UKU Club Open Indoor Nationals 2015/16

Submitted by benheywood on Thu, 17/09/2015 - 2:59pm
Event date:
13 Feb 2016 (All day) - 14 Feb 2016 (All day)
Event details:

UKU Club Open Indoor Nationals will be held this weekend at Arena Sports Kettering, Thurston Drive, Kettering NN15 6PB

The venue is host to the National Volleyball Centre and has a sprung wooden floor (hence you will require indoor trainers). Games will run from 9am to 6pm on Saturday, and 9am to 5pm on Sunday.

There will be 20 places available, awarded to those who qualified through the regional competitions in December and January.

The schedule is now available here: https://goo.gl/SZ1tO8

And the Info Pack can be found here: https://goo.gl/RBhoyC

Both are available as PDFs below.

Entries are now open through the UKU Entry Form and will close on Sunday 24th January. Of course, we do realise that this is a shortish time for those qualified teams to get their entries in, but it is important that we leave plenty of time for any replacement teams to be invited once we see which qualified teams actually enter - Kettering is of course quite a long way from Scottish Regionals in particular so we may lose a couple of teams.

We don't require payment to secure your spot, but we do need to know who is coming so that we can let all the other teams know if they have a spot.

So:

- If you haven't signed up by Sunday, your place will be offered to someone else

- If you are on the list on Sunday night, you will be expected to come and will be liable* for the entry fee if you qualified or if you are offered a spot before Wednesday 27th January (obviously we won't still hold you liable if a space opens up the day before the event!)

- If you finished anywhere near the qualifying spaces - top 8 or so; maybe you will even get lucky below that - do please sign up and we'll let you know if a spot has become available. Priority for filling spaces will be given to those teams who have registered, NOT necessarily to the team who just missed out but who didn't fill the form becuse they thought they hadn't qualified...

* Specifically, for any group-of-mates teams that are hard to pin down, the main contact will be responsible!

The top 6 in Coventry and Redbridge, and the top 4 in Scotland and Swindon, qualified automatically. Note once again that those finishing just below those positions should fill the entry form to indicate their willingness to fill any vacant spots at the tournament.

As usual, we do not intend to provide accommodation at this Club tournament. Please do make sure you can manage the logistics before entering!

UKU Junior Women's Indoor Nationals 2015/16

Submitted by benheywood on Mon, 14/09/2015 - 9:29am
Event date:
14 Nov 2015 (All day)
Event details:

Junior Women's Indoor Nationals will be held on this date at the excellent three-pitch Arena Sports Kettering, meaning we can accommodate more teams this year. The event is expected to run from approx 10am-5pm on the Saturday only.

The Info pack for the weekend is now available from https://goo.gl/ns8k08, and the schedule on https://goo.gl/l45y8d.

Both can be downloaded as pdfs below for printing.

Entry into the tournament will cost £65 per team.  Payment will be made directly to UKU.  In order to secure a place in the tournament, please fill in the form here:

http://www.ukultimate.com/event_entry_form

Please note that the initial deadline for entries will be Thursday 22nd October. The deadline is relatively early (3 weeks from the tournament) in order that we can confirm who has a spot in plenty of time to organise your transport etc.

At this deadline, spaces in the tournament may be allocated to second and third teams. If you would like to enter more than one team, please read the details below before entering, and be aware that they may not all get in (and won't be confirmed until after 22nd October). With the larger 3-pitch tournament, we do hope to accommodate all the teams who wish to participate, but we can't guarantee it until after that date.

If you have a small number of players but not enough for a full team (or enough for 1 but not quite enough for 2), please get in touch because it's likely that others will be in the same position and we could combine players so that more girls get to take part. Of course. all combined team must be approved by UKU to prevent super-teams, so do please contact Junior coordinator Joe Wyatt on joewyatt7[at]gmail.com to discuss.

Eligibility:
As per the UKU Junior eligibility rules, to be eligible for this UKU under-20 division you must have been born on or after January 1st 1996.

Where possible teams should be made up of girls from a single club / school / organisation but where that is not possible, the first option should usually be to pick up for the most local team.  If you want to play for a team that is not your school team, please get in touch and we will do what we can to make sure that this is done fairly.

Multiple teams:
Places will initially be reserved for first teams. Any additional teams will be placed on a waiting list.  These teams will be given spaces if they are still available after the initial deadline, with priority going to second teams, then third teams if appropriate. For teams at the same level places will be distributed on a first come first served basis - i.e. second team spots go to the earliest second teams to enter, and third team spots to the earliest third teams to enter, but that does NOT mean that an early third team goes ahead of someone else's second team.

