Unfortunately, the way that the University holidays, Easter weekend and exams all come together this year has made it particularly difficult to find the “ideal” date to hold this event on. As such, we have made the decision to go with the 13th/14th April taking into account the following:

  • The Nottingham venue is only available from the 13th/14th April onwards, meaning that we are unable to use the venue on the earlier “preferred” dates of 6th/7th April and 30th/31st March.
  • Easter falls on 20th/21st April this year. Generally we aim to avoid public holidays as this can make it particularly difficult for all teams to attend.
  • Later dates are known to be particularly bad for the Scottish universities, with at least 5 or 6 universities having exam periods that overlap or start on 27th/28th April this year, which makes attending the event especially difficult or impossible for them if held on that weekend.
  • Holiday periods vary quite widely this year - even across England - with some university holidays starting in March, and others starting on the 13th/14th April, or even as late as Easter weekend.
  • The feedback collected from the University President Facebook groups concluded that all teams competing at the same venue (Nottingham) on 13th/14th April was preferable to splitting up the competition across several venues on one of the earlier “preferred” dates (as above).
We will investigate splitting up the divisions at this competition in future as part of the review process with BUCS, but for 2019 at least, we felt it was best to keep everyone together as expected.

Taking the above points into account, combined with the fact that the Scottish universities have particularly suffered with the event being held on one of the later dates in the last few years, hopefully it is clear why we are going to go ahead with this date in 2019. Whilst we understand that this may not be the easiest date for some, we hope that the large amount of notice will enable teams to put the event in their calendar early so that plans can start to be made now.

To clarify, entries for the Men’s competitions are combined with the entry into the BUCS league, so if you do not think you will be able to attend the Nationals competition then we recommend that you speak to your AU as soon as possible. For the Women’s events, entries via your AU will be open after UWOR on Tuesday 5th March and will close on Thursday 21st March 2019. Only teams that have qualified will be eligible to enter.

The Alumni Cup will not be held in 2019, however we may look to reintroduce the event in a different format in the future.

Event date:

Info Pack: https://goo.gl/MrdmnS

Schedule: https://goo.gl/bqyjdQ

Entries are open from Tuesday 15th January until Thursday 31st January 2019.

Entries for the University Women's Outdoor Regionals tournaments will be open through BUCSscore for each of the events as stated above - you CANNOT enter through UKU. You must get the staff at your Athletic Union to enter through the official BUCS website. Please make sure that you enter on time and that you're entered into the correct region.

All Women's teams must enter in order to qualify for BUCS Outdoor Nationals. We expect to run both a Division 1 and a Division 2 at Nationals, so the large majority of teams should be able to attend, but you must attend regionals in order to be eligible for Nationals. Regionals is a required part of the BUCS season, and teams must qualify through it for the National event in April.

If any of the regional tournaments are oversubscribed, the team entry allocation procedure will be as described below (UKU/BUCS Entry Rules).

If you are interested in competing in the University Open Warm-Up events (including the SSS University Open Outdoor Championships), please complete the Entry Form HERE. The reason for this form is because unfortunately it's impossible to say how many teams we can accommodate in the Open events until we see the UWOR entry numbers. It doesn’t make sense for you to enter the using GoMembership website just yet.

Please make sure that you only complete the form if you can DEFINITELY field a team as once entries close we will confirm which out of the teams that entered via the form have been awarded a space. Once your team is confirmed for the event after the entry deadline, you WILL be liable to pay the full entry fee and the event will then be opened up on the GoMembership website for you to do so. If you have any questions, please email events@ukultimate.com.

Places for the University Open Warm-Up events will be awarded on a first come first served basis among all the first teams, then all the second teams, and so on, but make sure you that you complete the form HERE if you wish to be considered for a place at all.

UKU/BUCS Entry Rules

BUCS Regionals

The closing date and payment date will be as announced by BUCS. If places remain open after that date, they MAY be filled on a first-pay first-play basis. UKU/BUCS reserve the right to refuse a late entry if it will compromise the tournament for others – for example by adversely affecting the schedule – and to place the team on a waiting list instead.

For tournaments that are over-subscribed at the closing date the following rules will apply, in order:

·         First teams will get priority over second teams, and second over third etc.

·         If there is insufficient room for all first teams, places will be awarded in the following order:

o   First teams finishing in the top half of the previous year’s tournament

o   First teams who didn’t enter the previous year’s tournament

o   Remaining first teams in order of their finishing position last year

·         If there are spaces remaining after all first teams have been awarded a space, second teams will be offered places in an order based on finishing position last year, and then third teams and so on

o   Second teams with no finishing position from last year will have a lower priority than those who attended – but still above all third teams (and so on)

If the cut-off happens to fall between 2 or more teams with no finishing position from last year, a lottery will be run between those teams to determine entry.

Which region are we in?

Please note that your region is not necessarily related to where your Men's team plays in the outdoor leagues. We have 7 indoor regions (combined into 4 larger regions for Women's Indoors and Outdoors), which do not tally with the 5 outdoor Men's regions. Check carefully!

This list should now contain all the Unis - if your team is missing please do let us know and we'll update it!

UKU Club Open & Women's Indoor Nationals 2019

Submitted by megprice on Wed, 20/06/2018 - 4:00pm
Event date:
16 Feb 2019 (All day) - 17 Feb 2019 (All day)
Event details:

Club Open and Women's Indoor Nationals will be co-located at a huge indoor 3G rubbercrumb venue in Cranford, London on the weekend of 16th-17th February 2019.

All of the event information, including venue details, schedule and spirit links, can be found on the EVENT WEBSITE here: https://sites.google.com/ukultimate.com/cowin-2018-19/home

The confirmed team list for CWIN (as of 07/01/19 at 12pm) can be found here: https://www.ukultimate.com/newsletter_issue/club_womens_indoor_nationals_confirmed_team_list_070119

CWIN ENTRIES OPEN: 7th December - 4th January

COIN ENTRIES OPEN: 21st January -  28th January (entries for teams qualifying at ScCOIQ will be opened once that event has finished)

For the Open division, only teams that qualified through the Club Open Indoor Qualifier tournaments are eligible to enter, however, for the Women’s division the minimum number of spots available will be 20. If the Women’s division is oversubscribed at the time of the deadline, the following rules will apply, in order:

  • First teams will NOT get priority over second teams - it is so easy to simply change the name of a 'second team' to avoid such a rule, which would disadvantage those 'proper' clubs who have a real identity.
  • Teams not on the blacklist (for late dropouts at previous events) will get priority over those who are
  • Teams from UKU-Affiliated clubs will be given priority over those who aren't
  • Teams finishing in the top half of the same event in the previous year will be given priority.
  • To fill any remaining spaces at the tournament, the remaining teams who have not already been awarded a place will be selected by random draw.

Places MAY still be available later on a first-come first-served basis if the tournament is under-subscribed, and if the additional team(s) would not adversely affect the schedule, but no team - no matter how strong - would be guaranteed entry; if the tournament is full then the team(s) will be placed on a wait list to be awarded a space should one become available due to a drop out. Although please note that late entries may be charged an additional £30 fine.

Once the entry deadline has passed, the list of confirmed teams will be published on the UKU website and sent out as one of our Event Newsletters. Please do not expect an individual confirmation email - you need to keep an eye out for the announcement! However, if it’s after the deadline and you’re unsure whether your team has made it and/or you can’t find the information on the above, please email events@ukultimate.com and we will be able to confirm whether or not you have been awarded a space.

If any teams pull out following the specified entry deadline a penalty will occur:

  • Teams that drop out after the entry deadline date will be liable for 50% of the fees.
  • Teams that drop out in the fortnight prior to the tournament will be liable for the full team fee and will not be refunded.

If you have any questions, please email events@ukultimate.com.

Beach Nationals will be held on Sandbanks beach on the 8th and 9th of September 2018 hosted by Bournemouth University and Sunburn Beach Tournament committee.

***Beach Nationals 2018 is now open for registration***

The planned format is a three division, 8-team tournament for Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed. However, if there are insufficient entries for a particular division then it may not go ahead, and other divisions expanded according to demand (eg. two 12-team tournaments). This decision will be made once the closing date has passed. Please note that accommodation is not available for this tournament, so consider this in your planning when arranging a team. A list of nearby hotels and campsites will be sent to entrants.

Entry is made by emailing sunburn.bournemouth@outlook.com with the following information:

- Team name

- Contact Name

- Contact Email and Phone

- Secondary Contact

- Additional relevant information (previous beach tournaments entered, finishing position, player details)

The deadline for submitting a team is Monday 7th August. After this date, if over-subscribed, the entry rules will be applied to teams as outlined below. Selected teams will be required to make payment of £160, which will be detailed in their confirmation email.

For tournaments that are over-subscribed at the closing date the following rules will apply, in order:

- First teams from clubs who have completed Club Affiliation to the UKU will have priority over those who have not

- Teams from clubs not on the blacklist (for late dropouts at previous UKU events) will get priority over those who are

- Teams finishing in the top 1/3 of places in any 2018 beach tournament will get priority over other teams*

If there remain too many teams - which cannot be separated by the above
- for the remaining places, a lottery will be run for ONLY those inseparable teams, for those places.

Second (and lower) teams will only be considered if there are spaces after the closing date, and will be allocated spots according to date of payment.

*We're obviously not able to check that your roster is sufficiently related to the roster for that previous tournament under the same name - but please do apply some SotG to that.
