Competition Committee Election

In early 2013, as part of an ongoing review of the governance structure of UK Ultimate, the Board updated the Terms of Reference for this committee, with a view to having elections for the updated committee before end of the 2013.  Please see Competition Committee pages for more details.

GB at the Beach - ECBU 2013

The European Championships of Beach Ultimate took place in Calafell, Spain in late June, with GB represented in all seven divisions. It was a mixed bag of results, given GB’s current high standards in the grass form of the game, with the only Gold medal brought home by the Open Masters Team. The Open, Mixed Masters and Women’s Masters teams all came in second best, with a token Bronze for the Grand Masters. GB Women just missed out in 4th place, but still managed to play a key role in most of the Finals. GB Mixed finished 7th in what was probably the most competitive Division.

Sir Steve Redgrave continues to support Ultimate

Sir Steve Redgrave has been busy promoting the Matalan Sporting Promise again this summer!

He spent a few hours playing Ultimate at Holden Lane High School, helping to promote the MSP Community Club that UK Ultimate has set up there. This part of the project is about setting up places for people to play Ultimate, or one of the other sports involved in the project. The five times olympic champion showed his continued support for Ultimate by posing with Dave Long from Sport England, both sporting a frisbee!

Airbadgers retain Junior Outdoors; Flux win first ever UKU-Schools

UKU Junior Outdoor Nationals and Schools Championships took place on the weekend of 6-7 July 2013 at The Pavilion, Moor Lane, Birmingham.  Playing in glorious sunshine all weekend, Junior Outdoor Nationals saw the final between Airbadgers 1 and Arctic 1 get off to a very close start - with Arctic getting the best of the early exchanges.  However - the Exeter team's winning habit gradually began take effect, and the Airbadgers moved away with a long run of consecutive points. Congratulations also should go to Rice Frisbees for winning Spirit of the Game, with prizes sponsored by Lookfly.

On Sat 6th we hosted the first ever UKU-School Championships.  This is a new competition, based on a 5-a-side format of the game that is designed to enable schools to play simple "qualifiers" against other neighbouring schools throughout the year: indoors, on grass - or even on the beach!  Parrs Wood High School of Manchester attended their first ever tournament - even managing to take a win in their first-ever competitive game of Ultimate.  "Flux" from Twycross House School (Leicestershire) and Manor CE Academy (York) - both experienced ultimate-playing schools - contested a close final.  Flux clinched the title and also won Spirit of the Game.