Other info:

Essential: Do not enter a team unless you have AT LEAST 7 fit players who are able to travel.

Advisable: Have at least one non-playing adult with the team, in case they need to accompany injured players to hospital or similar.

UKU Club Mixed Indoor Nationals 2015-16

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 11/09/2015 - 1:49pm
Event date:
5 Mar 2016 (All day) - 6 Mar 2016 (All day)
Event details:

UKU Club Mixed Indoor Nationals will be held on this date at the Alan Higgs Centre, Allard Way, Coventry, West Midlands CV3 1HW.

------------------------------------------

The Info pack can now be found here: https://goo.gl/9olL2l

The provisional schedule can be seen here: https://goo.gl/X5weYY

The schedule will be made final later this week, providing no major errors have been found.

Both are available as PDFs below, for printing.

The online version of the schedule will of course update throughout the weekend for those who wish to follow along with the tournament fromn afar!

------------------------------------------

There will be space for approx. 24 teams.

The tournament will be Indoor Mixed, requiring a 3/2 gender split at all times. Please make sure you have enough of each!

Games will run from around 9am-9pm on Saturday and from 9am-5pm on Sunday - we've booked very long hours on the Saturday to accommodate more teams for this event. Obviously we will schedule it so that any team plays only the early or later part of the day rather than a full 12 hours, but hopefully this will enable us to cope with demand for places.

Registration is now open through the UKU Entry Form. Your place is reserved only when you have both entered AND paid. Teams who are unsuccessful in entering will of course be refunded.

The closing date will be Friday 12th Feb 2016, early enough to give those teams who are successful time to plan their logistics. If spaces remain after that date, we will of course continue to accept entries on a first come first served basis providing that doing so does not adversely affect the schedule for other teams - but we will be able to confirm places for entered teams at that time.

We expect to have space for 24 teams. If the event is oversubscribed at the closing date, the method for determining entrants is below.

This venue has a (recently relaid!) 3G Rubbercrumb floor - you will need short moulded studs or the pimpled Astroturf boots.

We do not expect to provide accommodation at this tournament. Please get in touch if this is a major problem for you, but we are unlikely to be able to help you much beyond putting you in touch with local players who MAY be able to help.

For tournaments that are over-subscribed at the closing date the following rules will apply, in order

·         Teams not on the blacklist (for late dropouts at previous events) will get priority over those who are

·         Teams finishing in the top half of the same event in the previous year will be given priority.

·         First teams will NOT get priority over second teams - it is so easy to simply change the name of a 'second team' to avoid such a rule, which would disadvantage those 'proper' clubs who have a real identity.

·         Teams will be awarded spaces based on the order of DATE (not exact time) that payment was sent. This will be assumed to be the date payment was received unless there is additional information (e.g. screenshot of transfer, postmark on stamp etc.)

If there remain too many teams - which cannot be separated by the above - for the remaining places, a lottery will be run for ONLY those inseparable teams, for those places.

Entries are now open for this event.

The Info Pack and Schedule are now available. We have released the schedule early so that those teams who have either an early or a late start can use that info to plan their travel better - but of course this does mean that if we suffer any dropouts then the whole thing will become extremely messy. Don't be that team!

The schedule can be found here: https://goo.gl/bMHVZ7

You can also find the Info Pack here: https://goo.gl/q6v6ae

Both are available below as PDFs for printing.

Registration is though the UKU Entry Form. Your place is reserved only when you have both entered AND paid. Teams who are unsuccessful in entering will of course be refunded.

If spaces remain after that date, we will of course continue to accept entries on a first come first served basis providing that doing so does not adversely affect the schedule for other teams - but we will be able to confirm places for entered teams at that time.

We expect to have space for 20 teams. If we get a large number of entries, it may be possible to extend the saturday hours and run with 24 - no guarantees, and we certainly would not accept 21 or 23, for example, which would make for a messy schedule.

If the event were to be oversubscribed at the closing date, the method for determining entrants is below.

UKU Junior (U20) Open Indoor Nationals 2015-16

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 11/09/2015 - 1:40pm
Event date:
27 Feb 2016 - 00:00 - 28 Feb 2016 - 11:59
Event details:

The UKU Junior (U20) Open Indoor Championships 2015-16 will be held at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton (WV6 9NW). There are 4 good size halls and there is balcony space and a cafe/bar onsite, as well as supermarkets nearby.

Eligibility

There is no qualifying round, and no 'minimum standard' that your team must meet - there will certainly be teams of beginners participating. If you are a newly formed school team, you are very, very much invited!

As per the UKU Junior eligibility rules, to be eligible for this UKU under-20 division you must have been born on or after January 1st 1997.

