Event date:
12 Nov 2016 (All day) - 13 Nov 2016 (All day)
Event details:

UMIR 2016 will be held on this weekend in SIX locations - note that for the SE region the tournament is the week before.

These are expected to be:

Scotland: Ravenscraig, Motherwell. 3G surface.

North: Sport Central, Newcastle. Hard court.

Yorks & East Mids: The Edge, Leeds. Hard court.

West Mids & Wales: Alan Higgs Centre, Coventry. 3G surface.

SE: See event for 5/6 November

East & London: Herts Sports Village, Hatfield. Hard court.

More venue details, including the playing surface, expected times of play, and full venue addresses, can be found here: http://goo.gl/x2u5EI

Entries are now open, and must be made through BUCS, not through UKU. Your University staff will have to enter you, as only they have access to the BUCS system. Go and see your AU staff ASAP and get your entries in - late entries have no guarantee of being accepted, even if it's something that appears not to be your fault (like staff not being in the office when you try and enter 10 mins before the deadline...). Get it sorted!

UKU/BUCS Indoors Entry Rules

BUCS Regionals (Open/Women - see additional rules for Mixed below)

The closing date and payment date will be as announced by BUCS (to your Uni) and on our UKU event pages. BUCS will no longer accept late entries this year. It may be possible for us to institute a second round of entries after the first deadline has passed if the tournaments are undersubscribed, but these will be charged (by BUCS) at 20% over the initial price - and we cannot in any way guarantee to make space for teams who have missed the BUCS deadlines. Don't mess this up!

For tournaments that are over-subscribed at the closing date the following rules will apply, in order:

·         First teams will get priority over second teams, and second over third etc.

·         If there is insufficient room for all first teams, places will be awarded in the following order:

o   First teams finishing in the top half of the previous year’s tournament

o   First teams who didn’t enter the previous year’s tournament

o   Remaining first teams in order of their finishing position last year

·         If there are spaces remaining after all first teams have been awarded a space, second teams will be offered places in an order based on finishing position last year, and then third teams and so on

o   Second teams with no finishing position from last year will have a lower priority than those who attended – but still above all third teams (and so on)

If the cut-off happens to fall between 2 or more teams with no finishing position from last year, a lottery will be run between those teams to determine entry.

BUCS Nationals

The closing date and payment date will be as announced by BUCS. Entry is guaranteed for all qualifying teams provided they meet this deadline.

Should any teams fail to take up their spots, the places will be filled by the next-ranked team from one of the qualifying tournaments, with priority among regions determined according to the following (in order):

1.       The region(s) not yet offered an extra place under this process which had the fewest qualification spots originally

2.       The region from which the team dropped out

3.       The strongest regions, i.e.

a.       for Division 1, the region with the highest-ranked relegated team last year – but note that rule 1 means we ignore teams from regions already awarded a dropout-spot.

b.      for Division 2, the region with the highest average finishing position in Division 2 the previous year

c.       for Women’s, the region with the highest average finishing position last year.

4.       A lottery between regions that cannot be separated by the above

Mixed

Rules will be the same as for BUCS tournaments, with the following additions:

Late entries may be accepted, providing that they improve the schedule for others. We will not allow late entries which make the numbers worse.

·         Single-institution teams at a given level (e.g. 1st, 2nd etc) will have priority entry at regionals over any teams at the same level who have players from more than one institution.

·         UKU reserve the right to move clubs to a blacklist if any of their teams default from any UKU University tournament at late notice.

o   Blacklisted 1st teams will only get into non-BUCS tournaments if there is space for all 1st teams; 2nd/3rd/4th teams from blacklisted clubs will only get a space if the tournament is undersubscribed – i.e. someone else’s 4th team will get in ahead of your 2nd team.

UKU Open & Women's Tour 2 2016

Submitted by ukuadmin on Fri, 08/07/2016 - 2:25am
Event date:
9 Jul 2016 (All day) - 10 Jul 2016 (All day)
Event details:

UKU OWT2 returns once again to Grove Farm, Nottingham. This is the same venue as used for OWT1 2015.  The venue doesn’t have its own postcode, but NG7 2SA will get you onto the right entry road.

