SCHEDULE v1-1

**************

UKU University Women's Indoor Nationals is being held at Ellowes Hall in Wolverhampton.  The large hall has two courts and a hard-wood surface.  We do need teams to try to find accommodation if they can, but we have some church-hall space available - so do get in touch if you are really struggling.

The cost is £120 / team.

Please use the usual online entry form to enter.

Note about BUCS-status of UKU University Women's Indoor Nationals

We have been in discussions with BUCS about sanctioning Women's Indoors for some time.  BUCS had a meeting in November 2013 that included a review of the situation.  They are not able to inform us of the outcome of that decision until the meeting minutes have been published to their members later this month.

At BUCS' suggestion we ran the Regional Qualifiers according to the BUCS eligibility regulations because there was a small possibility of a positive decision to sanction this year's event.  BUCS has confirmed that the competition will NOT be sanctioned for 2013-14 due to the very short timescales involved.

The following teams qualified - this list will be updated as teams confirm their entry:

Dundee
Edinburgh
Glasgow
Aberdeen
Leeds
Bangor
Newcastle
Durham
Birmingham
Loughborough
Nottingham
Cambridge
Exeter
Bristol
Plymouth
UCL
Sussex
Imperial
Kings
Cardiff

*******************************************

We have 4 fields available at the REMPF for LWL 2013-14.

Please see info about payment below.

Non UK-resident players must have their own liability insurance which is most likely something they will have as part of their membership of home federation, or perhaps their travel insurance.

Sun 15 Dec: O / Mx (3-4)

New approach to payments at LWL 2013-14

Payment is to be made in the week FOLLOWING the event in order to reduce time spent on payment admin when events are cancelled.  Entry fee is £60/team.

1. We will hold teams liable for their entry once they complete the entry form unless they cancel by the Wednesday MIDDAY prior to the event (this is very late but we all know LWL has to be a bit like that).

2. Payments made more than ONE WEEK after the event will be subject to late-payment fee of additional £20/team.

3. If we have to make any charge for cancelled sessions (to cover REMPF costs incurred prior to cancellation) we will handle all of the invoicing and payments after the last LWL event in Feb 2014.

This is to make your lives easier.  Please do not game the system by entering events before you know that you can raise a team.

Accomodation and transport:

This venue is easy to reach by public transport:

  • Get a train or tube to Putney station (NOT East Putney!!!!) and then exit.
  • Directly outside, is a bus stop where the 85 heads straight to the fields.
  • Get on the 85 and it will head out of Putney and onto the back roads alongside the A3.
  • Stay with the bus until it reaches a T junction with the A3.
  • It will turn right here and then you need to wait until the bus has passed Asda and Texaco on the left and get off by the Roehampton Campus stop.
  • The fields are there on your left.

You can get to Putney quickly from Clapham Junction, Vauxhall, Waterloo and also on the District line.

You should be able to reach the grounds easily from places like Kingston (e.g. using the #85 in the opposite direction) and Wimbledon but please check http://www.tfl.gov.uk/

Driving

You can only get to the fields from the southbound A3.
The turning into the grounds is at the bottom of the hill after Roehampton, just after a large ASDA superstore (on the left) and basically opposite the Robin Hood Gate entrance to Richmond Park.

If you are coming from outside London the simplest route is to use Jn 10 of the M25 which puts you on the A3. Arguably it might be quicker to cross London if coming from the North or West depending on the time of day.

If coming North up the A3 towards London, you will NOT be able to access the fields unless you turn around and head back down the southbound side of the road. To do this, follow the A3 towards London and at the Robin Hood roundabout (A308 to Kingston on your left) head straight on and then take the next left turn, signposted to Putney Vale Cemetary. This will take you under the road and allow you to join the A3 heading south on the other side. Rejoin the A3, stay in the left hand lane and then take the left turn which will be sign-posted Richardson Evans.

If you miss the turning, as it's quite possible to do, then don't panic, get in the right hand lane and do another one 180 degree turn at the roundabout and try again!

Please bring:

Items that will make your participation more comfortable: London Winter League can be, and often is, cold and/or wet; there's very little shelter pitchside; and there are no food or drink facilities onsite.

Suggested items include, but are not limited to:

  • snacks;
  • water bottles (there are taps on site);
  • flasks containing hot drinks;
  • undershirts, leggings, hats, etc. to keep you warm whilst playing;
  • hats, gloves, coats, overtrousers, etc. to keep you warm between/after games;
  • a towel & warm dry clothes to change into at the end of the day;
  • a waterproof bag to keep the above items dry
    (bin liners work well, and can be used to dispose of any rubbish at the end of the day!)

A weather forecast for the day can be accessed via Metcheck.

There are toilets on site, and we may have use of changing rooms with showers.

There is an ASDA approx 15min walk from the fields, open 11:00 - 17:00, with a Cash Machine and a Cafe - see the ASDA website for more details.

INFORMATION AND SCHEDULE v1-0

******************************

Open Div 1 Uni Finals will again return to the Alan Higgs centre in Coventry.  The large hall has two courts, and a "3G rubber crumb" surface.

It is a great surface for playing Ultimate on, but please note the following advice about footwear on the rubber crumb carpet at Alan Higgs:

Football boots with moulded studs, or astroturf boots are best.  The venue also recommend that people can wear trainers - and whilst this is OK - its probably not ideal for Ultimate on this surface.
Do NOT wear blades or long – especially screw-in – studs.  There is a danger with either type of doing damage to YOU and/or the carpet.

It is worth mentioning that when the weather outside is very cold, it can get cold in the sports hall - it is a big barn with no heating!  Bring warm clothes!  Really.
