GB Youth Teams

Hello,

My name is Ruth Flight and I am the GB Junior Ultimate Programme Manager- big title, but basically I cover everything to do with the planning and running of the GB junior Programme.

The main bulk of my time is taken up with the planning and running of trials for both the U17 and U20 groups, and then the organisation required to take 90-100 players and approximately 20+ staff away each summer for either European Championships and/or World Championships where ever they may be held.

We at UKU Juniors aim to provide all players and staff with a safe, competitive and fun environment within which they can grow and develop both in their sporting abilities and on a social level, learning to adapt and work within a highly ambitious team setup, whilst having a blast at the same time.

Ultimate is still in general terms a ‘fairly new sport’ within the UK, but it is growing rapidly and juniors is the fastest growing section across the board.  With this in mind we are constantly updating and developing our systems and each year I am in post gives me fresh challenges to overcome and incorporate into our working guidelines.

All our staff are DBS checked by the UKU so you can rest assured that your children/players are in the best of hands.  Our staff are all volunteers and give up their time willingly to help coach and work with the young players, so please bear this in mind if you are waiting on a reply to email etc, they all have ‘normal fulltime jobs’, so it is not always  easy for them to reply quickly, please be patient.

We're currently in the process of updating this section of the website, if ou have any queries please get in touch with us on either rfgbfrisbee@gmail.com or using the contact form and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Kind regards

Ruth Flight

GB Junior Ultimate Programme Manager

GB Youth 2019

10th-17th August 2019 the EUF will be running EYUC in Wroclaw, Poland.

This will most likely be the largest European ultimate championships ever, bigger than EUC, with over 60 teams expected. EYUC will be played on 2 locations: the Pola Marsowe fields around the Olympic stadium that hosted multiple previous Ultimate events and at Olawka fields. There will be 14 natural grass fields and 5 astroturf fields at those locations, and another 5 astroturf fields in reserve.

GB will be competing in both Mens and Womens divisions of the U17 and U20 competitions. Congratulations to the coaches and managers who have been appointed to work with the respective teams.

Trials will be taking place at the beginning of 2019, players can find trials application forms here.

Trials Information

We are looking forward to seeing everyone there!  Whilst we appreciate there is a lot of information below it is really important that players (and  parents/guardians) read it thoroughly and make sure that you bring with you everything that you are asked.

Further to the emails you have already received, please find attached the following 2 consent forms for you/your daughter's GB Junior Ultimate Trial:

You/your parent/guardian must print the two consent forms and complete in full ALL sections with players & or parents/guardian’s signature in ALL requested places.  Please read all of these forms as there is vital information contained within them which you may need to act on prior to you/your daughter attending the GB Junior Trial.

The cost for the Trial is £15.00 per player, payable on the day during your registration.

Please note:  you will NOT be able to trial if you do not have the correct signed paperwork and player fee with you.  This is non-negotiable.

Due to the very high number of applicants this year we have had to adjust the structure slightly to allow each group and player the space to adequately ‘show case’ their talents.  So, the plan for the day is as follows:

U17 WOMEN -– ALAN HIGGS CENTRE, ALLARD WAY, COVENTRY, CV3 1HW

Registration – 12.00-12.45pm – All consent forms and money to be handed over and checked at this point, please arrive in a timely fashion to allow completion of this process.  Obviously, any time wasted means less time for you to impress your coaches!

Your warm up will begin at 1pm sharp and you are expected to have completed registration and be suitably dressed and booted up (NO Metal Studs Permitted) ready to play at 1!

UKU STAFF ARE ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR PLAYERS WHILST THEY ARE TRIALLING!

There is a foyer and café area outside of the dome where the trials will be taking place. Any parents/club coaches/teachers/chaperones are welcome to stay during the trials, however, there is no spectators area so only players and coaches will be permitted into the dome during trials times. There will be no supervision from UKU in the foyer/café area’s during trials, so any players waiting in these areas either pre or post trials are expected to be supervised at all times by a responsible adult.  UKU reserve the right to refuse a trial to any player not behaving in a suitable manner.

POINTS TO NOTE!

  • The hall will be very cold so please layer up well, you can always take layers off if you get too warm, so a lot of thin layers are always good!
  • Players will NOT be permitted to wear any previous years GB Kit, so please do not bring any GB kit with you as you will be asked to remove it.
  • Please wear frisbee shorts (if possible) either on their own or on top of sports leggings as your ID number will be pinned to these during your trial – please bring 4 safety pins with you we will provide numbers!
  • You must bring a light (white preferably) and dark, (preferably red, dark blue or black) top to change into when required.
  • You are not permitted to wear any jewellery, so please remove ALL earrings, piercings, watches, rings etc. as per EUF Rulings.
  • Bring with you at least 2 litres of water/juice/sports drinks and light snacks to pick on
  • Energy drinks such as redbull/monster etc are not permitted at any times with GB!
  • BRING A DISC!! It’s YOUR Ultimate trial so make sure you bring the most vital piece of kit!

The coaches will make an initial cut after the first trial and attendance at the second trial will be strictly by invite only.  You will receive an email within 8-10 days post trial so please do not email before then as the coaches have busy lives and ‘regular day jobs’ and may not be able to respond before this time !

If you know someone who hasn't seen this, then please ask them to get in touch by emailing ruth.flight@ukultimate.com asap!

The second trial in the same location on 3rd March.  Time 10am – 6pm for both women’s teams!

By attending the trial, we are anticipating your commitment to being able to compete at Europeans if you are selected.  If you cannot attend Europeans then please let the coaches know at the end of your trial.  I will contact you to set out the GB plans for the coming months, training sessions etc leading up to the Europeans which will take plan in Wroclaw, Poland from 10th – 17th August, we will leave the UK by luxury coach on the 8th August and return immediately after the finals on 17th.  Timings TBC.

The plan will be to let all players know if they have / have not been successful in selection for the U20s Team approx 8-10 days after the 2nd trial.  At that time, if you wish to accept your place, you will be required to make a £300 non-refundable deposit by 31st March 2019.  Your place on the team will only be confirmed once the deposit has been received.  If the deposit is not received by 31st March then we will assume you no longer wish to accept your place, and the place will be offered to the reserves.

We are looking to ensure that we keep the costs as low as possible but currently the estimate of the whole trip including all travel/food/accommodation etc etc for Poland will be £650-£850.  There will also be costs for kit, training and tour events on top of this and I will confirm exact costs as soon as I have them.

You will be expected to make a monthly payment towards your trip costs, details of which will follow.

We encourage all GB team members to undertake their own fundraising.

If you have any questions or queries regarding any of the above, please do not hesitate to email me and I will be happy to help.

Look forward to seeing you next weekend – and good luck with the trial!
