UKU Junior Outdoor Nationals and Schools National Championships 2014

Submitted by benheywood on Tue, 15/04/2014 - 10:55am
Event date:
28 Jun 2014 - 09:00 - 29 Jun 2014 - 17:00
Event details:

Junior Outdoor Nationals and UKU Schools National Championship Finals will this year return to The Pavilion, Moor Lane in Birmingham (location details below).

UKU Schools National Championship Finals is a one-day event on the Saturday only.

Schedules, Info Pack and Pitch Map can now be downloaded from the bottom of this page. You can also see a schedule on this link which will be updated with game scores throughout the weekend:

Player Eligibility: Born on or after 1st Jan 1995

Membership/Affiliation requirements:

Players playing for UKU-affiliated schools playing as school teams are not required to have membership.

All other players must have minimum Basic Membership.

Team sizes and planning:

Clubs must ensure that they have appropriate levels of adult supervision in place for the event.

Based on past experience please note that you should not enter a team unless you have at least 10 fit players able to travel.

We also strongly recommend that teams plan to have a non-playing adult travelling with the team.   There have been instances where small teams have had an injury, and a second player has had to accompany the injured player to hospital, leaving behind a team that is too small to continue.  This not only spoils the tournament for the team concerned, but also for their opposition who have travelled and paid to play games, only to find they have a walkover.  Not ideal for anyone.

Need a team?
If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation by emailing admin[at]ukultimate.com and have UKU ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. Where possible, players are linked up with players from a similar geographical area.

Clubs are welcome to enter more than one team, but in the event that the tournament becomes oversubscribed, clubs entering multiple additional teams may find lower ranked teams placed on a waiting list.

Player Eligibility: All players must be in Year 11 or lower.

If there is sufficient interest to make a separate tournament, we also intend to create another division for year 8 and below; please indicate on your entry form which division you would like to enter.

Team Eligibility:

All teams must be strictly school teams.  In the future we expect all teams will have to qualify through local qualification events.  For the time being, all school teams that wish to enter (max 1 team per school per division) will be considered eligible.

Membership/Affiliation requirements:

Players do not need individual membership provided the school is UKU-affiliated. Please contact admin[at]ukultimate.com for more information on Schools Affiliation.

Team sizes and planning:

RULES: Please remember this is a 5-a-side competition played to the “UKU-Schools” adapted rules with smaller playing area, and relatively short games.  Exact game-lengths and tournament format will depend on the number of teams that enter.
For more information please look here: http://www.ukultimate.com/uku-schools

The Schools Championships will run between 10:30am and 5:00pm on the Saturday.

UKU Junior (U20) Open Indoor Nationals

Submitted by benheywood on Tue, 21/01/2014 - 10:25am
Event date:
1 Mar 2014 - 09:00 - 2 Mar 2014 - 18:00
Event details:

The UKU Junior (U20) Open Indoor Championships 2014 will be held at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton (WV6 9NW) on the weekend of Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd March 2014. There are 4 good size halls and there is balcony space and a cafe/bar onsite, as well as supermarkets nearby.

Please use the online entry form but do check the details below.

Hopefully the central location will mean that the majority of teams might be able to travel home rather than needing accommodation on the Saturday night, but for some of you that clearly won't be possible. Obviously you are free to organise your own plans, and places like www.travelodge.co.uk (and there are a number around the motorways or Wolverhampton!) often have good deals (e.g. family rooms which could sleep 4 from £19 per night), and there are a smattering of Youth Hostels nearby (www.yha.org.uk).

If you are really struggling for accommodation, please get in touch on admin@ukultimate.com and we will do what we can to assist.

As per the UKU Junior eligibility rules, to be eligible for this UKU under-20 division you must have been born on or after January 1st 1995.

Please contact Benji Heywood (doc@ukultimate.com) if there are any queries.

If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation to UK Ultimate (email to: admin@ukultimate.com is sufficient) and have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. There have been a few issues in recent years with combinations of players/teams that have not been checked or verified appropriately; please be organised, up front, and go through the correct systems.

Entry and payment

The cost of the tournament is £80 per team. If you want to come YOU MUST FILL IN THE FORM FOUND AT THIS LINK

Payment details will be sent to you by email once you have filled in the form. If your school/club require an invoice in order to make the payment, please make this clear on the web entry form and provide any additional details that will be needed.

The closing date will be Friday 14th February to confirm your place at the event. Please get in touch if the payment process means you expect to miss the closing date. This will be fine as long as you are entered in time, but please get in touch to make sure we know about it.

Other info

Please note: Clubs are welcome to enter more than one team, but in the event that the tournament is oversubscribed clubs entering multiple teams may find lower-ranked teams placed on a waiting list. However, the tournament has a large capacity and this is relatively unlikely based on previous years' entries.

Essential: Do not enter a team unless you have AT LEAST 7 fit players who are able to travel.

Advisable: Have at least one non-playing adult with the team, in case they need to accompany injured players to hospital or similar.

UKU/BUCS University Open and Women's Outdoor Nationals & Alumni Cup

Submitted by benheywood on Mon, 13/01/2014 - 6:09pm
Event date:
26 Apr 2014 - 09:00 - 27 Apr 2014 - 18:00
Event details:

This year's BUCS UKU University Outdoor Nationals will be held at the University of Manchester Sports Ground. We will host all four divisions; the University Open Divisions 1 & 2, the University Women's Division and the Alumni Cup!

Have you ever argued that your university team of 2010 was better than the 2005 team? Have you always wanted a re-match of a previous Student Nationals final? Well now is your chance! Gather together your mates and enter a team into the Alumni Cup.

Alumni cup will be an open division - obviously that means genuinely Open and not Men's; mixed teams are possible. To be eligible for an alumni team the player must have attended the institution for at least one year, on a more-than-part-time basis. The player does not need to have graduated from that institution. Universities may enter more than one team.

How to register:

Open divisions 1 & 2: Qualification for both open divisions was via the regional qualifiers. BUCS will set the closing date for payment in these divisions, and all entries will be through them. You will need to speak to your Athletic Union in order to enter and pay through the BUCS system - you can't do it yourself. It will cost £140 per team.

Womens: There is no qualification for this division. Please click here now to register. The initial deadline for entries is Friday 4th April.

Maximum teams: There is intended to be no limit for this division. In the event that we suddenly get double what we had last year, SOME element of first come/first served may apply, so it is worth getting in early. Strong teams from last year will be protected as long as they enter before the closing date. Exact details of who gets in if oversubscribed will be published soon.

Cost = £140 per team

Alumni Cup: There is no qualification for this division. Please click here now to register. Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first served basis but are not confirmed until payment has been received. The initial deadline for entries is Friday 4th April.

Maximum teams = 16 teams. There is no scope to expand this - if you want a spot, enter quick!

Cost = £185 per team

Accomodation and transport:

As in previous years teams will be expected, where at all possible, to organise their own accommodation. For those who are really struggling, Elly White (uniwomenscoordinator@gmail.com) will try to find you a floor to sleep on. Please contact her directly with your requests, as soon as possible. We DON'T expect to be able to provide any help for Alumni teams.

The postcode for the actual venue does not work correctly so please use M23 0DT for an approximate location. Below are a number of websites that may be useful:
