Lots of competitive ultimate action as a warm-up for the indoor season.  NOT a beginners tournament.  Full details are on the website.

How to register: 

CLICK HERE and complete the registration form on the website.  Registration will not be accepted by email, and you will just be asked to complete the form.  If you intend to bring a second team, ***you must register them separately***.  Priority will be given to first teams in the event of over-subscription.


The first 32 teams to complete the form will be emailed details on how to pay and secure their spot.  Priority will be given to first teams over second teams.


Accomodation and transport: 

Very limited accommodation is available on the floor of a scout hall.  There will be a £10 charge per team to cover the cost of using this hall, which must be paid when paying registration fees.

The Strange Blue/Cambridge Ultimate conglomerate are pleased to announce that we are hosting Midlands Uni Open Outdoor Regionals 2014.

The location and facilities are the same as last year's tournament (with hopefully better weather). We have 8 full-size pitches so shouldn't hit a limit on number of teams.

IMPORTANT: Entry is via BUCS. You should also fill out this form to provide us with some additional information, and to double check we have all the right team contacts. Your place is only confirmed once payment has been made to BUCS and they've accepted your entry. Contact your SU. The deadline for entry via BUCS is Feb 21, 2014.

NOTE: This year, unfortunately, the accommodation we can provide in Cambridge is extremely limited. All teams should therefore please try to organize their own accommodation. UKU/BUCS University Open and Women's Outdoor Nationals & Alumni Cup

This year's BUCS UKU University Outdoor Nationals will be held at the University of Manchester Sports Ground. We will host all four divisions; the University Open Divisions 1 & 2, the University Women's Division and the Alumni Cup!

Have you ever argued that your university team of 2010 was better than the 2005 team? Have you always wanted a re-match of a previous Student Nationals final? Well now is your chance! Gather together your mates and enter a team into the Alumni Cup.

Alumni cup will be an open division - obviously that means genuinely Open and not Men's; mixed teams are possible. To be eligible for an alumni team the player must have attended the institution for at least one year, on a more-than-part-time basis. The player does not need to have graduated from that institution. Universities may enter more than one team.

How to register: 

Open divisions 1 & 2: Qualification for both open divisions was via the regional qualifiers. BUCS will set the closing date for payment in these divisions, and all entries will be through them. You will need to speak to your Athletic Union in order to enter and pay through the BUCS system - you can't do it yourself. It will cost £140 per team.


Womens: There is no qualification for this division. Please click here now to register. The initial deadline for entries is Friday 4th April.

Maximum teams: There is intended to be no limit for this division. In the event that we suddenly get double what we had last year, SOME element of first come/first served may apply, so it is worth getting in early. Strong teams from last year will be protected as long as they enter before the closing date. Exact details of who gets in if oversubscribed will be published soon.

Cost = £140 per team


Alumni Cup: There is no qualification for this division. Please click here now to register. Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first served basis but are not confirmed until payment has been received. The initial deadline for entries is Friday 4th April.

Maximum teams = 16 teams. There is no scope to expand this - if you want a spot, enter quick!

Cost = £185 per team


Accomodation and transport: 


As in previous years teams will be expected, where at all possible, to organise their own accommodation. For those who are really struggling, Elly White ( will try to find you a floor to sleep on. Please contact her directly with your requests, as soon as possible. We DON'T expect to be able to provide any help for Alumni teams.

Transport to the Venue


Air: The venue is 6 miles from Manchester International Airport.

Rail: The venue is 9 miles from Manchester Piccadilly Station & 7 miles from Stockport Station.

Buses: The venue can be reached from the centre of Manchester on bus numbers 101, 104, 105 and 109. You need to get off at Princess Parkway/ Yew Tree Lane. It takes approx. 30 mins. Timetables can be found here:

Car/Minibus: There is limited parking at the venue so please do your best to car share as much as possible.

Taxi: Taxis from the airport and Manchester and Stockport stations should be approx. £15-20.


Driving Directions to the Venue


From the M60 Clockwise (North-East):

  1. Leave the M60 at Junction 4 onto the M56
  2. Leave the M56 at Junction 2 following signs for A560 Altrincham.
  3. At the roundabout take the second exit following signs for A560 Altrincham.
  4. At the next roundabout also take the second exit following signs for A560 Altrincham.
  5. At the next roundabout take the third exit signposted A5103 Manchester.
  6. Stay in the left hand lane to exit at the first junction signposted B5166 Sale Moor.
  7. At the end of the slip road turn left onto the B5167 Wythenshawe Road.
  8. Follow the final directions below...

From the M60 Anti-Clockwise (North-West):

  1. Leave the M60 at Junction 5
  2. Stay in the left hand lane so as soon as you join the A5103 you leave it again.
  3. At the traffic lights at the bottom of the slip road turn right onto the B5167
  4. Follow the final directions below...

From the M56 (South):

  1. Leave the M56 at Junction 3A onto the A5103 signposted Manchester.
  2. Take the second exit off the A5103 signposted B5166 Sale Moor.
  3. At the end of the slip road turn left onto the B5167 Wythenshawe Road.

Final Directions:

  1. After 100m the road forks. Take the right hand fork which becomes the B5166 Sale Road signposted Sale Moor.
  2. After a further 400m take the second right into Rackhouse Road.
  3. At the end of the road turn right onto Yewtree Lane.
  4. Take the first left onto Willenhall Road signposted University of Manchester Sports Ground.
  5. Follow Willenhall Road under the motorway and then take the first left.
  6. Follow this down to the venue; the car park is on the right hand side.
  7. Please do not park on the road as you may end up with a parking ticket!

Some SatNavs and Google Maps suggest you can access the venue direct from the M60 if you use the venue postcode which obviously you can’t!! So I suggest you use the postcode M23 0DT which is for Willenhall Road, Wythenshawe, Manchester. Once you get there, follow directions 5-7 above.

BUCS/SSS Scottish University Open Outdoor Regionals

Entry Process:  Entries need to be submitted via BUCScore.  Please speak to your Athletic Union as they will need to submit your entry on this system.  Please note, the BUCS Ultimate Outdoor Championships are listed under Team Entries on BUCScore, not as an Individual Competition.

Info:  Scottish University Outdoor Regionals return to the top-quality pitches at St Andrews. Accommodation and other details to be confirmed - keep an eye on the scotunicaptains egroup. We expect the schedule to run from 9am both days.

We also have the 3G pitch booked as a back-up for saturday, meaning we can at least run an 8-team format for first teams even if the weather makes other pitches unplayable.

UKU Uni Womens Indoor Nationals 2013-14

UKU University Women's Indoor Nationals is being held at Ellowes Hall in Wolverhampton.  The large hall has two courts and a hard-wood surface.  We do need teams to try to find accommodation if they can, but we have some church-hall space available - so do get in touch if you are really struggling.

The cost is £120 / team.

Note about BUCS-status of UKU University Women's Indoor Nationals

We have been in discussions with BUCS about sanctioning Women's Indoors for some time.  BUCS had a meeting in November 2013 that included a review of the situation.  They are not able to inform us of the outcome of that decision until the meeting minutes have been published to their members later this month. 

At BUCS' suggestion we ran the Regional Qualifiers according to the BUCS eligibility regulations because there was a small possibility of a positive decision to sanction this year's event.  BUCS has confirmed that the competition will NOT be sanctioned for 2013-14 due to the very short timescales involved.
