[Coach Forum] Discussing horizontal offences with James Burbidge

Submitted by Si Hill on Wed, 08/04/2020 - 1:27pm
Event date:
18 May 2020 - 19:30 - 20:30
Event details:

In May we’ll be repeating some of our weekly Coach Forums because the April dates were really popular.

These are informal discussion groups led by Ultimate folk who've spent some time thinking about specific areas of the sport and are happy to share their ideas. Please come ready to get involved in discussion, ask questions and learn from each other.

Horizontal or spread offences offer a wealth of opportunities. James will talk about some of the different options he’s experimented with. The discussion will focus on how different set-ups utilise space and create options for disc movement. This should be an interesting discussion for any coach, leader or player across all divisions!

This forum is free for all, however priority tickets will be offered to UKU Members. If you are not a UKU member and there are still tickets available, you can sign up 2-3 days before the event.

Ever wanted a better understanding of what gender equity could mean in action?

This discussion, hosted by Jo Hamer, will focus on actions coaches, captains and leaders might want to consider to support gender equity in Ultimate. This will reflect and build on some of the gender equity work Jo has been involved with at Deep Space which includes considering what language we use, how we play on the pitch, and the underlying assumptions that impact the way we act. The focus of the discussion will be concrete actions - how can we usefully recognise the different gendered experiences and help all athletes achieve their potential?

Jo will talk through each of the Gender Equity skills sessions that Deep Space has run, including the theory behind them, the content of the sessions, and the feedback from participants. She’s open about the fact that she has more questions than answers, but this should make for a really interesting and fruitful discussion.

This forum is free for all, however priority tickets will be offered to UKU Members. If you are not a UKU member and there are still tickets available, you can sign up 2-3 days before the event.

This April we’re running weekly Coach Forums. These are informal discussion groups led by Ultimate folk who've spent some time thinking about specific areas of the sport and are happy to share their ideas. Please come ready to get involved in discussion, ask questions and learn from each other.

Have you ever wondered why we do the things the way we do? This discussion will look at two different learning models, behavioural and constructivist, thinking about how coaches can help players develop and learn in different ways.

Tommy is currently completing his masters thesis investigating coach education and injury prevention. He has spent some time thinking about these different approaches and how they might apply to Ultimate.

This forum is free for all, however priority tickets will be offered to UKU Members. If you are not a UKU member and there are still tickets available, you can sign up 2-3 days before the event.
