UKU Mixed Tour 1 2016

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 18/12/2015 - 4:17pm
Event date:
2 Apr 2016 (All day) - 3 Apr 2016 (All day)
Event details:

As per previous years this years Mixed Tour 1 will be held at Llanrumney Fields in Cardiff.

Registration - Registration for Mixed Tour 1 2016 is now closed.

Deadline for payment was the 14th of March on a first come first serve basis. Please note if you have entered and you with withdraw after this date you will not be eligible for a refund.

Venue - There will be food available as per normal and the usual changing/showering facilities will also be available.

IMPORTANT - There will be no on site camping/accommodation this year due to lack of availability at the nearby rugby club. With this in mind the venues facilities will only be open during the hours of 7:30 and 18:30. Please plan appropriately as the clubhouse will be closed outside of these hours.

Schedule - The draft schedule is now available at the following link:

https://goo.gl/2FtV8E

Insofar as is possible, we intend to keep this updated with results throughout the weekend. No guarantees of course, but we'll do what we can!

There will be no printed schedules or captains packs (other than the large master at the TD desk). There is no need to visit the TD desk on arrival, any last minute changes will be sent via text to your team captain/nominated person.

For the Saturday games we are hoping to keep the live schedule as up to date as the results we receive (see below).

Result & Spirit reporting - We will yet again be implementing a paperless system. After every game please head to the form (http://goo.gl/EJ9H8L) and submit your game and spirit score for your opposition. In the unlikely event that no one in your team has a smartphone/device you will be able to do this at the TD desk as a last resort.

Water - As per the UKU's new water policy the large water containers will unfortunately not be used this year. In their place we will be providing each team with 3 x 5L full water containers on arrival. It is then the teams responsibility to ensure there are filled from the clubhouse between game slots.

To collect your water please report to the TD desk on arrival. Any water not collected on Saturday will be distributed on a first come first serve basis on Sunday.

Pitches - Where possible we are aiming for 5m between pitches. Where this has not been possible please ensure that you use common sense when looking where to store bags etc.

Hooters - Games start and cap will be signalled using hooters. All games will be signalled by one long blast (under the current schedule format).

Warm ups - Where possible please run your warm ups off the pitches to ensure they stay in the best condition for the games.

Keep up to date - Follow @MT1TD for up-to date info or use the hashtag #UKUMT1 .

Physio & First Aid - There will be 2 physios on site to deal with any injuries incurred during the tournament. Please note they are not there to help with pre-existing injuries. There will also be 2 first aiders on site located in or around their ambulance. The nearest hospital can be found here - http://goo.gl/ES4NVw

Parking - As per previous years if you are parking at the fields the venue staff reserve the right to charge for parking (approx. £1 per car per day). Please note once the fields close on Saturday evening, you will not have access to your vehicle.

Sponsorship - We are very pleased to have VC Lookfly on board this year sponsoring the event. Not only will they be on site this year with some great gear but they will be offering some great pre tournament deals (see note from them below). Best of all the winners of the tournament will walk away with their team fee in VC Lookfly vouchers.

UKU Mixed Tour 3 2016

Submitted by see_jay_bee on Wed, 25/11/2015 - 11:52am
Event date:
14 May 2016 (All day) - 15 May 2016 (All day)
Event details:

We're over the moon to be hosting you all again for Mixed Tour 3 at Bishop's Cleeve Football Club, near Cheltenham.

The event will run all day on Saturday which we hope to include a show game in the early evening where the bargain curry will be available again! Please advise your numbers for this prior to the event so that we can confirm with the venue. This will be paid for by you on the day, but it would be good to at least get an idea of numbers so we don't over/under cater.

The final should be completed by around 5 on Sunday so hopefully you'll all be home in time for some well earned food and rest.

The clubhouse will be open until late on Saturday night so those of you that want to have a bit more of a shindig can! PA system will be onsite, so if you want to bring a play list with you to plug in, you can – but deal with the staff on the night for this.

We need to ask though that you don't bring your own food and drink into the club house. Prices there are very reasonable and in previous years it's been rather embarrassing having to tell the minority to respect the club and consume your own stuff in your tents or offsite.

You can now find the schedule here: https://goo.gl/el0rXf and also as a pdf below for printing.

Through the UKU Entry Form

Cut off date for entries is Saturday 30th April, where we expect to have received payment as well as the entry form. We have a maximum limit of 48 slots, which we’d love to fill - we were a bit light last year...!

