UKU Mixed Tour 1 2017

Submitted by jphall on Tue, 24/01/2017 - 12:41pm
Event date:
1 Apr 2017 (All day) - 2 Apr 2017 (All day)
Event details:

As per previous years this years Mixed Tour 1 will be held at Llanrumney Fields in Cardiff.

Deadline for payment is now closed. If you withdraw you will not be eligible for a refund of your team fee.

Schedule can be found here: https://goo.gl/aTTKDb (Pitch map can be found below)

Please submit your spirit and game scores here: https://goo.gl/SHPu2E

Venue - There will be food available as per normal and the usual changing/showering facilities will also be available.

Result & Spirit reporting - We will yet again be implementing a paperless system. After every game please head to the form (link to follow) and submit your game and spirit score for your opposition. In the unlikely event that no one in your team has a smartphone/device you will be able to do this at the TD desk as a last resort.

Water - As per the UKU's water policy we will be providing each team with 3 x 5L full water containers on arrival as per last year. It is then the teams responsibility to ensure there are filled from the clubhouse between game slots.

To collect your water please report to the TD desk on arrival. Any water not collected on Saturday will be distributed on a first come first serve basis on Sunday.

Pitches - Where possible we are aiming for 5m between pitches. Where this has not been possible please ensure that you use common sense when looking where to store bags etc. This year line markings will be in blue to save confusion over other markings around the pitches.

Hooters - Games start and cap will be signalled using hooters. All games will be signalled by one long blast (under the current schedule format).

Warm ups - Where possible please run your warm ups off the pitches to ensure they stay in the best condition for the games.

Keep up to date - Follow @MT1TD for up-to date info or use the hashtag #UKUMT1 .

Physio & First Aid - There will be 2 physios on site to deal with any injuries incurred during the tournament. Please note they are not there to help with pre-existing injuries. There will also be 2 first aiders on site located in or around their ambulance. The nearest hospital can be found here - http://goo.gl/ES4NVw

Camping - Unfortunately there will be no onsite parking this year. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Parking - As per previous years if you are parking at the fields the venue staff reserve the right to charge for parking (approx. £1 per car per day). Please note once the fields close on Saturday evening, you will not have access to your vehicle.

UKU U17 & U14 Open Indoor Nationals 2016-17

Submitted by benheywood on Thu, 11/08/2016 - 11:38am
Event date:
28 Jan 2017 (All day) - 29 Jan 2017 (All day)
Event details:

The UKU Under-17 and Under-14 Open Indoor Championships 2015-16 will be held at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton (WV6 9NW) on the weekend of Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th January 2017.

We're once again at the excellent and centrally located Aldersley facility, and this year we have secured 2 pitches in the main sports hall (hardcourt surface; indoor trainers required) and 3 in the nearby dome (artificial grass surface; trainers or short studs are fine). This should give us plenty of room for all who wish to enter!

Please note that unlike many other sports, Ultimate tournaments are always played out for position all the way down - so even teams ranked e.g. 17th-24th in their division will still play a Quarter, Semi and Final in their bracket. Even the most inexperienced team will still expect to play the same number of games as the winners - you don't get knocked out early at these events! Come and join in the fun.

Eligibility
There is no qualifying round, and no 'minimum standard' that your team must meet - there will certainly be teams of beginners participating. If you are a newly formed school team, you are very, very much invited!

To be eligible for this UKU under-17 division you must be in Year 11 or below (the rules for UK Domestic competition differ slightly to International competition).

To be eligible for the under-14 division you must be in Year 8 or below.

As the tournament is Open, there are no gender restrictions - all-male teams, or all-female teams, or anything in between, are absolutely fine.

Please contact Joe Wyatt (joewyatt7[at]gmail.com) if there are any queries.

If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation to the Junior Forum (email to: joewyatt7[at]gmail.com is sufficient) and have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with.

Please also note that eligibilty decisions are made by volunteers - we're keen to help out, but do make sure to get your requests in early to make that easier.

Entry

Entry is now open for this event (through the UKU Entry Form) and will provisionally close on Monday 12th December. We do very much expect that we will still have places remaining after that date so it is certainly worth getting in touch if you have left it late - but for those teams who enter promptly we would like to be able to confirm their places before Christmas so that they can start to make some arrangements for the trip. After that date, it will simply be first come first served.