Please contact Junior Coordinator Joe Wyatt (joewyatt7[at]gmail.com) if there are any queries.

If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team locally, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation to the Junior Forum (email to: joewyatt7[at]gmail.com is sufficient) and have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. It is NOT appropriate for teams to be formed from friends all over the country (e.g. GB players) without checking with the Junior coordinator. There have been a few issues in recent years with combinations of players/teams that have not been checked or verified appropriately; please be organised, up front, and go through the correct systems.

Please also note that eligibilty decisions are made by volunteers - we're keen to help out, but do make sure to get your requests in early to make that easier.

Accommodation

Hopefully the central location will mean that the majority of teams might be able to travel home rather than needing accommodation on the Saturday night, but for some of you that clearly won't be possible. Obviously you are free to organise your own plans, and places like www.travelodge.co.uk (and there are a number around the motorways or Wolverhampton!) often have good deals, and there are a smattering of Youth Hostels nearby (www.yha.org.uk).

If you are really struggling for accommodation, please get in touch on benji.heywood@ukultimate.com and we will do what we can to assist, but we do not intend to offer accommodation as part of the tournament.

Other info

Please note: Clubs are welcome to enter more than one team, but in the event that the tournament is oversubscribed clubs entering multiple teams may find lower-ranked teams placed on a waiting list. However, the tournament has a large capacity and this is relatively unlikely based on previous years' entries.

Essential: Do not enter a team unless you have AT LEAST 7 fit players who are able to travel.

Advisable: Have at least one non-playing adult with the team, in case they need to accompany injured players to hospital or similar.

Entry and payment

Entry is through the UKU Event Entry Form. You can select your preferred method of payment on the form.

We anticipate that we will have space for everyone who wishes to enter; however, it is just about possible that we will approach capacity and have to turn some teams away. The closing date for entries will therefore be Friday 5th February, at which point we will confirm entries for all the teams we can fit. There will probably still be spaces available after that, but your first team will no longer have priority over someone else's 7th team after that date.

UKU U17 & U14 Open Indoor Nationals 2015-16

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 11/09/2015 - 1:34pm
Event date:
23 Jan 2016 (All day) - 24 Jan 2016 (All day)
Event details:

The UKU Under-17 and Under-14 Open Indoor Championships 2014-15 will be held at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton (WV6 9NW) on the weekend of Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th January 2016.

The playing schedule and Info Pack can now be seen on these links:

Schedule: https://goo.gl/H3iHe6

Info Pack: https://goo.gl/k8NGRT

or as PDFs below for printing.

Note that the online schedule should update during the day for those following along at home.

UPDATE:

Due to the venue double-booking us (nothing we can do; they made an error) we are not able to access the sports hall for most of the weekend. We will still be hosting the event at Aldersley - not least because we are aware that many of you will have booked transport or accommodation already - but we will be in the Astrodome onsite rather than in the hall for the majority of the time.

The bad news:

The dome can realistically accommodate only 3 pitches. We also have access to the usual 4 pitches in the hall for an hour or so on the Saturday morning before the other booking comes in, but even so we will be significantly down on pitch-hours compared to last year. This is likely to mean starting earlier and/or finishing later (we won't finish late on Sunday of course), or a reduction in game lengths, or fewer games each, or possibly having room for fewer teams. The exact details of the compromises we need to make will depend on the entries we receive, but it is probably wise if you plan for an 0930 start this year.

(Obviously we will do our best to help those teams who need a late start, but for that first hour on Saturday we will have 7 pitches in use, meaning we need 28 teams to play in either the first or second game - late starts will be only for those who REALLY need it!)

The dome is a short walk away from the main building and does not have its own changing rooms or cafe etc - all the amenities are in the main building. There is a path connecting the two, and no roads to cross or anything like that, but of course it's still a hassle for the competitors to go back and forth. Depending on your circumstances, you may feel the need for additional responsible persons to supervise when some of your school are in the cafe and some are playing in the dome a short walk away. We can only apologise if the venue adjustment causes you difficulties - there really was no other option for us after the venue made the error.

The good news:

The really good news is that while negotiating this back-up option for this year, we have now got access to the dome, and have managed to reach agreement with the owners that we should be able to use it in future years too, alongside the main hall  - so this does secure our future at Aldersley as we expect to have access to SEVEN pitches and run very large events.

IMPORTANT

The floor of the dome is rubbercrumb turf. You will of course be fine with trainers, and there's no need for players to go out and purchase astroturf boots, but those who do have the (pimpled) astro boots or some firm-ground moulded football boots should bring them. Players should NOT wear either the longer, soft-ground studs, or any form of blades.