If we're oversubscribed at the closing date, the UKU will determine which teams earn a space according to their usual policies - below, in order of application (note - these are under review after some issues at MT2, so may change slightly but will be broadly similar to this):

- Teams ranked in the top 32 of the previous tournament
- Foreign teams believed likely by the UKU Competitions Committee to finish in the top 16
- Teams whose participation the UKU Competitions Committee believe will benefit the growth of
Ultimate – for example, but not limited to, local teams who may not yet be ready to travel to other
tournaments, or teams based in underrepresented geographical areas
- Teams unable to enter the previous event due to over-subscription or non-entry
- Remaining teams, in order of their finish at the previous tournament

Any team that drops out with less than a week to go will not get a refund, those who drop out the week after entry cut off will receive a 50% refund, so please make sure you’ve got your team committed. We want to have as many of you there as possible, but please make sure you’ve got the numbers so that we can get the schedule published as early as possible, hence the refund policy.

Accomodation and transport:

Free on site camping at BCFC is available, from friday night with plenty of room.  Shower block and toilets will be available all day and throughout the night.

Cheltenham has lots of hotels and B&B's which can be found on the web. In terms of location, the nearest village is called Bishops Cleeve, where there are a few take aways - the chippy is pretty good and a good size tesco's with a Costa coffee inside.

Please bring:

Good weather, good spirit and the usual excellent attitude.

Appropriate clothing for all weathers - we can get it all over the weekend.

Also make sure all your belongings are tagged with your name on them - such as boots, water bottles etc - after this tour, what's not claimed will go to the chairty shops!!

UKU Junior (U20) Open Indoor Nationals 2015-16

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 11/09/2015 - 2:40pm
Event date:
27 Feb 2016 - 00:00 - 28 Feb 2016 - 11:59
Event details:

The UKU Junior (U20) Open Indoor Championships 2015-16 will be held at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton (WV6 9NW). There are 4 good size halls and there is balcony space and a cafe/bar onsite, as well as supermarkets nearby.

Eligibility

There is no qualifying round, and no 'minimum standard' that your team must meet - there will certainly be teams of beginners participating. If you are a newly formed school team, you are very, very much invited!

As per the UKU Junior eligibility rules, to be eligible for this UKU under-20 division you must have been born on or after January 1st 1997.

Please contact Junior Coordinator Joe Wyatt (joewyatt7[at]gmail.com) if there are any queries.

If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team locally, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation to the Junior Forum (email to: joewyatt7[at]gmail.com is sufficient) and have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. It is NOT appropriate for teams to be formed from friends all over the country (e.g. GB players) without checking with the Junior coordinator. There have been a few issues in recent years with combinations of players/teams that have not been checked or verified appropriately; please be organised, up front, and go through the correct systems.

Please also note that eligibilty decisions are made by volunteers - we're keen to help out, but do make sure to get your requests in early to make that easier.

Accommodation

Hopefully the central location will mean that the majority of teams might be able to travel home rather than needing accommodation on the Saturday night, but for some of you that clearly won't be possible. Obviously you are free to organise your own plans, and places like www.travelodge.co.uk (and there are a number around the motorways or Wolverhampton!) often have good deals, and there are a smattering of Youth Hostels nearby (www.yha.org.uk).

If you are really struggling for accommodation, please get in touch on benji.heywood@ukultimate.com and we will do what we can to assist, but we do not intend to offer accommodation as part of the tournament.

Other info

Please note: Clubs are welcome to enter more than one team, but in the event that the tournament is oversubscribed clubs entering multiple teams may find lower-ranked teams placed on a waiting list. However, the tournament has a large capacity and this is relatively unlikely based on previous years' entries.

Essential: Do not enter a team unless you have AT LEAST 7 fit players who are able to travel.

Advisable: Have at least one non-playing adult with the team, in case they need to accompany injured players to hospital or similar.

Entry and payment

Entry is through the UKU Event Entry Form. You can select your preferred method of payment on the form.

We anticipate that we will have space for everyone who wishes to enter; however, it is just about possible that we will approach capacity and have to turn some teams away. The closing date for entries will therefore be Friday 5th February, at which point we will confirm entries for all the teams we can fit. There will probably still be spaces available after that, but your first team will no longer have priority over someone else's 7th team after that date.

UKU U17 & U14 Open Indoor Nationals 2015-16

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 11/09/2015 - 2:34pm
Event date:
23 Jan 2016 (All day) - 24 Jan 2016 (All day)
Event details:

The UKU Under-17 and Under-14 Open Indoor Championships 2014-15 will be held at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton (WV6 9NW) on the weekend of Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th January 2016.

