Statement re GB Open discussion on Britdisc

The UKU GB Oversight Committee notes the recent discussion on Britdisc relating to the plans for GB Open 2015-16.  As noted in our original announcement we did expect people to have concerns about the potential impact of this approach.  UKU did receive multiple bids for the GB Open position, and a great deal of time and effort was spent on considering the pros and cons of the competing applications.  The committee appointed the applicants that they felt had the strongest plan.  It was and will remain a pre-requisite that any application to run a GB Ultimate team could not be "at any cost" to the wider development of Ultimate in the UK.

The additional information provided alongside the GB Open application form does make it clear that the management team expect some players will not be able to attend all training sessions and that they will be able to make provisions to support those players.