If the tournament is oversubscribed at the closing date (unlikely, but you never know) we will prioritise first teams from each institution, and then second teams above third teams etc all the way down. If the cut-off happens to fall between teams at the same level (e.g. 4th teams from two institutions) then priority will go to whoever entered on the earliest date (or be decided by the drawing of lots if we can't separate them by date). Once the initial deadline has passed, places are confirmed, and the entry of a new first team will not 'bump' someone's 7th team anymore - it's literally first come first served at that stage for any remaining places.

Please note that while we do not demand payment in order to secure your spot (we are aware how slow the payment process can be at some institutions) any team who is entered as of the closing date should consider themselves committed to payment even if they subsequently drop out. Obviously if circumstances are very much out of your control then we may make an exception, but in general when we allocate you a spot without pre-payment we must trust that you will pay at some point - otherwise we would just have a situation where everyone entered 12 teams and then withdrew whatever they didn't want. Any entry is normally considered binding if you have not withdrawn it BEFORE the closing date (unless, of course, you don't get a place due to oversubscription - we won't charge you for that!).

Accommodation

Hopefully the central location will mean that the majority of teams might be able to travel home rather than needing accommodation on the Saturday night, but for some of you that clearly won't be possible. Places like www.travelodge.co.uk (and there are a number around the motorways or Wolverhampton!) often have good deals, and there are a smattering of Youth Hostels nearby (www.yha.org.uk).

If you are really struggling for accommodation, please get in touch on benji.heywood[at]ukultimate.com and we will do what we can to assist with suggestions, but we do not offer accommodation as part of the tournament.

UKU Junior (U20) Open Indoor Nationals 2016-17

Submitted by benheywood on Thu, 11/08/2016 - 11:21am
Event date:
25 Feb 2017 (All day) - 26 Feb 2017 (All day)
Event details:

The UKU Junior (U20) Open Indoor Championships 2016-17 will be held at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton (WV6 9NW). There are 4 halls all under one roof and there is balcony space and a cafe/bar onsite, as well as supermarkets nearby.

The schedule and Info Pack are now available below.

Eligibility

There is no qualifying round, and no 'minimum standard' that your team must meet - there will certainly be teams of beginners participating. If you are a newly formed school team, you are very, very much invited!

As per the UKU Junior eligibility rules, to be eligible for this UKU under-20 division you must have been born on or after January 1st 1998.

Please contact Junior Coordinator Joe Wyatt (joewyatt7[at]gmail.com) if there are any queries.

If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team locally, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation to the Junior Forum (email to: joewyatt7[at]gmail.com is sufficient) and have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. It is NOT appropriate for teams to be formed from friends all over the country (e.g. GB players) without checking with the Junior coordinator.

Please also note that eligibilty decisions are made by volunteers - we're keen to help out, but do make sure to get your requests in early to make that easier.

Entry

Entry is now open for this event (through the UKU Entry Form) and will provisionally close on Tuesday 24th January. Other info

Please note: Clubs are welcome to enter more than one team, but in the event that the tournament is oversubscribed clubs entering multiple teams may find lower-ranked teams placed on a waiting list. However, the tournament has a large capacity and this is relatively unlikely based on previous years' entries.

Essential: Do not enter a team unless you have AT LEAST 7 fit players who are able to travel.

Advisable: Have at least one non-playing adult with the team, in case they need to accompany injured players to hospital or similar.

UKU Juniors & Schools Women's Indoor Nationals 2016-17

Submitted by benheywood on Thu, 11/08/2016 - 11:13am
Event date:
6 Nov 2016 - 10:00 - 17:30
Event details:

UKU Juniors & Schools Women's Indoor Nationals will be held this year at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton. It will be a one day event on Sunday 6th November (approx 10am-5pm) on at least 3 pitches. We will run competitions in 3 different age brackets - U20, U17 and U14 - and we will have space for at least 24 teams total.

Entry into the tournament will cost £65 per team.  Payment will be made directly to UK Ultimate.  In order to secure a place in the tournament, please fill in the form here:

http://www.ukultimate.com/event_entry_form

Please note that the initial deadline for entries will be Thursday 6th October. The deadline is relatively early (4 weeks from the tournament) in order that we can confirm who has a spot in plenty of time to organise your transport etc.

Before this deadline, priority will go to 1st teams from each institution. At this deadline, remaining available spaces in the tournament may be allocated to second and third teams. If you would like to enter more than one team per age group, please be aware that they may not all get in (and won't be confirmed until after the closing date). With the larger 3-pitch tournament, we do hope to accommodate all the teams who wish to participate, but we can't guarantee it until after that date.

It is possible that there will be room available after the closing date, and we will allow more teams to enter if that's the case. The big difference will be that you won't get priority over someone else's third team any more!