After some significant work on the site, there are now two shiny new changing blocks, and even more pitches - well over 30, if we need them - so we really do expect to cater for every single team that wishes to enter! That doesn't mean we'll necessarily accept very late entries, as plans will have been made by then - so do make sure to meet the deadlines if you can.

The closing date (and payment date) for this event will be FIVE weeks in advance - Friday 3rd June 2016. (If you're wondering, we'll be too busy with Worlds to handle anything for the few weeks after that date so we need to get entries largely sorted nice and early.) After this date, places will be awarded. Places MAY still be available later on a first-come first-served basis if the tournament is under-subscribed, and if the additional team(s) would not adversely affect the schedule, but no team - no matter how strong - would be guaranteed entry.

Please note also that teams who pull out after the closing date will be liable for 50% of the fees, and those who pull out in the last fortnight (after 24th June) will be liable for the full team fee.

Late entries will be charged an additional £30 fine - we do expect to be able to find room for as many teams as needed, but we certainly don't want to encourage everyone to enter late either!

Transport

Nottingham is roughly 2.5, 3 and 5 hours drive from London, Cardiff and Edinburgh, respectively, with 80% of the UK within 2 hours’ reach of the city.
Nottingham is best accessed from the M1 for the majority of the country, or via the M5 & M42 for those travelling from the West. Whether taking the M1 for long distances, or joining it at the end of the M42 or M6, your best bet is to exit at Junction 24 (regardless of being Southbound or Northbound), onto the A453.

Follow this road along the River Trent for around 10 miles, before reaching the A52 (Clifton Boulevard), take this until a roundabout, taking the first exit onto Lenton Lane.

Stay on Lenton Lane right to the end, where staff will guide you to the parking area.

Note that Lenton Lane is single track, and if you come out again at busy times (or if a taxi drops you off and leaves) you will cause major headaches. Please try to take that inco account! Taxis should drop off at the Powerleague facility (Thane Rd, Nottingham NG7 2TG) which backs on to the other side of the pitches, and there is a cut-through to get you on to the site.

The Riverside Golf Centre is not part of the Tour venue.

UKU Junior (U20) Outdoor Nationals and Schools National Championships 2015-16

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 19/02/2016 - 5:21pm
Event date:
2 Jul 2016 (All day) - 3 Jul 2016 (All day)
Event details:

We are pleased to announce that UKU Junior Outdoor Nationals will return to the excellent (and centrally located) Pavilion, Moor Lane, Birmingham B6 7AA.

UKU Schools National Championship Finals are a 1-day, 5-a-side event on the Saturday only (approx 10am-5pm), whereas Junior Nationals is a 2 day, full-pitch 7-a-side event.

All events are Open divisions (i.e. no restrictions on gender) - there's nothing to prevent either an all-male or all-female team, or anywhere in between. A large percentage of teams will be mixed gender, so bring whatever mix of players you like!

Note that for those schools teams who wish to play both days (for example if a school also has a team in the U20s and wish to share transport), we are able to add some school teams (or combinations of school teams if preferred) to the lower bracket of the Junior schedule on the Sunday, where in previous years they have generally found a very suitable level of competition.

We've had a very large number of new schools join us recently - which is great!. We are of course aware that it can be tricky to organise logistics for something like this, but we'd love to have as many of you there as possible, so do please get in touch on the email below with any questions at all and we'll do what we can to help you make it happen.

And don't miss the closing date - 3rd June!

JUNIOR NATIONALS

Player Eligibility: Born on or after 1st Jan 1997

Membership/Affiliation requirements:

Players playing for UKU-affiliated schools playing as school teams are not required to have membership.

All other players must have minimum Basic Membership of UK Ultimate.

Team sizes and planning:

Clubs must ensure that they have appropriate levels of adult supervision in place for the event.

Based on past experience please note that you should not enter a team unless you have at least 10 fit players able to travel.

