UKU Event Announcements

This newsletter is intended to provide a simple stream of information about UKU events. At the point of launch, the intention is that this will provide a definitive source of the most important information relating to UKU events: - dates - registration processes - news updates in the weeks preceding an event (e.g. schedule released, etc)

University Outdoor Dates & Venues 2018-19 - Update

Following the announcement on Friday about the details of the University Outdoor events this year, we received a query on the South West Facebook group about why the decision was made to hold UXON in St Andrews in 2018-19 with a smaller “Division 2” event in the South of England. We felt that it would be useful to address the issues raised in this query, to explain why the tournament is not in a more ‘central’ location* or even in the South, in a way that is accessible for all of the regions.

University Outdoor Dates & Venues 2018-19

Following discussions with the University Committee, we can now confirm the dates and venues for University Women’s Outdoor Regionals (UWOR), University Men’s & Women’s Outdoor Nationals (UMWON), and University Mixed Outdoor Nationals (UXON).

COIQ & ScCWIN Entries Open & Updated COWIN Bids

UPDATED COWIN BIDS

It has been decided that due to the number of teams that continue to decline their Club Open Indoor Nationals spot after finishing in a qualifying position at one of the Club Open Indoor Qualifier events, the total number of COIN bids that will be awarded in the Open division will be reduced to 16.

This also means that the minimum number of spots available for teams at Club Women's Indoor Nationals will be set to 20.

Changes to Reporting and Tracking Spirit Scores at University Competitions

Following discussions between the UKU Spirit of the Game Committee and the UKU University Committee we have decided to make some changes to reporting Spirit and how we follow up on Spirit results particularly looking at the university BUCS league.

Both committees felt we should be putting more emphasis on Spirit at the university level especially the BUCS league where previously there has not been the emphasis on the recording of spirit scores which we see at university regional and national events. Therefore we have decided to make the following changes

Competition Structure Review - Update

Thank you to everyone who attended the competition structure review discussion sessions at UKU Nationals 2018. We have put together all of the information collected during these sessions for those that weren’t able to attend, and it can now all be accessed via the following link if you wish to read through it: https://goo.gl/tGmv5n

To move forward with the discussion though, we have created a document that lays out the themes we’ve found within the feedback so far, as well as outlining the main questions that we think need to be answered to enable us to find the right competition structure.

If you missed the previous announcements, here is the link to the original announcement for the review, including the presentation explaining why we’re doing it, and all of the responses from the initial Competition Structure Review survey can be found here.

Competition Structure Review - All Survey Responses Now Published

Thank you to everyone that completed the Competition Structure Review Survey. We received 297 submissions which is great!

If you wish to read the final results of the survey, please check out the full results here: https://goo.gl/L6Hryq

Please note that some details in a couple of the comment responses have been redacted as they included personal information (highlighted in red).

We understand that there has been some criticism regarding the survey, in particular the way some questions have been phrased, and we appreciate your feedback and have taken it on board. However, to clarify, we will not be taking the results of this survey at face value - we actually really want you to engage with us even further!

Huge congratulations to Nice Bristols for winning the Women's division after a great game against Iceni in the final, to Black Eagles for coming top in the Mixed division, and also to Clapham for finishing 1st at UKU Nationals for another year! Given that this event was also the qualifier for EUCF, a massive well done also goes to Chevron Action Flash, Reading Open and PELT for qualifying for the Open division, and to Iceni and Rebel for taking the other qualifying spots in the Women's and Mixed divisions respectively.