If you have a small number of players but not enough for a full team (or enough for 1 but not quite enough for 2), please get in touch because it's likely that others will be in the same position and we could combine players so that more girls get to take part. Of course, all combined teams must be approved by UKU to prevent deliberate super-teams forming, so do please contact Junior coordinator Joe Wyatt on joewyatt7[at]gmail.com to discuss.

Eligibility:

There is no qualifying round, and no 'minimum standard' that your team must meet. If you are a newly formed school team, you are very, very much invited!

Lots of new institutions have joined UK Ultimate over the past 12 months, and we'd be delighted if as many as possible could make it to this tournament. There will be a very large range of abilities, with many teams of complete beginners, so do not feel intimidated by the 'Nationals' designation - it's open to everyone and everyone will have a great time.

As per the UKU Junior eligibility rules, to be eligible for the UKU under-20 division you must have been born on or after January 1st 1997.

To be eligible for the U17 division, you must be in Year 11 or below.

To be eligible for the U14 division, you must normally be in Year 8 or below, but for this tournament so early in the school year we are happy for younger Year 9s (i.e. those with birthdays from January-August) to play in the Y8 division also.

Where possible teams should be made up of girls from a single club / school / organisation but where that is not possible, the first option should usually be to pick up for the most local team.  If you want to play for a team that is not your school team, please get in touch with joewyatt7[at]gmail.com and we will do what we can to make sure that this is done fairly.

Multiple teams:
Places will initially be reserved for first teams. Any additional teams will be placed on a waiting list.  These teams will be given spaces if they are still available after the initial deadline, with priority going to second teams, then third teams if appropriate. For teams at the same level places will be distributed on a first come first served basis - i.e. second team spots go to the earliest second teams to enter, and third team spots to the earliest third teams to enter, but that does NOT mean that an early third team goes ahead of someone else's second team.

Other info:

Do not enter a team unless you have AT LEAST 7 fit players who are able to travel.

Have at least one non-playing adult with the team, in case they need to accompany injured players to hospital or similar (strongly advised for U20s, obviously a necessity for younger age groups!).

UKU Club Mixed Indoor Nationals 2016/17

Submitted by benheywood on Mon, 25/07/2016 - 11:11am
Event date:
4 Mar 2017 (All day) - 5 Mar 2017 (All day)
Event details:

CXIN 2016-17 will be held on these dates at the excellent new Derby Arena (DE24 8AN).

They have 3 excellent courts set up in the infield of the velodrome, so it will be exciting to see all the cyclists whizzing by (but rest assured there is floor to ceiling netting to protect them from your errant throws). As befits a brand new venue like this, the facilities are excellent, and there's loads of chill-out space in the spectator seating for the velodrome. It's going to be fantastic, and located very nicely in the centre of the country.

There will be space for at least 24 teams.

The tournament will be Indoor Mixed, requiring a 3/2 gender split at all times. We are currently discussing whether to apply the new WFDF gender rules from the 2017 update (endzone decides ratio, rather than offence decides ratio) although all other rules will be in line with the 2013 UKU indoor rules. Please make sure you have enough of each gender!

Games will run from around 9am-5pm each day, though if demand is very high we MAY look to extend the saturday.

Registration is now open through the UKU Entry Form. Your place is reserved only when you have both entered AND paid. Teams who are unsuccessful in entering will of course be refunded.

The closing date will be Friday 9th Feb 2016, early enough to give those teams who are successful time to plan their logistics. If spaces remain after that date, we will of course continue to accept entries on a first come first served basis providing that doing so does not adversely affect the schedule for other teams - but we will be able to confirm places for entered teams at that time.

NOTE however that unless you finished highly at the same event last year, beating the closing date does not guarantee you a space. There is likely to be a large element of first-come-first-served in who gets in, as per that fourth criterion below - please read the entry rules properly. This particular tournament does tend to fill quickly.

We expect to have space for 24 teams. If the event is oversubscribed at the closing date, the method for determining entrants is below.

The venue is a normal hardcourt indoor surface - you will need clean. non-marking indoor footwear.

We do not expect to provide accommodation at this tournament. Please get in touch if this is a major problem for you, but we are unlikely to be able to help you much beyond putting you in touch with local players who MAY be able to help.

For tournaments that are over-subscribed at the closing date the following rules will apply, in order

·         Teams not on the blacklist (for late dropouts at previous events) will get priority over those who are

·         Teams finishing in the top half of the same event in the previous year will be given priority.

·         First teams will NOT get priority over second teams - it is so easy to simply change the name of a 'second team' to avoid such a rule, which would disadvantage those 'proper' clubs who have a real identity.