We also strongly recommend that teams plan to have a non-playing adult travelling with the team.   There have been instances where small teams have had an injury, and a second player has had to accompany the injured player to hospital, leaving behind a team that is too small to continue.  This not only spoils the tournament for the team concerned, but also for their opposition who have travelled and paid to play games, only to find they have a walkover - not ideal for anyone.

Need a team?
If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation by emailing admin[at]ukultimate.com and have UKU ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. Where possible, players are linked up with players from a similar geographical area.

Multiple-teams:

Clubs are welcome to enter more than one team, but in the event that the tournament becomes oversubscribed, clubs entering multiple additional teams may find lower ranked teams placed on a waiting list.

UKU SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS

Player Eligibility: We expect to run 2 divisions.

For the Y11 Division, all players must be in Year 11 or lower.

For the Y8 Division, all players must be in Year 8 or lower.

Team Eligibility:

All teams must be strictly school teams.  In the future we expect all teams will have to qualify through local qualification events.  For the time being, all school teams that wish to enter will be considered eligible.

Given that we are still not at the stage of having numerous regional qualifiers, for now we WILL accept multiple entries from one school (only if there is room of course - priority always given to 1st teams). This should NOT be taken to mean that this will always be possible in the future, but for now we see no benefit in turning teams away.

Membership/Affiliation requirements:

Players do not need individual membership provided the school is UKU-affiliated. Please contact admin[at]ukultimate.com for more information on Schools Affiliation.

Team sizes and planning:

RULES: Please remember this is a 5-a-side competition played to the “UKU-Schools” adapted rules with smaller playing area, and relatively short games.  Exact game-lengths and tournament format will depend on the number of teams that enter.
For more information please look here: http://www.ukultimate.com/uku-schools

Contact email:

benji.heywood@ukultimate.com

Price:
£135 Juniors, £70 Schools
How to register:

Through the UKU Entry Form.

Entries are open now, and there is a closing date of 3rd June (4 weeks before the event) after which we will confirm the teams who have been awarded a place. If places remain after that date, then we will of course still accept entries, but it is nevertheless important that we do have a defined date at which teams know they can definitely book travel for their 2nd/3rd/4th teams.

If oversubscribed, priority will go to first teams, and then to 2nd ahead of 3rd, and so on; should the cut off fall between teams at the same level, then the results of last year will be used to rank the teams on the bubble. If that does not provide an answer, we will draw lots.

We understand that you may not have complete control over the financial procedures at your institution, so the 3rd June is not a payment deadline - but teams who pull out after that date may still be charged. Being signed up at that time is a firm commitment to play, and to pay.

Accomodation and transport:

The last time we used this venue, we offered camping on site but it was not required by any of the teams. We therefore do not at this time intend to offer it this year. Please do get in touch ASAP if camping would be your only option - we're happy to try and set something up, if a few teams are interested - but don't leave it until the last minute and assume we'll still be able to find a solution!

UPDATE - as mentioned below, this event is very likely to be oversubscribed. NOT ALL TEAMS WILL GET IN. It seems some teams have missed this info (which was also in the news story announcing entries opening) - we apologise for not making it more prominent. But you should NOT be booking your hotels and transport until you know you have a spot.

Price:
£195
How to register:

Through the UKU Entry Form.

The team fee is £195. There is no player fee.

The closing date and payment date will be 14 days in advance of the event - Friday 13th May. This is the date for both entry AND payment - filling the form is not sufficient to get you a spot.

After this date, places will be awarded. Places may still be available later on a first-come first-served basis if space remains, but that is unlikely this year. We are expecting slightly fewer pitches than last year due to some changes at the venue, so we do expect to be oversubscribed - get your entries in on time!

Please note also that teams who pull out after the closing date will be liable for the full team fee.

