Dr Kenny Duffy appointed UKU medical adviser

Dr Kenny Duffy at WFDF WJUC 2018We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Dr Kenny Duffy as UK Ultimate medical adviser.  This is a voluntary role.  Kenny has been working with UKU, and especially the GB squads for several years.  He is actively supporting our response to Covid-19, and in the last year delivered a coach forum on FIFA 11+, and helped us to complete and publish UKU Pregnancy Guidance and Concussion Information.

Kenny qualified as a physiotherapist in 2006 from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, went on to study medicine at University of Dundee, and completed his GP training in 2020. He initially worked within the NHS and private sectors as well as sports settings. He gained experience working with Scottish and British gymnastics and the Scottish football association working with junior national teams. 

Kenny decided to study medicine and attended University of Dundee. While at the university he represented them at Trampoline, Swimming and Triathlon. Kenny continued to work as a physiotherapist while studying. He set up and lead the university physiotherapy service and worked with numerous NHS trusts. With regard to elite sport Kenny continued to work with Scottish and British Gymnastics at national and international events. Furthermore he volunteered at the Olympics London 2012 and commonwealth games Glasgow 2014. His career lead to working regularly with national junior and senior gymnastic teams at world cups and world championships.  He attended the first European Games in Baku 2015 as member of the international medical team for the event and was the lead physiotherapist for the gymnastics test event.

After graduating medical school Kenny moved to Edinburgh for foundation training and continued to work in sport as a physiotherapist and doctor at world championships - gymnastics Glasgow 2015.

His first experience of Ultimate was university of Dundee players at the sports injury clinic but he worked with the men's master team at London 2016 WUGC where the team won bronze. He gave support to UKU at world beach championships in 2017 and then WU24 in Perth, Australia 2018, WUCC with Clapham in Cincinnati, USA and WJUC in Waterloo, Canada both 2018. While supporting Ultimate, Kenny also provided medical cover at world indoor athletics championships in Birmingham 2018 and at national indoor and outdoor athletic championships.

Most recently Kenny has lead the UKU medical team at European Beach and European Youth Ultimate Championships in 2019 in Portugal and Poland respectively as both physiotherapist and doctor.

In 2020 Kenny completed his GP training and works as a salaried GP in Edinburgh. He is also working with cyclists in a physiotherapy clinic established at Edinburgh Bike Fitting. He continues to work and offer medical support to Ultimate, Gymnastics, Rugby and Athletics.
