UKU Nottingham WindFarm, Open & Women's Tour 1 2017 will be held at Grove Farm, University of Nottingham, with all divisions of the UKU Tour in one location. This is the same venue as used for OWT2 2016, and many other tournaments over the last few years.  The venue doesn’t have its own postcode, but NG7 2SA will get you onto the right entry road, and you should just follow that all the way to the end.

After some significant work on the site, there are now two shiny new changing blocks, and even more pitches - well over 30, if we need them - so we really do expect to cater for every single team that wishes to enter! That doesn't mean we'll necessarily accept very late entries, as plans will have been made by then - so do make sure to meet the deadlines if you can.

The closing date (and payment date) for this event will be 3 weeks in advance - Sunday 14th May 2016. After this date, places will be awarded. Places MAY still be available later on a first-come first-served basis if the tournament is under-subscribed, and if the additional team(s) would not adversely affect the schedule, but no team - no matter how strong - would be guaranteed entry.

Please note also that teams who pull out after the closing date will be liable for 50% of the fees, and those who pull out in the last fortnight (after 21st May) will be liable for the full team fee.

Late entries may be charged an additional £30 fine - we do expect to be able to find room for as many teams as needed, but we certainly don't want to encourage everyone to enter late either!

**********

Nottingham is roughly 2.5, 3 and 5 hours drive from London, Cardiff and Edinburgh, respectively, with 80% of the UK within 2 hours’ reach of the city.

The nearest airport is East Midlands, approx 20 mins by car from the venue, along the A453 (see driving directions below - the airport is very close to where you sould leave the motorway if driving from elsewhere).

Nottingham is best accessed from the M1 for the majority of the country, or via the M5 & M42 for those travelling from the West. Whether taking the M1 for long distances, or joining it at the end of the M42 or M6, your best bet is to exit at Junction 24 (regardless of being Southbound or Northbound), onto the A453.

Follow this road along the River Trent for around 10 miles, before reaching the A52 (Clifton Boulevard), take this until a roundabout, taking the first exit onto Lenton Lane.

Stay on Lenton Lane right to the end, where staff will guide you to the parking area.

Note that Lenton Lane is single track, and if you come out again at busy times (or if a taxi drops you off and leaves) you will cause major headaches. Please try to take that inco account! Taxis should drop off at the Powerleague facility (Thane Rd, Nottingham NG7 2TG) which backs on to the other side of the pitches, and there is a cut-through to get you on to the site.

The Riverside Golf Centre is not part of the Tour venue.

Schedule and Info Pack now available as pdfs below. The schedule can also be seen online, where it will update throughout the weekend with results as they happen - https://goo.gl/781lvS

UKU/BUCS University Men's & Women's Outdoor Nationals will be held on this date at Nottingham University's Grove Farm venue.

The venue doesn’t have its own postcode, but NG7 2SA will get you onto the right entry road. Follow it all the way to the end, even though it looks like it doesn't go anywhere much.

Entries are now open and will close on Thursday 13th April 2017. Note that already this season a team has missed out on a tournament they qualified for due to not getting an entry in on time - BUCS are extremely strict on these. Make sure you get it done!

This year we once again will host an amazing six divisions:

Men's UKU/BUCS Championships (a.k.a Division 1, 16 teams)

Men's UKU/BUCS Trophy (a.k.a Division 2, 14 teams)

Men's UKU/BUCS Conference Cup Finals (a.k.a. Division 3, 10 teams)

Women's UKU/BUCS Championships (a.k.a. Division 1, 16 teams)

Women's UKU/BUCS Division 2 (No BUCS points available, but still a BUCS event - 16 teams)

The Alumni Cup (Space for up to 16 teams).

For the Men's teams, qualification was through the leagues (for those in 1A) or through the Conference Cup (for those in lower divisions). Hopefully you should know which division you qualified for - top 3 to Championships, next 3 to Trophy, and the Conference Cup finalists obviously go through to that division.

The one exception is that the best 4th placed team in the leagues goes to the Championships - which this year is Strathclyde, on points difference over the other 4th place finishers. Strathclyde should enter the Championships on BUCSscore.

ALL TEAMS DO NEED TO ENTER through BUCSscore, even though your fees are covered by your league fees. You don't need to pay - the cost is set to zero on the entry form - but you do need to enter. You athletic union staff will have to do this - you CANNOT enter yourselves. Go see them ASAP.