·         Teams will be awarded spaces based on the order of DATE (not exact time) that payment was sent. This will be assumed to be the date payment was received unless there is additional information (e.g. screenshot of transfer, postmark on stamp etc.)

If there remain too many teams - which cannot be separated by the above - for the remaining places, a lottery will be run for ONLY those inseparable teams, for those places.

UKU Club Open & Women's Indoor Nationals 2016/17

18 Feb 2017 (All day) - 19 Feb 2017 (All day)
Event details:

Ravenscraig: UMWIN 2015/16 in progress at the enormous Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility

UMWIN 2015/16 in progress at Ravenscraig in a 6-pitch configuration.

COWIN 2016/17 will be held on this date at the frankly incredible Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility near Motherwell.
(1 O'Donnell Way, Wishaw, Motherwell ML1 2TZ)

The venue boasts a 105x68m indoor 3G football pitch, with all the amenities you could ask for - bleacher seating down one side, balcony, cafe etc. They even thought to have that huge window you see above be north-facing and away from the sun...

We will run this event on 4 pitches, each a full 40x20m, and each with at least 5m clearance on all sides.

Really, there is no venue like this in the whole of England that we can currently access, so the trip to Scotland (approx 4.5 hours from Birmingham, as an example) is well worth it.

The venue hosted University Indoor Nationals this year, and extensive feedback showed that on average (and not even including the feedback from Scottish teams!) people would happily travel to this venue for that event every two years (and indeed they're going to, as we just booked it for UMWIN 2018). Many teams even from 7 or 8 hours away said they would be happy to come every year.

That student event had 6 pitches of around 36x18m as shown above, so this one with only 4 big pitches and ample surrounding space will be even better. If you don't live in Scotland, you've probably never seen indoors like this before.

We will write the schedule with a long saturday (9am-9pm, split in half so that no team plays all day) and a shorter sunday, with the intention of getting everyone on the road south by around 3-4pm.

We hope to provide SOME floor-space accommodation for teams who really need it; please only ask if you really have no other option!

Entries are now open for the Women's event, through the UKU Entry Form, and will cost £130. The initial closing date will be 9th December 2016, at which time we'll be able to confirm places for entered teams such that they can plan their transport etc. Any spaces remaining after that will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

We do not require payment upfront in order to secure your spot, but any team still on the list as of that closing date will be liable for at least 50% of the fees even if they later drop out, and any team still signed up 28 days before the event (21st Jan 2017) will be expected to pay in full (the 'main contact' from the entry form will be held responsible if there is no formal club that we can chase for the fees!). This is much more strict than usual, of course, but we feel it is very important for any replacement teams, who fill your spot, to have sufficient time to organise their travel. It's obviously not fair to take up a space that someone else might want but then to dropout too late for them to fill it! Do make sure you have a team and a robust plan before you commit.

If the event is over-subscribed at the closing date the following rules will apply, in order

·         Teams will be awarded spaces based on the order of DATE (not exact time) that they entered.

If there remain too many teams - which cannot be separated by the above - for the remaining places, a lottery will be run for ONLY those inseparable teams, for those places.

Entries are now also requested for the Open division and will cost £130. The closing date will be Thursday 2nd February.

We do not require payment upfront in order to secure your spot, but any team still on the list as of that closing date will be expected to pay in full (the 'main contact' from the entry form will be held responsible if there is no formal club that we can chase for the fees!).

Entries are encouraged from all teams who attended regionals, regardless of finishing position, as we do anticipate that some higher finishing teams will struggle to arrange travel. The top 6 from any of the four regionals are guaranteed entry if they fill the form before the closing date, and other successful teams will have their places confirmed after the deadline.

UKU/BUCS Indoors Entry Rules

BUCS Regionals (Open/Women - see additional rules for Mixed below)

The closing date and payment date will be as announced by BUCS (to your Uni) and on our UKU event pages. BUCS will no longer accept late entries this year. It may be possible for us to institute a second round of entries after the first deadline has passed if the tournaments are undersubscribed, but these will be charged (by BUCS) at 20% over the initial price - and we cannot in any way guarantee to make space for teams who have missed the BUCS deadlines. Don't mess this up!

For tournaments that are over-subscribed at the closing date the following rules will apply, in order:

·         First teams will get priority over second teams, and second over third etc.