The playing schedule and Info Pack can now be seen on these links:

Schedule: https://goo.gl/H3iHe6

Info Pack: https://goo.gl/k8NGRT

or as PDFs below for printing.

Note that the online schedule should update during the day for those following along at home.

UPDATE:

Due to the venue double-booking us (nothing we can do; they made an error) we are not able to access the sports hall for most of the weekend. We will still be hosting the event at Aldersley - not least because we are aware that many of you will have booked transport or accommodation already - but we will be in the Astrodome onsite rather than in the hall for the majority of the time.

The bad news:

The dome can realistically accommodate only 3 pitches. We also have access to the usual 4 pitches in the hall for an hour or so on the Saturday morning before the other booking comes in, but even so we will be significantly down on pitch-hours compared to last year. This is likely to mean starting earlier and/or finishing later (we won't finish late on Sunday of course), or a reduction in game lengths, or fewer games each, or possibly having room for fewer teams. The exact details of the compromises we need to make will depend on the entries we receive, but it is probably wise if you plan for an 0930 start this year.

(Obviously we will do our best to help those teams who need a late start, but for that first hour on Saturday we will have 7 pitches in use, meaning we need 28 teams to play in either the first or second game - late starts will be only for those who REALLY need it!)

The dome is a short walk away from the main building and does not have its own changing rooms or cafe etc - all the amenities are in the main building. There is a path connecting the two, and no roads to cross or anything like that, but of course it's still a hassle for the competitors to go back and forth. Depending on your circumstances, you may feel the need for additional responsible persons to supervise when some of your school are in the cafe and some are playing in the dome a short walk away. We can only apologise if the venue adjustment causes you difficulties - there really was no other option for us after the venue made the error.

The good news:

The really good news is that while negotiating this back-up option for this year, we have now got access to the dome, and have managed to reach agreement with the owners that we should be able to use it in future years too, alongside the main hall  - so this does secure our future at Aldersley as we expect to have access to SEVEN pitches and run very large events.

IMPORTANT

The floor of the dome is rubbercrumb turf. You will of course be fine with trainers, and there's no need for players to go out and purchase astroturf boots, but those who do have the (pimpled) astro boots or some firm-ground moulded football boots should bring them. Players should NOT wear either the longer, soft-ground studs, or any form of blades.

Be aware that these dome venues are often VERY COLD, and that your players will need warm clothes (for the short walk between the two sites, if nothing else!)

Eligibility

To be eligible for this UKU under-17 division you must be in Year 11 or below, born on or after 1st September 1999 (the rules for UK Domestic competition differ slightly to International competition).

To be eligible for the under-14 division you must be in Year 8 or below, born on or after 1st Sept 2002.

Please contact Joe Wyatt (joewyatt7[at]gmail.com) if there are any queries.

If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation to the Junior Forum (email to: joewyatt7[at]gmail.com is sufficient) and have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. Accommodation

Hopefully the central location will mean that the majority of teams might be able to travel home rather than needing accommodation on the Saturday night, but for some of you that clearly won't be possible. Obviously you are free to organise your own plans, and places like www.travelodge.co.uk (and there are a number around the motorways or Wolverhampton!) often have good deals (e.g. family rooms which could sleep 4), and there are a smattering of Youth Hostels in Staffordshire (www.yha.org.uk).

There MAY be the potential for a bit of floorspace on the Saturday night at a local church hall if needed - please get in touch if desperate - but we won't organise this unless you ask us to, with plenty of notice. In previous years we have not provided accommodation at this event, so do let us know as soon as possible if you will need help.

Price:

How to register:

The cost of the tournament is £85 per team. If you want to come YOU MUST FILL IN THE FORM FOUND AT THIS LINK

Payment details will be sent to you by email once you have filled in the form. If your school require an invoice in order to make the payment, please make this clear on the web entry form and provide any additional details that will be needed.

Please bear in mind that we may need to limit the number of teams per school. We are not setting a limit up-front, but will need to monitor the situation as entries come in.  You can help us with this by getting your entries done sooner rather than later.

Accordingly, the initial closing date for entries will be Monday 14th December. At this point, we'll award spots to some of those teams who have entered and hopefully enable them to make plans before the Christmas break. Of course, we understand that this is fairly soon, and we do intend to still accept entries after this on a first come, first served basis (and we'll try to leave a little space for more schools rather than let in someone's 11th team - though this may not be possible).

UKU/BUCS University Men's & Women's Indoor Nationals 2015-16

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 11/09/2015 - 11:15am
Event date:
6 Feb 2016 (All day) - 7 Feb 2016 (All day)
Event details:

UKU/BUCS University Indoor Nationals for both Women and Men (Div 1 & 2) will all be held alongside each other in the fabulous and enormous Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell, near Glasgow.