If - and only if - all the Uni staff are on holiday until after the closing date (technically possible I guess at this time of year) then we will talk to BUCS and make sure you are not disadvantaged, but you MUST email UKU on the contact email below to let us know about any issues IN ADVANCE.

All players will of course require full membership of the UKU for the finals.

For the Women's teams, qualifiers will need to enter through BUCSscore. Your athletic union staff will have to do this for you - you CANNOT enter yourselves. Go see them ASAP. The cost will be £140 as usual, and entries will close on the 13th April.

If - and only if - all the Uni staff are on holiday until after the closing date (technically possible I guess at this time of year) then we will talk to BUCS and make sure you are not disadvantaged, but you MUST email UKU on the contact email below to let us know about any issues IN ADVANCE. Similarly, if you qualified but are unable to attend, do let us know ASAP so that we can contact the next team on the list.

The waiting list will be calculated ASAP and added here soon.

All players will of course require full membership of the UKU for the finals.

The Alumni Cup

Have you ever argued that your university team of 2010 was better than the 2005 team? Have you always wanted a re-match of a previous Student Nationals final? Well now is your chance! Gather together your mates and enter a team into the Alumni Cup.

Alumni cup will be an open division - obviously that means genuinely Open and not Men's; mixed teams are possible. To be eligible for an alumni team the player must have attended the institution for at least one year, on a more-than-half-time basis. The player does not need to have graduated from that institution - i.e. it's quite possible for current teams/players who didn't qualify for nationals to come along and play in the Alumni Cup. Universities may enter more than one team. All players must have basic UKU membership as a minimum - we will check some rosters at random on the day.

There is no qualification for this division. Please click here now to register. Entries will be accepted on a first-pay, first served basis and are not confirmed until payment has been received. The initial deadline for entries is Thursday 13th April.

If you drop out before 13th April you will of course be refunded, but after that date you should not expect to get your money back. Late dropouts are a pain for everyone - please ensure you do have a full team before entering. Alumni teams are by their very nature a bit disparate and hard to herd, so please be really sure you do have enough committed players!

Similarly, there is a small chance that the division does not get enough teams to go ahead. There will of course be refunds if that's the case, but do perhaps be a little wary of booking unrefundable accommodation etc. If team numbers are very low, we will ask the teams involved whether they would still like to go ahead with the tournament - we don't mind if you want to play with only 4 teams, but equally we are aware that some teams might not be tempted if the division is very small. We should stress though that we do expect the division to run, as it has every other year - we're just a bit worried that we've advertised it very late is all!

Entries will be through BUCS - not through UKU - and will be open between the 10th and 19th of January 2017. You MUST speak to your university to enter you - neither you nor we can do it. Only your university staff have logins for the BUCS system. Do not miss the deadline - your spot may be offered to another team almost immediately, as they will need time to plan their travel etc.

BUCS info is here: http://www.bucs.org.uk/page.asp?section=15836&sectionTitle=Indoor%20Championships

If you are struggling to arrange it with your university staff for some reason, please get in touch - but if the first time you try and speak to them is 3 hours before the deadline then our sympathy will be limited!

As per usual at these Nationals events, we do not intend to provide accommodation on people's floors. If you are REALLY struggling, do get in touch and we'll try our best to put you in touch with someone relatively local who MAY be able to help - but we do not plan to organise accommodation for these events.

UKU/BUCS Indoors Entry Rules

BUCS Regionals (Open/Women - see additional rules for Mixed below)

The closing date and payment date will be as announced by BUCS (to your Uni) and on our UKU event pages. BUCS will no longer accept late entries this year. It may be possible for us to institute a second round of entries after the first deadline has passed if the tournaments are undersubscribed, but these will be charged (by BUCS) at 20% over the initial price - and we cannot in any way guarantee to make space for teams who have missed the BUCS deadlines. Don't mess this up!

For tournaments that are over-subscribed at the closing date the following rules will apply, in order:

·         First teams will get priority over second teams, and second over third etc.

·         If there is insufficient room for all first teams, places will be awarded in the following order:

o   First teams finishing in the top half of the previous year’s tournament

o   First teams who didn’t enter the previous year’s tournament

o   Remaining first teams in order of their finishing position last year

·         If there are spaces remaining after all first teams have been awarded a space, second teams will be offered places in an order based on finishing position last year, and then third teams and so on

o   Second teams with no finishing position from last year will have a lower priority than those who attended – but still above all third teams (and so on)

If the cut-off happens to fall between 2 or more teams with no finishing position from last year, a lottery will be run between those teams to determine entry.

