.ukultimate.com/2011/05/07/london_beginners_skills_day_3 The day will run from 1pm and entry will be £50 per team.  Once everything is done and dusted we will be heading to the Bedford for some drinks and prize giving.