Be aware that these dome venues are often VERY COLD, and that your players will need warm clothes (for the short walk between the two sites, if nothing else!)

Eligibility

To be eligible for this UKU under-17 division you must be in Year 11 or below, born on or after 1st September 1999 (the rules for UK Domestic competition differ slightly to International competition).

To be eligible for the under-14 division you must be in Year 8 or below, born on or after 1st Sept 2002.

Please contact Joe Wyatt (joewyatt7[at]gmail.com) if there are any queries.

If you are a player or a small group of players without enough for a full team, then it may be possible to arrange for you to join up with another team; everyone involved in Junior Ultimate wants you there. HOWEVER you must explain your situation to the Junior Forum (email to: joewyatt7[at]gmail.com is sufficient) and have them ratify which is the most appropriate team for you to join with. Obviously you are free to organise your own plans, and places like www.travelodge.co.uk (and there are a number around the motorways or Wolverhampton!) often have good deals (e.g. family rooms which could sleep 4), and there are a smattering of Youth Hostels in Staffordshire (www.yha.org.uk).

There MAY be the potential for a bit of floorspace on the Saturday night at a local church hall if needed - please get in touch if desperate - but we won't organise this unless you ask us to, with plenty of notice. In previous years we have not provided accommodation at this event, so do let us know as soon as possible if you will need help.

The cost of the tournament is £85 per team. If you want to come YOU MUST FILL IN THE FORM FOUND AT THIS LINK

Payment details will be sent to you by email once you have filled in the form. If your school require an invoice in order to make the payment, please make this clear on the web entry form and provide any additional details that will be needed.

Please bear in mind that we may need to limit the number of teams per school. We are not setting a limit up-front, but will need to monitor the situation as entries come in.  You can help us with this by getting your entries done sooner rather than later.

Accordingly, the initial closing date for entries will be Monday 14th December. At this point, we'll award spots to some of those teams who have entered and hopefully enable them to make plans before the Christmas break. Of course, we understand that this is fairly soon, and we do intend to still accept entries after this on a first come, first served basis (and we'll try to leave a little space for more schools rather than let in someone's 11th team - though this may not be possible).

Accommodation: We expect to be able to provide some LIMITED accommodation locally. This may be in a scout hut or church hall (and hence not free!) or it may be on local players' floors. This is really only for those who cannot get accommodation any other way.

UKU/BUCS University Men's & Women's Indoor Nationals 2015-16

Submitted by benheywood on Fri, 11/09/2015 - 10:15am
Event date:
6 Feb 2016 (All day) - 7 Feb 2016 (All day)
Event details:

UKU/BUCS University Indoor Nationals for both Women and Men (Div 1 & 2) will all be held alongside each other in the fabulous and enormous Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell, near Glasgow.

The Info Pack can now be found here: https://goo.gl/s6DHK6

Please do read it carefully. and get in touch through the contact info provided therein if you have any further questions.

The Schedule - which we will endeavour to update as frequently as possible through the weekend, for those who cannot attend in person - can be found here: https://goo.gl/lrb8ZI

Both are available as PDFs below for printing.

It's a full size indoor 3G football pitch, 105x68m, giving us space for 6 full size pitches of approx 40x20m. There's also a balcony and cafe, and even some bleacher seating next to the pitch - it will be an amazing event to have it all happening at the same venue.

We aim to be finished by approx 3pm Sunday to get you on the road again, which means that Saturday will be quite a long day overall (9am-9pm), but we'll aim to schedule it so that no particular team is there the whole day.

There WILL be some floor-space available with the local University players or in scout huts etc, but this will of course be limited to those whose university will not support accommodation at a BUCS tournament - hopefully a good number of you will get that support for this event! Details have been posted on your regional Uni Ultimate Facebook group - you should make sure that representatives of your club are in that group as a great deal of information is posted there!

Entries are now open through BUCSscore - you MUST get your University AU staff to enter you, it is not possible for you to enter or for UKU to do it for you. Entries will close on the 7th JANUARY - that probably means you will need to enter a team before Christmas for many Universities.

http://www.bucs.org.uk/page.asp?section=15836&sectionTitle=Ultimate%20Indoor%20Championships%202015-16

(note that this link is to the BUCS info page only - to reiterate, you CANNOT enter except through your AU. Go see them right now!)

The closing date is early so that we're able to work out if there are any teams unable to attend, and we can then let the next few teams know they have a spot (before organising travel to Glasgow becomes impossible). Of course, if you have real trouble getting your AU organised, we will still accept later entries, but we will need you to email us and tell us very clearly that you WILL attend and WILL pay - what we can't have is people changing their mind late on, as that's not fair on any replacement teams.