The Info Pack can now be found here: https://goo.gl/s6DHK6

Please do read it carefully. and get in touch through the contact info provided therein if you have any further questions.

The Schedule - which we will endeavour to update as frequently as possible through the weekend, for those who cannot attend in person - can be found here: https://goo.gl/lrb8ZI

Both are available as PDFs below for printing.

It's a full size indoor 3G football pitch, 105x68m, giving us space for 6 full size pitches of approx 40x20m. There's also a balcony and cafe, and even some bleacher seating next to the pitch - it will be an amazing event to have it all happening at the same venue.

We aim to be finished by approx 3pm Sunday to get you on the road again, which means that Saturday will be quite a long day overall (9am-9pm), but we'll aim to schedule it so that no particular team is there the whole day.

There WILL be some floor-space available with the local University players or in scout huts etc, but this will of course be limited to those whose university will not support accommodation at a BUCS tournament - hopefully a good number of you will get that support for this event! Details have been posted on your regional Uni Ultimate Facebook group - you should make sure that representatives of your club are in that group as a great deal of information is posted there!

Entries are now open through BUCSscore - you MUST get your University AU staff to enter you, it is not possible for you to enter or for UKU to do it for you. Entries will close on the 7th JANUARY - that probably means you will need to enter a team before Christmas for many Universities.

http://www.bucs.org.uk/page.asp?section=15836&sectionTitle=Ultimate%20Indoor%20Championships%202015-16

(note that this link is to the BUCS info page only - to reiterate, you CANNOT enter except through your AU. Go see them right now!)

The closing date is early so that we're able to work out if there are any teams unable to attend, and we can then let the next few teams know they have a spot (before organising travel to Glasgow becomes impossible). Of course, if you have real trouble getting your AU organised, we will still accept later entries, but we will need you to email us and tell us very clearly that you WILL attend and WILL pay - what we can't have is people changing their mind late on, as that's not fair on any replacement teams.

UKU Junior Outdoor Nationals and Schools National Championships 2015

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 08/05/2015 - 3:50pm
Event date:
27 Jun 2015 - 10:00 - 28 Jun 2015 - 17:00
Event details:

Junior (U20) Outdoor Nationals and the UKU Schools National Championship Finals will this year be held at the South Bristol Sports Centre - full address below.

UKU Schools National Championship Finals are a 1-day, 5-a-side event on the Saturday only, whereas Junior Nationals is a 2 day, full-pitch 7-a-side event.

Note that for those schools teams who wish to play both days, we are able to add some school teams (or combinations of school teams if preferred) to the lower bracket of the Junior schedule on the Sunday, where in previous years they have generally found a very suitable level of competition.

JUNIOR NATIONALS

Player Eligibility: Born on or after 1st Jan 1996

Membership/Affiliation requirements:

Players playing for UKU-affiliated schools playing as school teams are not required to have membership.

All other players must have minimum Basic Membership of UK Ultimate.

Team sizes and planning:

Clubs must ensure that they have appropriate levels of adult supervision in place for the event.

Based on past experience please note that you should not enter a team unless you have at least 10 fit players able to travel.

We also strongly recommend that teams plan to have a non-playing adult travelling with the team.   There have been instances where small teams have had an injury, and a second player has had to accompany the injured player to hospital, leaving behind a team that is too small to continue.  This not only spoils the tournament for the team concerned, but also for their opposition who have travelled and paid to play games, only to find they have a walkover - not ideal for anyone.

Need a team?
If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation by emailing admin[at]ukultimate.com and have UKU ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. Where possible, players are linked up with players from a similar geographical area.

Multiple-teams:

Clubs are welcome to enter more than one team, but in the event that the tournament becomes oversubscribed, clubs entering multiple additional teams may find lower ranked teams placed on a waiting list.

Times:

Junior Nationals will run between approximately 10:30am and 5pm on Saturday and approximately 10am to 5pm on Sunday.

UKU SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS

Player Eligibility: There will be 2 divisions.

For the Y11 Division, all players must be in Year 11 or lower.

For the Y8 Division, all players must be in Year 8 or lower.

Please indicate on your entry form which division you would like to enter.

Team Eligibility:

All teams must be strictly school teams.  In the future we expect all teams will have to qualify through local qualification events.  For the time being, all school teams that wish to enter will be considered eligible.