BUCS Nationals

The closing date and payment date will be as announced by BUCS. Entry is guaranteed for all qualifying teams provided they meet this deadline.

Should any teams fail to take up their spots, the places will be filled by the next-ranked team from one of the qualifying tournaments, with priority among regions determined according to the following (in order):

1.       The region(s) not yet offered an extra place under this process which had the fewest qualification spots originally

2.       The region from which the team dropped out

3.       The strongest regions, i.e.

a.       for Division 1, the region with the highest-ranked relegated team last year – but note that rule 1 means we ignore teams from regions already awarded a dropout-spot.

b.      for Division 2, the region with the highest average finishing position in Division 2 the previous year

c.       for Women’s, the region with the highest average finishing position last year.

4.       A lottery between regions that cannot be separated by the above

Mixed

Rules will be the same as for BUCS tournaments, with the following additions:

Late entries may be accepted, providing that they improve the schedule for others. We will not allow late entries which make the numbers worse.

·         Single-institution teams at a given level (e.g. 1st, 2nd etc) will have priority entry at regionals over any teams at the same level who have players from more than one institution.

·         UKU reserve the right to move clubs to a blacklist if any of their teams default from any UKU University tournament at late notice.

o   Blacklisted 1st teams will only get into non-BUCS tournaments if there is space for all 1st teams; 2nd/3rd/4th teams from blacklisted clubs will only get a space if the tournament is undersubscribed – i.e. someone else’s 4th team will get in ahead of your 2nd team.

We do not expect to provide accommodation for this BUCS Nationals event. Local teams may be able to help if you ask them, and it's a fairly cheap part of the country for hotels etc, but we do not intend to centrally organise accommodation.

UKU U17 & U14 Open Indoor Nationals 2016-17

Submitted by benheywood on Thu, 11/08/2016 - 11:38am
Event date:
28 Jan 2017 (All day) - 29 Jan 2017 (All day)
Event details:

The UKU Under-17 and Under-14 Open Indoor Championships 2015-16 will be held at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton (WV6 9NW) on the weekend of Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th January 2017.

We're once again at the excellent and centrally located Aldersley facility, and this year we have secured 2 pitches in the main sports hall (hardcourt surface; indoor trainers required) and 3 in the nearby dome (artificial grass surface; trainers or short studs are fine). This should give us plenty of room for all who wish to enter!

Please note that unlike many other sports, Ultimate tournaments are always played out for position all the way down - so even teams ranked e.g. 17th-24th in their division will still play a Quarter, Semi and Final in their bracket. Even the most inexperienced team will still expect to play the same number of games as the winners - you don't get knocked out early at these events! Come and join in the fun.

Eligibility
There is no qualifying round, and no 'minimum standard' that your team must meet - there will certainly be teams of beginners participating. If you are a newly formed school team, you are very, very much invited!

To be eligible for this UKU under-17 division you must be in Year 11 or below (the rules for UK Domestic competition differ slightly to International competition).

To be eligible for the under-14 division you must be in Year 8 or below.

As the tournament is Open, there are no gender restrictions - all-male teams, or all-female teams, or anything in between, are absolutely fine.

Please contact Joe Wyatt (joewyatt7[at]gmail.com) if there are any queries.

If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation to the Junior Forum (email to: joewyatt7[at]gmail.com is sufficient) and have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with.

Please also note that eligibilty decisions are made by volunteers - we're keen to help out, but do make sure to get your requests in early to make that easier.

Entry

Entry is now open for this event (through the UKU Entry Form) and will provisionally close on Monday 12th December. We do very much expect that we will still have places remaining after that date so it is certainly worth getting in touch if you have left it late - but for those teams who enter promptly we would like to be able to confirm their places before Christmas so that they can start to make some arrangements for the trip. After that date, it will simply be first come first served.

If the tournament is oversubscribed at the closing date (unlikely, but you never know) we will prioritise first teams from each institution, and then second teams above third teams etc all the way down. If the cut-off happens to fall between teams at the same level (e.g. 4th teams from two institutions) then priority will go to whoever entered on the earliest date (or be decided by the drawing of lots if we can't separate them by date). Once the initial deadline has passed, places are confirmed, and the entry of a new first team will not 'bump' someone's 7th team anymore - it's literally first come first served at that stage for any remaining places.