In the event of oversubscription, the UKU Competitions Committee will determine entries. We are currently reviewing the rules for how we allocate spaces, based on some difficulties that we discovered at Mixed Tour 2. We will endeavour to publish clear rules in advance of the closing date, but we also don't want to rush that discussion and make a bad rule - so it remains possible that we will apply the existing rules and then make adjustments at the discretion of the Director of Competitions where the existing rules result in an unfair situation. The existing rules for the Open division are:

In the event that Tour 1 is oversubscribed at the closing date, the UKU
Competitions Committee will determine entry. Priority will be given as follows:
- Teams ranked in the top 32 of the previous year’s tour overall.
- New teams, foreign teams, teams representing GB or much-changed teams believed
likely by the competitions committee (based on e.g. known personnel or early season
results) to finish in the top 24.
- Teams whose participation the UKU Competitions Committee believe will benefit the
growth of Ultimate – for example, but not limited to, local teams who may not yet be
ready to travel to other tournaments, or teams based in underrepresented
geographical areas.
- Remaining teams, in order of their total tour points from the previous year.
- Teams with no record from the previous year will be below those with a ranking, and
will be separated by drawing lots should the need arise.

And for the Women's division:

In 2016 we intend to allow all teams to enter provided they do so before the
deadline. If that number exceeds 24 teams, we may move to a system where places are
allocated as follows:
- Teams ranked in the top 12 of the previous year overall.
- Foreign teams believed likely by the competitions committee to finish in the top 8.
- Teams whose participation the UKU Competitions Committee believe will benefit the
growth of Ultimate – for example, but not limited to, local teams who may not yet be
ready to travel to other tournaments, or teams based in underrepresented
geographical areas.
- Remaining teams, in order of their finish at the previous tournament

That last line of the Women's criteria is clearly insufficient as it is unable to give an answer if there are multiple new teams at the cut-off. We're working on tightening these up!

Apologies for opening entries quite late this year - we really had to be sure we could make it work so close to Worlds at the same venue. But we're all set now, and it's going to be amazing!

Accomodation and transport:

Camping on site will be available for all who need it for £10 per tent, as in previous years. There will be plenty of space for all who need it. Pay in cash at the event - all very very simple. But if you haven't paid by Saturday evening, don't be surprised when someone wakes you early on Sunday morning to make sure we get the cash before you take your tent down!

Note - you will NOT be able to camp on Sunday night (a couple of Irish/European teams have sometimes done in the past). Just FYI!

Traveling by car:

The easiest way to get to the fields is to drive. The postcode for sat navs is AL2 1BZ.

Directions are to come off at Jn 22 of the M25.

From the West:

- At the 1st Roundabout take the 5th exit signposted for Radlett / South Mimms (B556)

- At the 2nd Roundabout take the 3rd exit signposted for Radlett (B556)

- Go straight over the 2nd roundabout and take the first left in to the UCL Sport Ground.

- Signposted for the UCL / Watford FC Training Ground.

From the East
:

- At the 1st Roundabout take the 2nd exit signposted Radlett (B556)

- Go straight over the 2nd roundabout and take the first left in to the UCL Sport Ground.

Please follow directions and instructions for parking as we have a lot of cars to park in a limited space. Your co-operation is as always very much appreciated.

If anyone needs more help with transport options, do get in touch - particularly any international teams who need advice on airports etc.

UKU/BUCS Uni Men's & Women's Outdoor Nationals & Alumni Cup 2015-16

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 18/12/2015 - 4:21pm
Event date:
16 Apr 2016 (All day) - 17 Apr 2016 (All day)
Event details:

UKU/BUCS University Men's & Women's Outdoor Nationals will be held on this date at Nottingham University's Grove Farm venue.

The venue doesn’t have its own postcode, but NG7 2SA will get you onto the right entry road. Follow it all the way to the end, even though it looks like it doesn't go anywhere much.

