Event date:
22 Mar 2012 - 10:00
Event details:

UK Ultimate is involved in a project called The Matalan Sporting Promise. The yoUR Activity element of this school sports initiative aims is to introduce alternative sports, like Ultimate, to secondary schools across the U.K. In The Daily Mirror (March 1st) the Promise has a four page central insert with details about the motivations behind the project, the Youth Sport Trust and Sir Steve's involvement as the ambassador.

Ultimate is mentioned for our involvement with yoUR Activity, including a nice shot of one of the young players throwing a disc.

The 4th page of the article announces the offical launch of the project at Trafalgar Square on March 22nd! If players from London find themselves with a free day, why not come along and see Sir Steve Redgrave in the flesh, hopefully showing off his newly aquired skills with a disc!

at the John Spence Community High in Tyneside

UK Ultimate will be in attendance with a few short demonstration of Ultimate being coached to a groups of young people from a local school, along with a number of other sports involved with the Promise, the first being at 10:00.

The event is a public showcase so please fell free to come along and see what it's all about! There will be speeches from the ambassador of the Promise Sir Steve Redgrave as well as others suchs as Baroness Sue Campbell (Chair of UK Sport), John Steele (CEO of the Youth Sport Trust) and Darren Blackhurst (CEO of Matalan). The speachs are likely to be at 10:30.

Trop Hat

Submitted by louise_dvy on Thu, 07/05/2009 - 3:48pm
Event date:
21 Jun 2009 - 09:00 - 17:00
Event details:

We are pleased to announce “Trop Hat”, a one day fundraising hat tournament taking place on Tooting Common on Sunday 21st June.

For anyone who’s not sure what a hat tournament is, you enter the tournament as an individual and the teams get drawn out of a hat depending on experience level. You get the opportunity to play with a whole new bunch of players of all abilities.

The profits from the tournament will go towards a nutrition intervention based in Zambia organised by the TROPical Gastroenterology And Nutrition Group (TROPGAN Group). I will be volunteering with the project for two months by helping to set up and run an intervention which will screen for HIV and malnutrition in children in a small community in Lusaka, Zambia. The money will help me to volunteer without using the tight resources of TROPGAN.

Where- Tooting Common
When- 9am - 5pm Sunday 21st June (with a pre tournament party on Saturday 20th)
Price- £10
What do you get for your money? A summers day of Ultimate, entry to the tournament party, a team t-shirt and a warm, fuzzy feeling knowing that you're helping children affected by HIV in Zambia.
