UKU Regionals - South East

South East Regionals will take place at Wide Lane Sports Ground in Southampton, on Sun 4th August.


The event is open to any ultimate team based in the South East.  Three teams will qualify for UKU Nationals on 24-25 August at the same venue.


The event will be run on a very simple basis (rather like LWL events).  Toilets and changing rooms will be available, but we do not expect to have any food on sale.

This venue is very easy to reach by public transport:

  • Get a train or tube to Putney station (NOT East Putney!!!!) and then exit.
  • Directly outside, is a bus stop where the 85 heads straight to the fields.
  • Get on the 85 and it will head out of Putney and onto the back roads alongside the A3.
  • Stay with the bus until it reaches a T junction with the A3.
  • It will turn right here and then you need to wait until the bus has passed Asda and Texaco on the left and get off by the Roehampton Campus stop.
  • The fields are there on your left.

You can get to Putney quickly from Clapham Junction, Vauxhall, Waterloo and also on the District line.

You should be able to reach the grounds easily from places like Kingston (e.g. using the #85 in the opposite direction) and Wimbledon but please check http://www.tfl.gov.uk/

Driving

You can only get to the fields from the southbound A3.
The turning into the grounds is at the bottom of the hill after Roehampton, just after a large ASDA superstore (on the left) and basically opposite the Robin Hood Gate entrance to Richmond Park.

If you are coming from outside London the simplest route is to use Jn 10 of the M25 which puts you on the A3. Arguably it might be quicker to cross London if coming from the North or West depending on the time of day.

If coming North up the A3 towards London, you will NOT be able to access the fields unless you turn around and head back down the southbound side of the road. To do this, follow the A3 towards London and at the Robin Hood roundabout (A308 to Kingston on your left) head straight on and then take the next left turn, signposted to Putney Vale Cemetery. This will take you under the road and allow you to join the A3 heading south on the other side. Re-join the A3, stay in the left hand lane and then take the left turn which will be sign-posted Richardson Evans.

If you miss the turning, as it's quite possible to do, then don't panic, get in the right hand lane and do another one 180 degree turn at the roundabout and try again!

BUCS Nationals- UKU University Outdoor Nationals and Alumni Cup comes to Nottingham University's Grove Farm.  This is the same venue used for Mixed Tour and Open/Women's Tour in previous years.

As with 2012, we will hold Open Divisions 1 & 2 (16 teams in each), plus a Women's division (24 teams), and the Alumni Cup (16 teams).

The Open Division qualification events occured on the 9-10 March, and normally would create two divisions of 16 teams each.  We had some severe weather problems during regionals, so it is possible that the format of Finals may need adjustment; however we have a maximum limit of 32 open teams.

The Women's division will have a limit of 24 teams and places will be allocated to 1st teams first, and then on first-come, first-served basis.

The Alumni Cup (*) will be limited to 16 teams as in 2012.  Again this is first-come, first-served.

Please note that there is no on-site camping at this venue.  We are looking for bulk cheap (or even free) accommodation for Uni Women's teams.  We may be able to help a small number of Uni Open teams.  We are not able to provide any direct help with accommodation for teams entering the Alumni Cup - sorry.

The Alumni Cup is an annual event for university-alumni teams.

Eligibility:

  • All players in a particular institution's alumni team should be ex-students of that institution. 
  • We will limit each institution to one team unless we have spare places at the tournament.
  • In order to help the Alumni division get off the ground, any team with 10 or fewer
    players is permitted to bring one guest player (no restrictions).
  • Current students NOT competing in the other divisions ARE permitted to play in the Alumni Cup.  It is strongly advised that players do NOT play in the Alumni division in addition to one of the other competitions.

Other Comments:

  • Shirt colours are bound to be difficult. We recommend that all teams bring a backup white shirt to enable games to be played as Light v Dark if all else fails. If you have a better solution that is fine of course.
  • We will take a simpler approach to SOTG in the Alumni division where we ask each team to provide a single vote for their opponents who they believe displayed the best Spirit.
  • In 2012 Leeds University became the first UKU Alumni Cup Champions.  Can you take on the mighty Leeds?

Scottish University Open Outdoor Regionals 2013 is being run by Edinburgh University Ultimate at Peffermill playing fields. A schedule and captains pack will be sent out to teams closer to the time.

We will do our best to fit as many people into houses as possible but unfortunately some teams will have to be in a church hall, which has a £5 per person charge to cover the costs of hire, this will be collected on the day you arrive. We will let you know in advance what accommodation has been allocated to each team.

You are required to provide your own transport to the accommodation and venue.

Details about the Saturday night social will also be sent to team contacts once entry is confirmed.