·         If there is insufficient room for all first teams, places will be awarded in the following order:

o   First teams finishing in the top half of the previous year’s tournament

o   First teams who didn’t enter the previous year’s tournament

o   Remaining first teams in order of their finishing position last year

·         If there are spaces remaining after all first teams have been awarded a space, second teams will be offered places in an order based on finishing position last year, and then third teams and so on

o   Second teams with no finishing position from last year will have a lower priority than those who attended – but still above all third teams (and so on)

If the cut-off happens to fall between 2 or more teams with no finishing position from last year, a lottery will be run between those teams to determine entry.

BUCS Nationals

The closing date and payment date will be as announced by BUCS. Entry is guaranteed for all qualifying teams provided they meet this deadline.

Should any teams fail to take up their spots, the places will be filled by the next-ranked team from one of the qualifying tournaments, with priority among regions determined according to the following (in order):

1.       The region(s) not yet offered an extra place under this process which had the fewest qualification spots originally

2.       The region from which the team dropped out

3.       The strongest regions, i.e.

a.       for Division 1, the region with the highest-ranked relegated team last year – but note that rule 1 means we ignore teams from regions already awarded a dropout-spot.

b.      for Division 2, the region with the highest average finishing position in Division 2 the previous year

c.       for Women’s, the region with the highest average finishing position last year.

4.       A lottery between regions that cannot be separated by the above

Mixed

Rules will be the same as for BUCS tournaments, with the following additions:

Late entries may be accepted, providing that they improve the schedule for others. We will not allow late entries which make the numbers worse.

·         Single-institution teams at a given level (e.g. 1st, 2nd etc) will have priority entry at regionals over any teams at the same level who have players from more than one institution.

·         UKU reserve the right to move clubs to a blacklist if any of their teams default from any UKU University tournament at late notice.

o   Blacklisted 1st teams will only get into non-BUCS tournaments if there is space for all 1st teams; 2nd/3rd/4th teams from blacklisted clubs will only get a space if the tournament is undersubscribed – i.e. someone else’s 4th team will get in ahead of your 2nd team.

Qualifying Spots

Women
North 6 (down one from 2015)
East 4
Scotland 6 (up one from 2015)
West 4

Which region are we in?

Please note that your region is not necessarily related to where your Men's team plays in the Outdoor leagues. We have 7 indoor regions (combined into 4 larger regions for Women's), which do not tally with the 5 Outdoor Men's regions. Check carefully!

This list should now contain all the Unis - if your team is missing please do let us know and we'll update it!

Registration is through BUCS and through your Uni, and is now open. Go and ask your AU staff to enter you. Closing date is 3rd November. UK Ultimate CANNOT enter you, and we cannot necessarily help if you miss the deadline. Get on it!

SOUTH EAST ONLY - UKU/BUCS University Men's Indoor Regionals 2016/17

Submitted by benheywood on Mon, 25/07/2016 - 9:29am
Event date:
5 Nov 2016 (All day) - 6 Nov 2016 (All day)
Event details:

UMIR for the South East region ONLY will be held on this date, at the Triangle, Burgess Hill, due to difficulties locating a venue on the main UMIR weekend. The other 6 regional events take place on the 12/13 November.

The venue surface is a traditional sports hall (hard court).

Entries are now open, and must be made through BUCS, not through UKU. Your University staff will have to enter you, as only they have access to the BUCS system. Go and see your AU staff ASAP and get your entries in - late entries have no guarantee of being accepted, even if it's something that appears not to be your fault (like staff not being in the office when you try and enter 10 mins before the deadline...). Get it sorted!

http://www.bucs.org.uk/page.asp?section=9499&sectionTitle=Indoor%20Regional%20Qualifiers

The closing date is Thursday 20th October.

We are pleased to now release the Info Pack  - https://goo.gl/tbvyOe

And we can also now confirm the schedule - https://goo.gl/Qvcfsb

(Insofar as any schedule can ever be completely confirmed!)

The online schedule will be updated throughout the weekend of course, and there is a pdf attached below if you want a printed copy.

Men's (Div 1 + Div 2) (Change from last year)
Scotland & Northern Ireland - 5 + 2
North East & North West - 3 + 2
Yorkshire & East Midlands - 2 + 3 (losing one Div 1 spot)
East & London - 3 + 2 (gaining one Div 1 spot)
South East - 2 + 2
South West- 2 + 2
West Midlands & Wales - 3 + 3

Which region are we in?

Please note that your region is not necessarily related to where your Men's team plays in the Outdoor leagues. We have 7 indoor regions (combined into 4 larger regions for Women's), which do not tally with the 5 Outdoor Men's regions. Check carefully!

This list should now contain all the Unis - if your team is missing please do let us know and we'll update it!