You can now access the Schedule and Info Pack as pdfs below. Additionally, the online schedule will update throughout the weekend, for those following remotely, and can be found here: http://goo.gl/dSvQez

This year we plan to host an amazing six divisions:

Men's UKU/BUCS Championships (a.k.a Division 1, 16 teams)

Men's UKU/BUCS Trophy (a.k.a Division 2, 14 teams)

Men's UKU/BUCS Conference Cup Finals (a.k.a. Division 3, 10 teams)

Women's UKU/BUCS Championships (a.k.a. Division 1, 16 teams)

Women's UKU/BUCS Division 2 (No BUCS points available, but still a BUCS event - 16 teams)

The Alumni Cup (Possibly room for 16 teams, but likely only 8 - depends on number of pitches available nearer the time).

For the Men's teams, qualification was through the leagues (for those in 1A) or through the Conference Cup (for those in lower divisions). Hopefully you should know which division you qualified for - top 3 to Championship, next 3 to Trophy, and the Conference Cup finalists obviously go through to that division.

The one exception is that the best 4th placed team in the leagues goes to the Championship - but BUCS haven't yet told us who that is! For now, 4th-6th should enter the Trophy and BUCS will swap one team up to the Championship when they know who it is!

BUCS have confirmed that you DO need to enter through BUCSscore, even though your fees are covered by your league fees. You don't need to pay - the cost is set to zero on the entry I understand - but you do need to enter. You athletic union staff will have to do this - you CANNOT enter yourselves. Go see them ASAP.

If - and only if - all the Uni staff are on holiday until after the closing date (technically possible I guess at this time of year) then it should be OK to enter late, but you MUST email UKU on the contact email below to let us know that you do intend to come.

All players will of course require full membership of the UKU for the finals.

For the Women's teams, qualifiers will need to enter through BUCSscore. Your athletic union staff will have to do this for you - you CANNOT enter yourselves. Go see them ASAP. The cost will be £140 as usual, and entries will close on the 31st March.

If - and only if - all the Uni staff are on holiday until after the closing date (technically possible I guess at this time of year) then it should be OK to enter late, but you MUST email UKU on the contact email below to let us know that you do intend to come. Similarly, if you qualified but are unable to attend, do let us know so that we can contact the next team on the list.

The waiting list looks like this:

N9 Nottingham
W9

Plymouth (have indicated they would not take a spot if offered)

Sc9 St Andrews 2
N10 Manchester
W10 Warwick
N11 Liverpool
N12 Lancaster
E9 Kent
Sc10 Glasgow 2
W11 Southampton 2
N13 Newcastle 2

Nottingham in fact are already assured of a place as Stirling are unable to attend. If any other qualified team will not be attending, do let us know straight away so that we can tell the next team to start planning their logistics as early as possible.

All players will of course require full membership of the UKU for the finals.

The Alumni Cup

Have you ever argued that your university team of 2010 was better than the 2005 team? Have you always wanted a re-match of a previous Student Nationals final? Well now is your chance! Gather together your mates and enter a team into the Alumni Cup.

Alumni cup will be an open division - obviously that means genuinely Open and not Men's; mixed teams are possible. To be eligible for an alumni team the player must have attended the institution for at least one year, on a more-than-half-time basis. The player does not need to have graduated from that institution. Universities may enter more than one team. All players must have basic UKU membership as a minimum - we will check some rosters at random on the day.

There is no qualification for this division. Please click here now to register. Entries will be accepted on a first-pay, first served basis and are not confirmed until payment has been received. The initial deadline for entries is Friday 1st April.

If you drop out before 1st April you will of course be refunded, but after that date you should not expect to get your money back. Late dropouts are a pain for everyone - please ensure you do have a full team before entering. Alumni teams are by their very nature a bit disparate and hard to herd, so please be really sure you do have enough committed players!

Cost = £185 per team

Contact name:
Benji Heywood
Contact email:

benji.heywood@ukultimate.com

Price:
£185 / £140 / Included in men's league fees!
How to register:

Through the UKU Entry Form for Alumni teams; through your Uni and BUCSscore for Men's and Women's teams

Accomodation and transport:

We do not intend to provide accommodation. We very rarely do for BUCS events, as your Uni should be supporting you. We do understand that some teams will not get that support, so you should contact us and we will put you in touch with the local team who MAY be able to help - but no guarantees.