Please note that while we do not demand payment in order to secure your spot (we are aware how slow the payment process can be at some institutions) any team who is entered as of the closing date should consider themselves committed to payment even if they subsequently drop out. Obviously if circumstances are very much out of your control then we may make an exception, but in general when we allocate you a spot without pre-payment we must trust that you will pay at some point - otherwise we would just have a situation where everyone entered 12 teams and then withdrew whatever they didn't want. Any entry is normally considered binding if you have not withdrawn it BEFORE the closing date (unless, of course, you don't get a place due to oversubscription - we won't charge you for that!).

Accommodation

Hopefully the central location will mean that the majority of teams might be able to travel home rather than needing accommodation on the Saturday night, but for some of you that clearly won't be possible. Places like www.travelodge.co.uk (and there are a number around the motorways or Wolverhampton!) often have good deals, and there are a smattering of Youth Hostels nearby (www.yha.org.uk).

If you are really struggling for accommodation, please get in touch on benji.heywood[at]ukultimate.com and we will do what we can to assist with suggestions, but we do not offer accommodation as part of the tournament.

Other info

Please note: Clubs are welcome to enter more than one team, but in the event that the tournament is oversubscribed clubs entering multiple teams may find lower-ranked teams placed on a waiting list. However, the tournament has a large capacity and this is relatively unlikely based on previous years' entries.

Essential: Do not enter a team unless you have AT LEAST 7 fit players who are able to travel.

Advisable: Have at least one non-playing adult with the team, in case they need to accompany injured players to hospital or similar.

It will be a one day event on Sunday 6th November (approx 10am-5pm) on at least 3 pitches. We will run competitions in 3 different age brackets - U20, U17 and U14 - and we will have space for at least 24 teams total.

Entry into the tournament will cost £65 per team.  Payment will be made directly to UK Ultimate.  In order to secure a place in the tournament, please fill in the form here:

http://www.ukultimate.com/event_entry_form

Please note that the initial deadline for entries will be Thursday 6th October. The deadline is relatively early (4 weeks from the tournament) in order that we can confirm who has a spot in plenty of time to organise your transport etc.

Before this deadline, priority will go to 1st teams from each institution. At this deadline, remaining available spaces in the tournament may be allocated to second and third teams. If you would like to enter more than one team per age group, please be aware that they may not all get in (and won't be confirmed until after the closing date). With the larger 3-pitch tournament, we do hope to accommodate all the teams who wish to participate, but we can't guarantee it until after that date.

It is possible that there will be room available after the closing date, and we will allow more teams to enter if that's the case. The big difference will be that you won't get priority over someone else's third team any more!

If you have a small number of players but not enough for a full team (or enough for 1 but not quite enough for 2), please get in touch because it's likely that others will be in the same position and we could combine players so that more girls get to take part. Of course, all combined teams must be approved by UKU to prevent deliberate super-teams forming, so do please contact Junior coordinator Joe Wyatt on joewyatt7[at]gmail.com to discuss.

Eligibility:

There is no qualifying round, and no 'minimum standard' that your team must meet. If you are a newly formed school team, you are very, very much invited!

Lots of new institutions have joined UK Ultimate over the past 12 months, and we'd be delighted if as many as possible could make it to this tournament. There will be a very large range of abilities, with many teams of complete beginners, so do not feel intimidated by the 'Nationals' designation - it's open to everyone and everyone will have a great time.

As per the UKU Junior eligibility rules, to be eligible for the UKU under-20 division you must have been born on or after January 1st 1997.

To be eligible for the U17 division, you must be in Year 11 or below.

To be eligible for the U14 division, you must normally be in Year 8 or below, but for this tournament so early in the school year we are happy for younger Year 9s (i.e. those with birthdays from January-August) to play in the Y8 division also.

Where possible teams should be made up of girls from a single club / school / organisation but where that is not possible, the first option should usually be to pick up for the most local team.  If you want to play for a team that is not your school team, please get in touch with joewyatt7[at]gmail.com and we will do what we can to make sure that this is done fairly.

Multiple teams:
Places will initially be reserved for first teams. Any additional teams will be placed on a waiting list.  These teams will be given spaces if they are still available after the initial deadline, with priority going to second teams, then third teams if appropriate. For teams at the same level places will be distributed on a first come first served basis - i.e. second team spots go to the earliest second teams to enter, and third team spots to the earliest third teams to enter, but that does NOT mean that an early third team goes ahead of someone else's second team.

Other info:

Do not enter a team unless you have AT LEAST 7 fit players who are able to travel.

Have at least one non-playing adult with the team, in case they need to accompany injured players to hospital or similar (strongly advised for U20s, obviously a necessity for younger age groups!).