Given that we are still not at the stage of having numerous regional qualifiers, for now we WILL accept multiple entries from one school (only if there is room of course - priority always given to 1st teams). This should NOT be taken to mean that this will always be possible in the future, but for now we see no benefit in turning teams away.

Membership/Affiliation requirements:

Players do not need individual membership provided the school is UKU-affiliated. Please contact admin[at]ukultimate.com for more information on Schools Affiliation.

Team sizes and planning:

RULES: Please remember this is a 5-a-side competition played to the “UKU-Schools” adapted rules with smaller playing area, and relatively short games.  Exact game-lengths and tournament format will depend on the number of teams that enter.
For more information please look here: http://www.ukultimate.com/uku-schools

Times:

The Schools Championships will run between approximately 10:30am and 5:00pm on the Saturday only.

The initial closing date for entries will be 4 weeks before the event - 29th May 2015. There may still be spaces after this time - please get in touch with any queries - but that is the date at which we will confirm entry for e.g. 2nd and 3rd teams, and any remaining spaces will be strictly first come first served.

We understand that you may not have complete control over the financial procedures at your institution, so the 29th May is not a payment deadline - but teams who pull out after that date may still be charged. Being signed up at that time is a firm commitment to pay and to play.

Accomodation and transport:

We ARE able to arrange camping at this venue, which we expect to be free. However, we need you to let us know ASAP if you intend to take up that option - obviously there is quite a lot involved in making that happen and if no teams require it (no-one did last year!) then we would need to cancel it as soon as possible. There is a question on the entry form about it; alternatively (if you aren't able to enter yet, but you know already that you'll probably camp) please email benji.heywood@ukultimate.com to let us know.

Remember that you are responsible for the supervision of your team - we can arrange camping, and open the toilets etc, but we do not undertake to be responsible for your players overnight!

We also asked some local players for advice on accommodation, and this is the list they came up with - you'll have to use google from here on in, but some of these might help you look in the right place!

Entry is now open through the UKU Entry Form, but please do read all info on the tournament website before entering.

The  closing date and payment date will be 28 days in advance of the event - Friday 5th June. After this date, places will be awarded. Places may still be available later on a first-come first-served basis if the tournament is under-subscribed, but no team - no matter how strong - would be guaranteed entry.

Please note also that teams who pull out after the closing date will be liable for 50% of the fees, and those who pull out in the last fortnight (after 19th June) will be liable for the full team fee.

Please note the following rules governing who is awarded a spot if the tournament is oversubscribed at the closing date:

Open

4.2.1.2 At Tours 2 and 3, priority will be given as follows:
•    Teams ranked in the top 32 of the previous tournament.
•    Foreign teams believed likely by the competitions committee to finish in the top 24.
•    Teams whose participation the UKU Competitions Committee believe will benefit the growth of Ultimate – for example, but not limited to, local teams who may not yet be ready to travel to other tournaments, or teams based in underrepresented geographical areas.
•    Teams unable to enter the previous event due to over-subscription or non-entry.
•    Remaining teams, in order of their finish at the previous tournament.

Women

4.2.2.1 In 2015 we intend to allow all teams to enter provided they do so before the deadline. If that number exceeds 24 teams, we may move to a system where places are allocated as follows:
•    Teams ranked in the top 12 of the previous tournament (or the previous year overall, for T1).
•    Foreign teams believed likely by the competitions committee to finish in the top 8.
•    Teams unable to enter the previous event due to over-subscription or non-entry (Tours 2 & 3 only).
•    Teams whose participation the UKU Competitions Committee believe will benefit the growth of Ultimate – for example, but not limited to, local teams who may not yet be ready to travel to other tournaments, or teams based in underrepresented geographical areas.
•    Remaining teams, in order of their finish at the previous tournament

As ever, we'll be around from Friday evening setting the club house up and then ready to go first thing on Saturday morning. The event will run all day on Saturday which we hope to include a show game around 5pm -ish where the bargain curry will be available again!

Following the success of the last couple of years, we may well have karaoke again!!

We need to ask though that you don't bring your own food and drink into the club house. Prices there are very reasonable and in previous years it's been rather embarrassing having to tell the minority to respect the club and consume your own stuff in your tents or offsite.

Event entry form

Cut off date for entries is Friday 24th April, where we expect to have received payment as well as the entry form. We have a maximum limit of 48 slots, which we’d love to fill - we nearly did last year!

If we're oversubscribed at the closing date, the UKU will determine which teams earn a space according to their usual policies - below, in order of application:

Happy smiling faces and a desire to win!

Those that are camping, bring all your camping stuff!

Be prepared for all weathers as it can be pretty windy and it can blow in all kinds of weather.
